“Best decision ever!!”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

This was our 1st holiday without our kids. We spent 7 days at Erakor from 26th Dec to 2nd Jan 2013. We booked the Romance Package. This Island is truely beautiful not just for the amazing views & crystal clear waters but the moment we stepped onto the ferry Donald greeted us with such friendliness.Upon arriving onto the isalnd we were greeted by Natalie who immediately took us to the bar for a cool welcome drink. She gave us the run down of the island & the events for the week. We could do as much or as little as we wanted.
Our room (No. 8) was very modern & newly renovated. We had a deck facing the water which was only 10 steps off the deck with our own private sunlounges & hammock. We had a private outdoor spa & shower. The snorkelling was beautiful with loads of starfish & coral to look at.
Thursday nights was Melanisian Feast night, we were treated to some traditional island dancing & Karva tasting (this is not to everyones liking but worth tasting just to say you've done it) and the food was abundant but the surprise of the night was the Fire Dancers, we thought this would be fairly tame, boy were we wrong. These dancers were amazing, they danced to up beat hip music & the show was brilliant.
In our package it included a chefs dinner. We were happily surprised to see our private table set up on a private little beach lit up with candles under the moonlight. Chef Tyrone designed a 4 course meal set around our likes & dislikes. This was a meal to remember!!! Lyndon you have got yourself one hell of a chef!
We also had a pinic lunch made up including a bottle of French champagne that we could take anywhere to enjoy.
I could go on & on about how much we enjoyed this holiday (if you stay in room 8 read the guest comments book because there were so many more people we thanked in it.
The only draw back was the weather - it was just so humid. We were told the best time weather wise is from April to early Nov.
Thankyou Lyndon for suggesting that we book to stay at your Island & Resort. We are planing to return with our friends & stay in the 'Big Housé' (the house sleeps from 6 - 10) what a fun holiday that will be.

Room Tip: The mainland side of the island is the nicest or if there is a group of 6-10, the newly renovated ho...

A local friend took us over for dinner one night. The boat across SA hassle free. The service was pleasant. The food good too. A nice place to dine and by the look of the set up, a nice place to spend a few days on holiday.

Went to the island resort for a wedding over the New Year.
Resorts are definitely not something I would normally go for but we were there with friends and for a purpose.
First and foremost, this is not a five star establishment. However it is a chrming sand island in a protected lagoon with enough amenities to please people who do like to hang out. There is no pool, no gym, no A/C. WiFi is iffy and costs.
However, access to "town" is easy, first by the free ferry to and from the warf (24 hour service on call) and there's always a busted van masquerading as a bus happy to take you whereever you want for $1.50. All this was quite fun actually.
The staff are very friendly and accomodating but everyone works on Vanuatu time. Don't expect fast service. We ate as a table of 10 at the resteraunt one night and it took almost 3 hours for the mains to get there. I will say that when the food finally did arrive it was acutually pretty good. There was a one man band doing a mostly reggae list of songs and he was pretty good as well.
So, don't know really what I'm saying here. We were there for a week, however we had a NY Eve Party on the beach (absolutely fantastic), a day for the wedding and receprion also on the beach, and a Melanesian Night so there were activities to keep things hapening.
We also took two days out to do a trip to the cascades (in the package and recomended) plus a day snorkliing cruise on Coongoola (highly recomended) to break things up otherwise there's not a lot to do.
Rooms are basic but roomy and clean. No A/C but views out the doors and off the balonies lovely. Fairly well spread apart so you feel you have room. You can walk right around the island in about 10 minutes.
I would rate it a good base for seeing more of Vanuatu and pretty good value for money.

Room Tip: There are some better ones, more expensive I'd guess, with spas and more modern amenities. you m...

We just enjoyed an 8 night stay at Erakor with our 12 year old daughter and whose 12 year old school friend joined us. What a fantastic little secret Erakor is. Although the accomodation was a little basic (Family Villa number 1) the resort itself is lovely. Accomodation wise - no aircon - but not a problem, ceiling fans and windows kept the villa cool enough. No tv. Not that you want one but it would be nice to put on a dvd at night. Bathroom very shabby and the one thing that i had trouble with was - no curtains - so wide awake at 5am. Oh and a mossie net would have been welcome. Now that that's out of the way. The resort and location were beautiful!! We had a little sticky beak at Le Lagon across the water - and YUCK. We were so glad we were at Erakor. The staff were beautiful, the restaurant was great (although, not cheap) and the lagoon is stunning (who needs a le lagon pool where you could really be anywhere in the world). Movie nights on the beach were great and the Melanesian feast night was fabulous! Albert (who doubled as the restaurant entertainer) was a delight as were all the staff. So, so friendly and inviting. We decided on Vanuatu as an inexpensive beach island holiday not expecting very much at all but we were so surprised at how wonderful it was. Would go back anytime. Oh and make sure you do an around island tour. Have never seen anything as beautiful as the Blue Lagoon. And Eton Beach. Vanuatu was fantastic and would recommend Erakor for beautiful beach (great snorkelling), sensational food, rest and relaxation. Very nice. Just revamp the family villas would be the only criticism.

