I stayed in a deluxe spa villa on the holiday romance package with my new wife at the Erakor Island Resort and Spa. The island resort was a great place to get away and relax after our wedding. The room was well appointed and seemed to have been relatively recently refurbished. The main feature was a four-poster double bed that looked directly out onto the waterfront - our own private paradise! There was a nice bathroom with shower inside and a double spa bath outside. We enjoyed a combination of eating at the resort and in Town. The food at the resort was excellent. We would highly recommend the private beach dinner for two that came as part of our paradise romance package. The complimentary breakfast is very nice and the chef even cooks omelettes to order :-). There’s a lot going on at the island throughout the week: we took part in a Melanesian feast, night-time beach cinema, kayaking and snorkelling just outside your room! There are also many tours that can be arranged by the island staff, nothing is too much trouble and in our experience the tour guides were reliable and on time. This was one of the most memorable holidays we've ever been on - we cannot recommend it highly enough and would love to return to Vanuatu in the future. Thank you to all of the staff for making it such a great experience for us both.

Kind regards,

John and Emily

Room Tip: The deluxe spa villas are heavenly

We stayed in bungalow number 7 on the mainland side of the island. It was a beautiful room, very quiet, and we had no problems with it. Staff came by and did a full room clean every day if you wanted, and the rooms were always left very clean. The only downside of the rooms is that on our first night the doors had been left open during the day and the room was swarming with mosquitoes. Would be good if they invested in screens or kept doors closed before guests arrived.

The food on the island was good. Lunch menu was your normal choices - wraps, burgers etc. We did find the food slightly overpriced compared to what was available in Port Vila but it wasn't too bad. The staff were all very attentive and the service was great. Melenesian feast night was awesome! Very good fun.

The ferry back and forth from the island was very regular, and we never had problems getting a taxi or bus into town from the Wharf. While we were there we also ate at Vila Chaumiere and Chill. Both were fantastic. We would highly recommend a trip there.

We also did the Mele Beach (Sea Horse Ranch) horse riding which was great. The horses were very friendly and the ride was brilliant. We also did the zorbing which was a great experience. Natalie at the tour desk of Erakor Island was brilliant - we had no problems with booking any tours or island activities. It was all very easy.

We would definitely stay at Erakor Island again.

Erakor Island is a beautiful destination and greatly enjoyed the ferry trip to and from the mainland. We found the staff friendly and helpful, with a particular mention, as others have, to Annie in the restaurant, who certainly won the star of resort award. With a little more attention to detail the Villas could be more enticing and liveable. The water pressure was poor which impacted on the toilet and the shower consistently went hot and cold. The villas were sparsely decorated with nowhere to unpack or hang clothing and upstairs contained only 2 beds, nothing else. The lighting was poor which made it difficult to read at night and there is not much else to do on the island once dinner is over. For the price, some nice toiletries, quality tea and cofee (I would suggest the local "Tanna Coffee"), more furnishings, e.g. wardrobe to hang clothes, mosquito netting (both suffered bites at night) a guest laundry and daily room service would go a long way in making this a more attractive destination and better value for money. It was also disappointing that the lagoon restaurant was closed during our stay as this was one of the main drawcards to Erakor. The sunset was sensational!

We stayed at spa bungalow 23 which was the very last oceanfront bungalow. What a relaxing and energising stay. It is so secluded and peaceful. The bungalow is tastefully decorated, nothing too flashy but elegant. The queen bed is very comfortable and after a hectic few weeks wrapping up work and a wedding this was just the tonic.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Annie in the restaurant is a darling and the food was fantastic. The Santo steak was the piece de resistance that just melted in your mouth. Prices were a little less than an Australian restaurant. The only thing I would suggest here is to change the music, they had a guy on an organ one night singing Kenny Rogers and other really daggy music. It was obvious that the local music is reggae focused so a mixture of that and perhaps Cafe Del Mar stuff would be good. Also I would suggest that the guys halt their Reno work until the diners had finished breakfast of a morning, it's not nice to start the day with drilling or hammering.

