We stayed for 4 nights for a wedding in February and March 2012. The "resort" is located on an island about 400m across a lagoon from Port Villa. We checked the trip advisor reports prior to coming and it is hard to reconcile the reviews with what we experienced. Rooms don't have air conditioning, television, phones, internet access or mini bars. There is no room service. The property doesn't have a pool, gym or any recreation courts. We had problems with the toilet and the fan in our room - the fan squeaked and the toilet blocked up. The showers ran hot and cold. The buffet style breakfast included two hot dishes - eggs and banana pancakes. The food provided for the wedding was very good but food for the rest of the stay was very average and expensive. The property was picturesque with lots of landscaping and was well maintained in that respect. However, like most beaches on Efate the beaches at Erakor are not really for swimming - they look great in photos but have lots of coral and rocks underneath the water - to bathe you need to wear dive boots to walk out to any depth. They are good for snorkelling though. The ferry service operates continuously but you will usually have to wait 5 - 10 minutes if it is in transit already.
This is not a luxurious resort by any standards and is very basic, even compared to facilities offered in a country motel in Australia. As long as you are aware of what you are getting for your money, this may suit but if you want actual "resort" standards look for another property.

Room Tip: The island is long and narrow. Room too close to the bar/restaurant can be too noisy due to noise fr...

I stayed at Erakor Island Resort over New Year 2011-2012. It was the most relaxing, enjoyable break ever! The staff are beautiful and anxious to please with the biggest smiles and a genuine welcome at every meeting - heavenly!
The accommodation was superb, quiet and luxurious with a private beach off my villa (as with all villas), great food (new chef!), and lots to do.

The best decision was to stay on the island away from the main island - it added to the 'special' feeling of being at a resort. It's just 3 minutes by ferry ride off the main island and the ride is a treat in itself especially at night.
Can't wait to go back!
My tip to visitors is - Remember this is a tiny island, on island time, with beautiful island staff - leave the rest of the world and its attitudes/demands behind. Absolute heaven.

Room Tip: Eash vill has its own private beach - book a villa away from the main beach for absolute seclusion.

I stayed at Erakor January 2012 with four of my girlfriends. From the moment we arrived, via a ferry which takes 10mins across the crystal blue waters of Erakor Lagoon we were welcomed by the happiest most accommodating staff...and a lovely cocktail!
We were informed about the resort and its facilities and shown to our Villa. It turned out Erakor are currently renovating (as it is the low season) so we were upgraded to a fantastic larger villa in the centre of the island, far enough away from the other villas that we could make noise without disturbing our fellow guests.
The villa had 2 rooms which sleep 5 people plus a loft area which slept 2, a large living area with tv & dvd player (which was switched off at the wall for our stay) & a large bathroom.
The lagoon that surround the island has some amazing reef which has lots of fish and perfect for snorkling.
The restaurant overlooks the lagoon and is a nice place to enjoy a cocktail, feed the fish and watch the sun go down. The food is good, but probably a bit over priced for what it is, although the warm beef salad & cob loaf are delicious (AUD$ prices)
The grounds surrounding Erakor are immaculate and well groomed at all times (to the point on our last morning a possible cyclone was coming through and they were still out their sweeping away the debris) It takes about 15mins to walk around the island which is pretty and low-impact.
The Day Spa is extremely relaxing and Esther, the beauticianl/waitress has magic hands. I can recommend the 60min facial & Hot Stone massage.
Overall, i highly recommend Erakor and whilst it isn't your modern commercial 5 star hotel, I think its staff and location make the place 1 in a million. Thanks to Lita, Albert, Alice in Wonderland, Jackie, Sam, Gabriella, Esther & the rest of the staff for making our holiday so great.

Room Tip: - request a villa of the west of the island that looks back at Le Lagon, as the lagoon is filled wit...

