We stayed at Vila Chaumieres for 2 weeks over Christmas but have only now had the chance to write our review. We can't say enough about Vila Chaumieres. It was wonderful, quite intimate and set in beautiful gardens right on the lagoon. We stayed in the lagoon view room that was comfortable and very clean with everything we needed. Many afternoons were spent on the balcony relaxing and enjoying the view.

The restaurant is also excellent (make sure you book). Breakfasts over the lagoon watching the fish and starfish was a treat. Breakfast was included with lovely fresh fruit and croissants and the staff were all friendly. Ursula and Richard were amazing hosts who couldn't do enough for you. We felt we had known them for a long time.

Thanks Ursula and Richard for a wonderful holiday, we will be back at Easter!

My partner and I have just returned from a trip to Vanuatu and spent our days in Port Vila at the Vila Chaumieres. It exceeded expectation, even after reading the good reviews. The owners Richard and Ursula were extremely friendly and did anything to make our stay as pleasant as possible. The garden bungalows were big and spacious and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The restaurant was all its talked up to be, make sure you book, but in saying that it is still very intimate and the breakfast included was amazingly delicious fruits and croissants! Really fantastic overall.
Will be coming back as well as recommending it to anyone going there!

A local friend introduced us the the restaurant. 3 of us had dinner here. You sit on the lagoon ... Very secluded place, on the water, marine life under you... Quite spectacular . We had the beef Wellington and it was PERFECT! our friend had some fish and also it was great. Service good and price as expected in Vanuatu when you want to eat nice meals in a nice location. Worth the money and the experience. We got to meet the friendly owners and their cat. That was a bonus on our way out. Definitely a place to visit if you are in Vila.

We stayed at Villa Chaumieres for three nights and had a relaxing and enjoyable time. Nothing was a problem for Ursula and Richard, who were always close at hand to ensure our stay was going to plan and we were being looked after. Our garden villa was tidy and cool, although we appreciated having the air conditioning on the warmer evenings. The swimming pool was a favorite spot for us, when not in the pool itself, we lounged in the recliner chairs reading and snoozing.

The restaurant is the true highlight though, situated along the lagoons edge, the setting is magical and we watched beautiful skies, fish and other marine life play in the water, and life drift past us as we ate fantastic food. The seafood was a specialty, and we would thoroughly recommend the fishermans feast, a selection of mouth watering fish, shell fish, lobster and crab - shared between two. The steak was also outstanding.

The location is good for exploring, it's a very easy trip to town on the local "B" number plated mini vans. At 150 Vatu, it's very cheap and it can be a good way to see Vila as you weave in and out of side streets dropping people off. There are a couple of good supermarkets close by, both stock a useful (and interesting) range of products.

We made use of the complimentary kayaks and explored the surprisingly large lagoon. While I didn't swim in the lagoon myself, it would be quite possible and the water quality looked quite ok.

Although not on one the beaches and a little way out of town, this small resort has charm and is well worth the visit. It sits on a very pretty lagoon where while having breakfast you can watch the locals fish and paddle around in canoes. Service and food is excellent, everything happens with a smile and the owners are on hand to make sure everything is just so. Everything is clean and well kept; we would happily stay there again. Not suitable for children.

Room Tip: One bure is by the pool, it felt as if we had our own private lap pool.

We stayed here for 10 days and it was so lovely. Our room was above the restaurant and facing the lagoon. We witnessed the most spectacular sunsets from there. Another bonus was that it was for adults only, so no screaming children.
The owners from Australia were so helpful and friendly and their staff were the same. They couldn't do enough for us.
Breakfast in the restaurant sitting over the water and watching fish swimming around was so pleasant. Dinner in the evening was delicious and also wonderful. Food was exceptional and the ambience was perfect.
I hope this place never changes. It's perfect just the way it is.

Room Tip: Stay above the restaurant facing the lagoon. Can't remember the room no. but it is on the Port V...

Vila Chaumieres is located about 4 kilometres outside the town of Port Vila, idyllically set on the stretch of water between the main and second lagoons. It is so peaceful and calm, you totally relax as soon as you walk into your room, we stayed in Room 5 which has by far the best views out over the water. The peace and calm is sometimes broken late in the afternoon, by the sound of local children playing in the water, but it is not intrusive, the sound of laughter is a pleasure to hear and is not punctuated with bad language as is so often heard here in Australia. Our hosts Ursula and Richard could just not do enough for us, they are the ultimate hosts, always there, but never intrusive, always open for a chat and to suggest places of interest to visit. We had a problem with the water heater, so we had no hot water on the third day of our seven day visit; which just happened to be a Sunday, this was not problem to Richard who organised to get a contractor in straight away, and we were also offered the opportunity to shower in an unoccupied room whilst the problem was rectified, we had hot water again the next morning. The restaurant at Vila Chaumieres is superb to say the least; the menu has plenty of quality choices and caters to all tastes. The food prices are very comparable to Australian prices and I considered the meals excellent value for money. The local beef eye fillet is exceptional at about $32.00, it was cooked to perfection and as ordered, the vegetable accompaniment was also superbly cooked; I have not had vegetables so perfectly cooked in a restaurant in a long time. We ate at the restaurant every night of our seven night stay as it was such a pleasure to dine there, the staff are excellent, attentive, yet not intrusive. If you do eat at the restaurant, a must have is the “seafood feast”, it’s enough for two people and is just divine, the seafood is just so fresh and tasty and very well presented.

Overall Vila Chaumieres is the perfect getaway location, it’s not too far out of town and a ride on a local bus at Vat150 per person is the ideal way to travel, don’t be scared it’s a great experience. I would highly recommend Vila Chaumieres to anyone; we will be back for another visit in 2013. Thanks very much for a wonderful experience Ursula and Richard..........

Room Tip: Room 5 is the room to be in, overlooking the water from your own first floor deck...
