“Wonderful place and amazing staff”
Reviewed June 9, 2012

My review might be slightly biased because we got married on Erakor Island and we and the most beautiful wedding!!! Every single member of the staff participated in making this day unique and perfect.
We were in the waterfront superior spa villa number 8, which I strongly recommend because they are on the prettiest side on the island and you get to enjoy your own private beach... we loved the outdoor spa. The room was always sparkling clean and the cleaning ladies were all so lovely!
There is no swimming pool, but there is a nice little beach whit easy access to clear waters. The down side is that reef shoes (available at the resort) have to be worn because of pieces of dead coral, which I found was a problem on many beaches in Vanuatu.
The included breakfast is really good including warm and cold options. The chef of the Aqua restaurant has a good reputation and our wedding reception was fantastic!
I highly recommend this resort and I would go back any time. Perfect place for couples, but also for children.

Room Tip: We were in a waterfront superior spa villa, which I strongly recommend because they are on the prett...

After a 7am departure from Melbourne, we arrived at Erakor Island mid afternoon, tired, a little crabby, and not expecting much. It took all of about five minutes to fall in love with the place. It was quiet, our little bungalow looking over the water toward the Erakor village side of the lagoon was stunning and very private, the island itself, from the gardens at the northern most tip, to the jungle at the southern end was just gorgeous. The restaurant had great food, the cocktails were delish, and the snorkelling in the lagoon was fantastic. But most importantly the staff on the island were an absolute joy, from Jerry and Albert the tour desk guys who organised all manner of excursions for us, and were happy to sit and chat and share their lives with us, to Bryan who entertained as he ran around the island doing all sorts of odd jobs, to Annie who greeted us for breakfast every morning and when we were leaving gave us a beautiful and heartfelt goodbye speech. The staff were genuine, generous and had an easy happy cameraderie that made the place seem more like a home that we were welcomed to rather than a resort. After seven nights at Erakor, we moved on to Breakas (we couldn't decide between the two resorts when we made the booking so opted to try both) and we consider that to be the biggest mistake we made in Vanuatu, we definitely should have stayed at Erakor.

If you are the type of person who needs a TV, or wants to sit around a pool drinking cocktails and getting hammered, Erakor is not the place for you. But if you want to stay with genuinely nice people and relax on a gorgeous island, I cannot think of anywhere better.

Yes, if you are facing the village side of the lagoon, you will hear roosters crowing in the morning, children playing soccer at the school, and on sundays you will hear the most beautiful singing floating across the water from the church. But to us, that lent a certain charm, knowing we were just a kayak paddle away from where people were going about their everyday lives.

We are not the type of people who usually return to a country we have already been to more than once, but we definitely intend to come back to Erakor.

Visited June 2012 during a day visit to Port Vila on a Cruise Ship. Met up with friends who live locally & headed over to the Island for a bite to eat. Ferry ride costs 1000 Vatu per person for day trippers however this is then provided as a credit at the Restaurant. Started with tasty garlic/ herbed bread then a mixture a seafood mains were ordered washed down by icy cold beers & white wine. Portions were a fair size & priced ok with perhaps one or two dishes slightly over priced however quality was good.
Sat on the verandah & watched the world go by with perfect weather & a wedding ceremony to watch before a quick explore of the resort & then return ferry & dash back to the ship.

Erakor is perfect for those who don't want to rage all night long. Great for families with safe swimming and many distractions for the ankle-biters, but hell on earth for teenagers with attitude problems if they're too cool to swim or kayak. Erakor is a few km. out of town but only a $1 ride into town on the frequent local buses. Don't get sucked in by the taxis, take the bus.
Snorkelling is best at high tide off the point, but for lots of colourful fish and coral take a day trip to Hideaway Island which has a marine reserve.
You can have a good meal at the back of the Fruit Market in Port Vila for a song. And don't forget the fabulous fruit - bananas to die for, grapefruit, mangoes +++
The lobster and coconut crab are local specialities, try the Harbour View Chinese restaurant for a very reasonably priced meal. The quality of the cooking at Erakor is very good, perhaps a little expensive though.
And a last word - the staff at Erakor are the best. Nothing is too much trouble.

We had a fantastic time at Erakor Island resort. After months of emailing and arranging our wedding from Australia, we finally arrived to be greeted by the loveliest staff working at this resort.
Everyone we encountered were friendly and accommodating in every aspect of the preparations of our wedding.

Although there was a wedding the day before- our day was perfect and we never felt like our wedding planning was forgotten, as our wedding coordinator ( Lovely Lita ) was always available and accessible to discuss anything we wanted leading up to the day.

The room was just divine and very romantic- having only been finished renovating some weeks before, everything felt new and clean. The spa and outdoor shower positioned just off the porch area was private. The outdoor furniture very modern and welcoming to sit back and watch the sunset over what felt like our own piece of beach.

All the meals were tasty, and we had several special meals ( Chefs dinner, Picnic for two ) whilst we stayed for five days, including breakfast which was buffet style each morning. The omelettes are awesome, and made to order by the morning chef. The daily activities all looked like fun if you so felt inclined to join in, but we were too busy either relaxing, picnicking, sight seeing in town or preparing leading up to our wedding.

This is an amazing place, either for a family holiday, and especially a wedding! We were so glad we chose to be married at Erakor Island and resort during our first visit to Vanuatu.

Room Tip: Rooms are or have been renovated recently ( with some work still continuing) Spa villas on the beach...

We stayed here for 5 nights of our honeymoon. We had a great time and will go back. The staff are really friendly and are always happy to help. The restaurant has great food, well priced and the breakfasts are good.
The rooms are very nice, we stayed in a superior spa villa which seemed as though it had recently been renovated. It was comfortable and romantic. The bed was noisy, not great for honeymooners. The spa was nice too, but we didnt use it a lot as we were too busy snorkelling in the beach outside our room and relaxing on the recliners on the beach.
The ferry to the mainland is reliable, even late at night and it is easy and cheap (300 Vatu in a bus) to get to town for diving or dinner.
Melanesian night was a highlight, the dancers were great to watch and had extreme patience with us tourists for photos etc. There are loads of free activties for those staying at the resort, like kayaking and clear bottom boats. There is play equipment for kids, which we will use next time. The local villagers came across for a wedding when we were there which was nice, the singing was great.
The church across the bay for the locals was very enthusiastic, sometimes even in the middle of the night, which was interesting.
There is a walk around the island which we did, there are lots of beaches to spend time on and beautiful veiws/swimming. The spa was great too, very well priced and friendly.

My wife and I recently visited Vanuatu and spent 2 great days @ Erakor. The people were extremely friendly and accomodating and the chef (Tyrone Mann) was outstanding.

We had the "Chef's dinner" and Tyrone and his staff made it the best meal we've ever experienced. Wish we could've stayed longer.
