“Relaxing and Excellent value”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

We stayed at Villa Chaumieres for three nights and had a relaxing and enjoyable time. Nothing was a problem for Ursula and Richard, who were always close at hand to ensure our stay was going to plan and we were being looked after. Our garden villa was tidy and cool, although we appreciated having the air conditioning on the warmer evenings. The swimming pool was a favorite spot for us, when not in the pool itself, we lounged in the recliner chairs reading and snoozing.

The restaurant is the true highlight though, situated along the lagoons edge, the setting is magical and we watched beautiful skies, fish and other marine life play in the water, and life drift past us as we ate fantastic food. The seafood was a specialty, and we would thoroughly recommend the fishermans feast, a selection of mouth watering fish, shell fish, lobster and crab - shared between two. The steak was also outstanding.

The location is good for exploring, it's a very easy trip to town on the local "B" number plated mini vans. At 150 Vatu, it's very cheap and it can be a good way to see Vila as you weave in and out of side streets dropping people off. There are a couple of good supermarkets close by, both stock a useful (and interesting) range of products.

We made use of the complimentary kayaks and explored the surprisingly large lagoon. While I didn't swim in the lagoon myself, it would be quite possible and the water quality looked quite ok.

Although not on one the beaches and a little way out of town, this small resort has charm and is well worth the visit. It sits on a very pretty lagoon where while having breakfast you can watch the locals fish and paddle around in canoes. Service and food is excellent, everything happens with a smile and the owners are on hand to make sure everything is just so. Everything is clean and well kept; we would happily stay there again. Not suitable for children.

Room Tip: One bure is by the pool, it felt as if we had our own private lap pool.

We stayed here for 10 days and it was so lovely. Our room was above the restaurant and facing the lagoon. We witnessed the most spectacular sunsets from there. Another bonus was that it was for adults only, so no screaming children.
The owners from Australia were so helpful and friendly and their staff were the same. They couldn't do enough for us.
Breakfast in the restaurant sitting over the water and watching fish swimming around was so pleasant. Dinner in the evening was delicious and also wonderful. Food was exceptional and the ambience was perfect.
I hope this place never changes. It's perfect just the way it is.

Room Tip: Stay above the restaurant facing the lagoon. Can't remember the room no. but it is on the Port V...

Vila Chaumieres is located about 4 kilometres outside the town of Port Vila, idyllically set on the stretch of water between the main and second lagoons. It is so peaceful and calm, you totally relax as soon as you walk into your room, we stayed in Room 5 which has by far the best views out over the water. The peace and calm is sometimes broken late in the afternoon, by the sound of local children playing in the water, but it is not intrusive, the sound of laughter is a pleasure to hear and is not punctuated with bad language as is so often heard here in Australia. Our hosts Ursula and Richard could just not do enough for us, they are the ultimate hosts, always there, but never intrusive, always open for a chat and to suggest places of interest to visit. We had a problem with the water heater, so we had no hot water on the third day of our seven day visit; which just happened to be a Sunday, this was not problem to Richard who organised to get a contractor in straight away, and we were also offered the opportunity to shower in an unoccupied room whilst the problem was rectified, we had hot water again the next morning. The restaurant at Vila Chaumieres is superb to say the least; the menu has plenty of quality choices and caters to all tastes. The food prices are very comparable to Australian prices and I considered the meals excellent value for money. The local beef eye fillet is exceptional at about $32.00, it was cooked to perfection and as ordered, the vegetable accompaniment was also superbly cooked; I have not had vegetables so perfectly cooked in a restaurant in a long time. We ate at the restaurant every night of our seven night stay as it was such a pleasure to dine there, the staff are excellent, attentive, yet not intrusive. If you do eat at the restaurant, a must have is the “seafood feast”, it’s enough for two people and is just divine, the seafood is just so fresh and tasty and very well presented.

Overall Vila Chaumieres is the perfect getaway location, it’s not too far out of town and a ride on a local bus at Vat150 per person is the ideal way to travel, don’t be scared it’s a great experience. I would highly recommend Vila Chaumieres to anyone; we will be back for another visit in 2013. Thanks very much for a wonderful experience Ursula and Richard..........

Room Tip: Room 5 is the room to be in, overlooking the water from your own first floor deck...

We have just spend a wonderful week there, Richard & Ursula are superb hosts so welcoming & helpful, the staff are just delightful quiet & unobtrusive but always there when needed. The beauty of this boutique hotel is that it caters for Adults so no children and that they only have 3 bungalows & 2 apartments. The complex is set in a lush tropical garden and has a small swimming pool as well. Breakfast is quite refreshing with fruit platter, hot sweet roll, toast & coffee, it is great to sit & feed the fish brekkie crumbs. The meals are very well presented and delicious, (you must try the Coconut Crab, took my husband 40mins to eat) though the meals were a little pricey. We highly recommend staying here as it is close to Port Vila, just flag a bus at the gate to wherever you want to go..

Room Tip: Bungalow 4 is right next to the pool very handy for a morning dip.

The best room is number 5 which is the lagoon view room on top of reception. We stayed in number 6 which is the room next door with view of lagoon but not as panoramic as room 5 but still a good view. The owners were away and unfortunately the wifi played up during our stay despite the site manager doing her best to fix it. Made it a bit inconvenient as we were relying on trip advisor to plan our days. The breakfast was great and the fruit varied everyday. The hot breakfasts were great especially the omelette. The pool was a great refresher after being out for the day. The restaurant is picturesque and we enjoyed one meal there. We like to try somewhere different every night. The only problem I had with the room was the pillow, it was hard and flat. I missed my soft latex pillow. Could probably write more but have to go. If something else comes to mind will write another review.

Room Tip: Room 5 for view

Lovely property outside Port Vila with just a few bungalows and an excellent restaurant. The hosts Richard and Ursula are really helpful and will give you all kinds of suggestions to get the most from your stay in the island. The bungalows are located amid a lush tropical garden and are quiet and private. Do not expect luxury here, there is no tv or phone but the room is comfortable, clean and peaceful. We took the garden bungalow because we liked the privacy that they offer. The food at the restaurant was delicious so do not leave without having a romantic dinner by the lagoon, reservations may be required depending on the night.
The hotel is located a few kilometers away from town but within a short ride with one of the frequent minibuses that you will see in all the roads of the island. Just stop one of them anywhere you want and let the driver know where you are going, that´s all you need. Taxis are expensive and not worthy.
