Mangoes is a lovely resort, it's not too far from the local town (about 5min walk if that!) it has beautiful rooms with high ceilings and easy pool access, the breakfast was delicious, however the best part of Mangoes had to be the staff, I met and spoke with Richard daily, he is very sweet and kind and helpful, he really made the resort in my view :) I would (and have) recommended this resort to a number of friends.

We had the pleasure of staying at Mangoes for 7 nights and found it quiet, peaceful & relaxing, as well as being close to Port Vila. It was only a 15 minutes walk mostly down hill into town. The food is great and the huts are good. Shall hopefully see you next year.

We have just returned from a very relaxing holiday at Mangoes Resort, with 3 couples all staying in side-by-side Lagoon View/Pool Rooms, and we had a great time. The views are beautiful, the locals are all so very friendly and resort staff were always cheerful and happy to oblige. The food at Mangoes' restaurant could not be faulted but you do have to get used to the concept of 'island time' which applies to everything in this island paradise. Don't be in a rush and don't expect everything to arrive in the blink of an eye. Just relax, chill out & enjoy the vibe....after all you are on holidays. The Resort was our haven to relax in after enjoying all the sightseeing & fun activities on offer around the island. Nice to sit and enjoy a drink (cocktails or Tuskers) around our private pool area and say hello to the locals walking down to the lagoon. You can have a joke & a bit of fun with the restaurant & bar staff who were all a credit to the Resort and went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves.
I look forward to returning some day soon.

Stayed recently at Mangoes and absolutely loved it, we were looking for a quiet location near town and this was perfect for that. The bungalows themselves are well set-up and comfortable, the gardens are very well maintained and give a good tropical feel. The meals were very good and the staff extremely friendly and helpful.
This is not a full resort as such, but has excellent pools and is quiet and child free, perfect for couples. If you just want to lie around the beach and swim then this probably isn't the right place, but as a base to unwind and still explore Port Vila and Vanuatu it is ideal.
The location was the best thing about Mangoes. It was on the edge of town but still fairly quite. The outlook over the lagoon is fantastic and I would recommend getting a lagoon view room, each of which has an outdoor terrace area looking out that way. There is a walking track behind Mangoes so you do get locals wandering past a little bit but they are all friendly and always wave and smile.
We walked into Port Vila quite regularly for meals etc, and it only took 10-15min each way. It can be little tricky at night as the street lighting is pretty poor throughout Port Vila so it may pay to pack a torch. Or if not walking a bus trip is only 150 vatu and gets you there in under 5 minutes.
The only issues we had were housekeeping kept wanting to start around 8am, so if sleeping in make sure to put the do not disturb sign out.
It's not really accesible to the lagoon either, something I never managed to determine untill we got there, but for us that wasn't a priority anyway and the views over the lagoon were superb.

Mangoes Resort is the perfect place to do nothing. My partner and I were looking for a very low-key holiday and we made an excellent decision by staying at Mangoes in a Garden View Pool Apartment.

It is approximately a 10 minute walk into the town which has a selection of duty free shops, supermarkets and restaurants, but we spent most of our time at the resort enjoying the excellent service on hand. The restaurant is absolutely outstanding. Every meal we had was delicious and highly enjoyable thanks to the wonderful interactions with the wait staff. But be warned, everything happens on "island time" at Mangoes, so we could wait 45 minutes for toast in the morning! Not an issue for us given that we would go from breakfast straight to reading on the loungers but for those looking for a quick meal, you might want to give the staff a heads up.

Our accommodation was excellent, featuring a living room, small self-contained kitchen, nice-sized bathroom, expansive king-sized bedroom and our own private plunge pool and loungers. Our room was cleaned almost every day with fresh flowers and towels provided. We also took advantage of the in-room massage which was fantastic.

I have a couple of very small criticisms, which in no way impacted our glorious stay at Mangoes, but could perhaps be looked at in the future. There are only 4 TV channels in Vanuatu, and the selection is limited to a local channel and a mix of Australian TV. The fact that our room didn't have a DVD player was a bit disappointing, especially due to the fact that we had a couple of rainy days and it would have been great to kick back in the room with a movie. There is a central DVD player in the office which the staff load up with a movie at 6:30pm and 8:30pm, but the selection was limited and the quality was very poor.

There is wifi at Mangoes but guests are required to pay for using it. Given that most of the hotels we have stayed in where we've paid approx $250 per night offer wireless free of charge, this is something that should be included in the room rate.

Other than these two small points, Mangoes was absolute paradise and I would highly recommend it to those who are looking for a proper island escape.

Room Tip: The lagoon rooms offer a bit more privacy as they are further away from the main part of the resort...

This place was really nice and quiet. A lot of the 5 star resorts had problems with mosquitos because they were so close to the lagoon, so you don't get that here. The rooms are very spacious and clean and the staff are very friendly.
There weren't many kids around so i am not sure whether kids weren't allowed or no families were staying here, so it was really good.
There are nice pools and the taxi's are so cheap it doesnt make a difference that you are just a little bit out of town.
I think it's good value for what you pay.

We went for a quiet and relaxing week in Port Vila, and selected Mangoes. The resort itself is not bad, and they are adding some impressive new units on adjacent land, but they do take a bit of licence in their web-site regarding location. The resort is a fair way from the lagoon, but we thought it was just across the garden. The staff were friendly and island efficient.

A rooster lives next door, and at 0400 every day he gets up and wakes all the other roosters (I swear there is one in every second house) and they declare war on sleepers. On the second night there was apparently a mild tremor, and every dog in town (and there is definitely one in every house) took to the night with a bark-a-thon and that was the end of sleep for the entire night until the roosters started up again.

We spotted a couple of attractive resorts out of town and right on the beach: we may go back to Vanuatu, but not to Port Vila.