The surrounding lagoon was great to swim, snorkel, sail or kayak and has some fantastic colours and star fish.

Erakor is away from the hustle of Port Vila but easily accessible.

We would love to come again, they really have the right mix of everything.

We arrived for a last minute trip to Vanuatu and stayed for 1 week! We had a ball in vanuatu - check out my other reviews for some of the amazing activities we did!
Here is a review of Erakor Island Resort:
Food: There is a nice over water restaurant on the island. They have a menu and specials board to order from. All the food we ate was very nicely cooked and tasted great - we always struggled with what we were going to order! We also loved having cocktails and lunch delivered to us on our beach loungers! The other great thing is with the 24 hour boat back to the mainland if you want to try eating somewhere else - you can!

Bure / Villa: Had everything we needed - bed was large and very comfortable - slept well every night! There was a mozzie net for the bed as well which did a great job although the island gets sprayed so there wasn't many. We slept with the doors to the ocean wide open all night and the sound of the waves was so peaceful and the nice sea breeze blowing in was lovely!

Service : All of the staff on the island were very friendly and excellent service! Our waitress in the mornings for breakfast would even put a flower behind my ear every morning while i was having breakfast. Natalie at the tour desk was great as was the guys who worked for her. The grounds keepers did an amazing job - they racked every leaf from the walkways and made the beach beautiful every morning before anyone wanted to use it. One night i could not walk and couldn't get back to my bure due to a foot injury - the staff were fantastic and ended up boating me around to a closer bure and carrying me from the boat to the bure - they really did well given the circumstances.

Lastly don't miss the Melanesian night. The firedancing show at the end is the best i have ever seen - we were left gobsmacked and it went for ages!!!!

The only reason i didn't give the resort a 5 is because I didn't enjoy the spa treatment on the island at all. In fact i couldn't wait for it to be over. The lady was lovely but I don't know maybe she needs some more professional training or something.

One more thing - there is no pool on the island but you really don't need one. The water is so warm even on the rainy or cool days the water was always really warm and the beach was really nice. No waves so perfect for the kids and a million star fish for you to spot!

Room Tip: If you have kids try and ask for a room with beachfront out the front of the bure rather than coral...

We stayed across the lagoon at the Warwick Le Lagon resort in Nov12 for a week but took the free ferry across to Erakor Island on most days to enjoy the wonderful food and cocktails at Erakor Isle restaurant, which is located on the waters edge adjacent to white sand plam studded beautiful beaches. We had a large variety of dishes from ravioli, scallop and prawn skwewer starter, mousaka special one night. Service was very friendly, relaxed and very attentive.

We thoroughly enjoyed each time we visited the island and highly recommend this gem.

We spent four nights at Erakor with our three kids (7, 8 & 10). Everything from the delicious welcome drink to our boat trip to the next accomodation was perfect. The water is great for snorkelling and kayaking, which is free if you are staying at the resort. There is a playground and huge trampoline for the kids when they need a break from playing in the water. We were there for their movie and dinner night, which was great fun. Was a bit disappointed we weren't there for the fire dancers which apparently are there on a Thursday night. The other two dinners were cooked to perfection for me, chicken in some coconut sauce? and the beef was so tender.

The Activities people who looked after the kids (Gilbert - we love you! and Jessica) didn't just look after them but joined in the fun! They also had couple of activites each day, which we will take advantage of the next time we are there.

The rooms are excellent. We were upgraded to a 'house' with 6 beds, so had plenty of space and TV/Fox. One thing I noticed was they had a clothes airer in our room - so simple and so much needed, why doesn't every hotel/motel have one, especially in the tropics?

The only thing that the kids (not me) complained about was the star fish - but then they are wusses and couldn't get the hang of snorkelling, maybe they'll get over it when they are older.

Room Tip: Rooms 1, 2 and 3 are closest to the beach where you can keep an eye on the kids from your balcony...
