“A perfect holiday”

A gorgeous little resort, casual and friendly, lovely staff (we even had people come check on us when we missed dinner one night!)
A perfect mix of relaxation and activities. Great to lounge around and do nothing, but snorkling, scuba-diving, sailing, fishing and visiting the mainland broke up any cabin fever.
Big thankyou to Tomas for being patient and encouraging while I learned how to scuba dive. I couldn't think of a more lovely part of the world to get my diving accreditation in.
The food was lovely (expanding waistlines were probably our only complaint!)
Also a big thankyou to the kitchen staff who did amazing things with the Mahi Mahi we caught.
Five stars from us!

Just returned from Vanuatu. First 3 nights at Hideaway. Very quiet and relaxing. Basic rooms but very well serviced; friendly staff. Bar and restaurant on the beach. Best steaks and prices cheaper than elsewhere. Great snorkelling at both high and low tide: lots of fish and lovely coral garden accessed by free boat. Mele Cascades and Port Vila easily accessed by bus - best when there is not a cruise ship in port. Look forward to going back!

great snorkling, off the beach, great variety of fish & corals, a marine sanctury, secluded, within reach of port vila, shopping etc.

Port vila touted as a good value duty free port, not true for $nz, poor exchange rate, much better to have $aus

After reading some reviews of Hideaway Is in Trip Advisor I admit we hoped we had chosen the right destination for our week's holiday.

From the moment we stepped ashore onto this unique coral island we knew we had come to the perfect place to relax and enjoy a getaway from a busy life. The Mele people who staff the resort are welcoming, smiling, happy, and have great pride in their little island, and nearby village ,on the big island (Efate).Service is always well intentioned, smiling, occasionally haphazard but just relax and go with it!!!

Our bungalow accommodation was simple, comfortable, island style decor, serviced daily and we loved returning to our rooms to find fresh flowers and our clothes folded up(!) and everything tidy. The gardens are beautiful, the snorkelling and diving are magical. The reef is only metres from shore.Plenty of live coral despite the cyclone a few years ago and an abundance of friendly fish(the island is a marine sanctuary).

If you are seeking a 5 star resort with air con,TV,telephones in rooms, loud music, kid's clubs, dubious spa "treatments" and all night bars and dancing don't come here!! There are plenty of those places in Port Vila!! Many day visitors who come out to Hideaway wish they were staying on the island;others rush back to their TVs and aircon (they simply don't "get" an authentic South Pacific island experience!!

We will definitely return to this natural, special place.

Extremely glad we stayed here as we were a little unsure, the staff and service was fantastic. We stayed in a twin share lodge which did not contain its own bathroom facilities as we could not book one of the other vilas however it was fantastic. We were very suprised to see we still got sink facilities and mini bar in our room. The views from the room were amazing. Very tranquil, quiet and romantic, you really do feel secluded yet it does not take very long to go to and from Port Villa to stock up on supplies. The meals are fantastic in particular the fish curry all meals are suitably priced. TIP: Highly recommend you visit the Casade falls by walking from hideaway it is only approx. 3-4 kms (you do not need to see them via a tour operator you save quite a bit of $ doing yourself) and you get to walk past the local villages. Admittance to the falls is $1500 vatu p.p. We went in the morning (opens at 8am) and missed all the tour groups having the whole place to ourselves...very romantic!

Hideaway Island is perfectly located, only 5 min ferry ride from mainland, Mele Bay & 10 min bus ride 300vt pp to Port Vila.

We stayed at the Lodge which has 6 rooms with a large verandah where you can watch the ferry come & go. The rooms have Dbl/sgl beds with lrg basin, cupboard, fridge, tea & coffe etc with shared shower/toilet facilities, which are very clean. The rooms are cleaned daily, beds made, clothes folded, fresh flowers, thank to Jim & the girls. Jim even put a bunch of bananas in our room.

Stella, Sue, Lilly, Delphine at Reception were more than willing to help out whatever your needs or wants are. Alice showed us through Mele village & all the kids came up to give you flowers, my hair &handbag were full of flowers.

Activity Hut: Eunice, Madeline for water sports. Gift Shop: Leipuma, Alice. Bar: Joe, Lulu, Nancy, Jenny, Charity. Restaurant: Bruce, Jimmy, Leina, Filoman, Angelina. Continental breakfast consisted of toast & spreads, juice, tea, coffee, lrg plate of tropical fruit & muffin. Happy hour 5-6pm, cocktails on the beach watching the sun go down (Sundowners), then have one of Bruces delicious curries.

Thursday nights Melanesian feast with local Mele village string band Jipajiroa. Young Alison & Lilly got us up to dance around the fire. Andrew made Kava. The food was wonderful, I wanted to go back for another helping, but I was too full up.

We were given 2 Island dreses & shirts from Stella, Joe & Pauline & a purple sarong from Lilly.

Tankyu Tumas to everyone at Hideaway & the beautiful people of Mele Village for helping our dreams come true.

Seafoki Akoe Sinarea,
Kevin & Julie

We didn't stay at Hideaway, but came as visitors to snorkle among friendly fishes, that are fed by the hotel staff and that's why not afraid of people. You must pay an entrance fee of 1000 vatu per person (kids free). snorkelling is very relaxing there, it's great for kids! Cafe/restaurant is average.