My husband and I stayed for 5 days at Erakor in January 2012. There is not much we could fault about this place. Staff were friendly, restaurant was good and location was wonderful...but what really made our holiday was our room. The room was gorgoeus and gave us the feeling that we were the only ones on the island. Our villa opened straight onto the beach from which there was wonderful snorkeling. We did get the "Go Troppo" package which is my only negative comment as it was sometimes difficult to organise and some things apparently included in the package were not available such as the Melanesian feast. But other than that, I would definitely recommend Erakor to friends and family.

Room Tip: I have seen some negative comments about rooms. All I can say was that ours was excellent ( rm 21...

We stayed on Erakor in January for seven nights and would have stayed another seven. We travelled as two adults and 2 children aged nine and twelve. Our room was number twenty which was at the end of the island and had the most amazing sunsets from our balcony. There are only the four cabins at this end of the island, and I don't think that too many people venture to see the sunsets from "sunset beach", or even known that the cabins are there. Sitting on the lounge on the balcony with the water metres away and the small waves washing up made for a perfect setting. Our family room had a double bed, day bed and a roll away and there was still lots of room. Our bed was very comfortable and there were no complaints from the children. The room was cleaned daily and towels etc replaced. Beach towels are available form the Beach Hut.

The staff were friendly and cheerful at all times. Breakfast at the restaurant was simple but sufficient. Lunch and dinner catered for all tastes and cocktail hour a must! You can save a little by having "family meals" between five and six. We snorkelled off the main beach and kayaked around the island and the water is clean and warm. Our children were busy all day and enjoyed Pizza and movie night as well as the other activities organised by the staff. Melanesian night is a must and fun for all.

Travel to Port Villa is a ferry ride across the lagoon then a taxi to town. Please negotiate the price before you go. We hired a driver for the day "Nalu from Tanna", he has a newer van and it's air conditioned and I can highly recommend him. Just ask at the tour desk but book in advance and negotiate a price for the day. His English is good and he will tell you about the different places that you go by. There were 4 adults and 4 children and he took us to Eton Beach, Blue Hole, Mele Cascade Waterfalls and ended up at the Beach Bar then back to catch the ferry across to Erakor and it was about 9pm.

Some things to do:
Coongoola - a must but make sure that there are'nt too many people, we had about 30 and it was fantastic.
Hire a taxi for the day and plan where to go. Our trip mentioned above was great for 1 day out.
Beach Bar - on Friday night for the fire show and a wood fired pizza. Get there early as it gets a lot of ex pats and pumps!
Big Blue - We hired a dive boat for half a day 4 adults and 4 children and it was great. Speak to Tony who is more than helpfull with any needs you may have.

It has been aroung thirty years since I had been to Port Villa and things have not changed a lot apart from more resorts. The room we stayed in could do with a face lift but for us we had no complaints, everyting worked and we enjoyed the resort for it's beauty and the people. There are new managers and they have already started renovations on several of the rooms and these would be fantastic once completed. This is not a five star resort where everyone sits around a pool but if you want a truly relaxing holiday and see what Vanuatu has to offer then this is the place to stay. We will be back!

My family and I stayed on Ekakor for a week in August 2011. It was absolutly amazing. Personally, I fell inlove with what I saw of Vanuatu. The water surrounding Erakor was pristine, clear and warm. The amazing sea life living under the water were easy to veiw with the free snorkelling gear and use of clear canoes which were available. The staff on the Island were the most wonderful people I have ever met. We were always greeted with smiles and waves. It was great that the staff took the time to get to know me and my family during our stay on the island. Our waterfront cabin was roomy and comfortable. The cleening ladies went in every day to put in fresh towels and everything else that needed to be done. The beds were extremely comfy. Having a little verandah to ourselves was great because we had privacy but we were still apart of the community on the island. The Melanisian feast on Thursday night was... fabulous! The dancing was great fun, the food was yummy and everybody seemed to be having a great time. This was my first trip over seas and I couldn't have wished for anything more perfect.

If you are thinking of staying on Erakor Island, do it.

Room Tip: Cabins on the side facing towards Port Villa have a much nicer view than the other side of the islan...