Room Tip: Make sure you get one of the newly refurbished villas. The family villas really need an upgrade

Have you ever had that sinking feeling when the taxi (boat, car etc) pulls in to where you're staying? You've waited a year for your holiday, and you hope that your gut feeling is wrong, all those pics on the website were sooo beautiful, but the arrival does not meet your expectations?

An Island, yes, but you can throw a stone to the mainland.
Water; murky, no visibility, no reef, lagoon looks great until you get in it.
Amenities; built circa 1960 and not maintained or renewed.
Design and flow of main public areas; poor and disjointed, added on.
Architecture; 3/10 for the restaurant and 1/10 for all other dwellings.
Authentic Native Vanuatu craftsmanship of Main Buildings; no
Food; western, cheap, included is a breakfast is rice bubbles, flavoured yoghurt, white bread toast and 1 coffee pot to share with the other diners, wait your turn as every 4 cups it's empty!
Culture; not immersive, for show only
Island feel; no, like the mainland
Swimming pool; none
Hot water; none
Air conditioning; none
Flyscreens with no gaps; none - you could fit your hand in some of the holes and gaps created by windows, doorways, walls and floor not built straight.
Mosquitoes; yes, due to gaps and stagnant water outside. I always travel with Baygon Mosquito plug in repellant modules and I plugged in all 3! Put wedges of toilet paper in the window and wall gaps but still bitten 12 times (I hid under the thread bare sheet in oppressive heat and waited till morning when I could leave).
Feel of Room; like a YMCA camp in a disused Army barracks looking onto mosquito larvae breeding grounds of water pooled outside
Bath; no, Shower, cold (you share water with other rooms and I got 60 sec of warm water and washed my hair, waited for 15 mins and no more hot water came. Shower has no drain, it flows out a gap under a slat timber door (yes a door from the shower wall opens to outside to undergrowth and pools of undrained water).
Security; zero, no room safe, if you were an opportunist via the flimsy slide latch on the flimsy slatted door in the shower by one push in the latch area.
Suitable for; large wedding parties to book out all the rooms on the island (as was the case minus the room we booked and tried to sleep throughout the wedding party that spread all around the island and rooms after the main reception marquee was 'closed'). Cheap and cheerful accommodation for backpackers and those used to camping.
Value; No - Instead, pay $20AU more a night go from 1/2 star to 4 1/2 star at The Holiday Inn (10 mins away)
Overall feeling; Let down by the reviews, not what we expected at all.
Recommend Instead; Same Price Bracket; The Holiday Inn is great for couples but also noticed the kids stay, play, eat free, free Adults and kids massive buffet breakfast, culture nights, great food, adult pool, kids pool, free kayaks down the long lagoon/river, great staff, late check out OR Upmarket Option - Eratap - luxury personified 25 mins from the airport.

Room Tip: Book a room at The Holiday Inn for $20AU extra or book an upmarket 5 star Villa at The Eratap Resort...

I stayed at Erakor as part of a destination wedding. Erakor was amazing, the island is beautiful, the water is crystal clear and the perfect temperature. Our rooms had everything we needed in them and were always cleaned beautifully. There was no AC in there but the fans did the job and the island cooled down at night.

The laid back and friendly vibe on the island allows you to slow down, relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The staff there go above and beyond to make sure you have a great experience. By the end of the week we knew everyone's names and had a lot of fun hanging out with them. As with everywhere in Vanuatu, things run on Island time which means things might happen a little more slowly than you are accustomed too but it just means you get to slow down to a really relaxing pace as well.

The wedding was amazing, the wedding planner did an exceptional job organising everything and made sure the whole day ran beautifully. The staff were even more amazing on the day of the wedding, the lady who ran the spa even picked Frangipani's for all the ladies and ran around the island delivering them to our rooms so we could wear them in our hair.

The staff take a lot of pride in the maintenance of the island. There were always gardeners around raking the beach or tending to the gardens. It's location is ideal, allowing you to escape from the hustle and bustle of Port Vila but close enough to visit other items or duck into town if you need to.

In short, I wish I lived at Erakor Island resort.

Room Tip: If you are going with friends the family loft villa is a good option. It sleeps 4 comfortably (3 sin...

Erakor truly is the picture -perfect Robinson Crusoe palm tree island. They welkam non residents, and you pay 1000 vatu for the ferry across (10 AUD) which is then redeemable against the restaurant, bar or water sports.
The restaurant overlooking the bay is great for watching fishes and starfish, and the food was tasty (although I paid 1850 vatu/18 AUD for tuna sashimi, which was 2 small slices of tuna and no accompaniment).
The beach is great with plenty of loungers, and the lagoon is warm and turquoise and blissful.
I can't review the rooms themselves, but the day visit experience made me want to visit for more!
