“Great family resort with excellent kids club”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

We are family of 3 with one busy 3 years old had a very relaxing 10 days stay in Holiday Inn Vanuatu in September. It was an easy 3.5 hours flight from Sydney and short cub drive to the resort. The resort is relatively small with just one restaurant, but it's a great base to explore Vanuatu.

Kids Club:
The kids club made a big difference, it was recently renovated and is the best kids club we ever saw. Our daughter wanted to spend time there and it was hard to get her our as she had a lot of fun staying there. Kids club staff was very accommodating and very friendly. They even accepted our daughter 1 hour before opening when we had leave early for the day trip.

Pool:
The resort's main pool was another highlight and had a separate area for small kids with mushrooms fountains and little pool. Our 3 years old had plenty of fun playing around the pool. We haven't used the second pool, but it should be good if you want some privacy.

Restaurants:
Because of holiday's inn "Kids eat free" program we mostly ate in the resort, which was good, but was getting boring by the end of our stay. We ate in several restaurants in Port Vila and found Chill to be excellent. Other restaurants, such as La Tentation and Flaming Bull Steak House were big disappointments.

Rooms:
We stayed in the lagoon wing room with ocean view, which was clean and comfortable.

Hotel grounds:
Resort is by Erakor Lagoon and has beautiful surroundings with a large golf course. Unfortunately, lagoon’s water is not clear and has very little coral.

Activities:
You can get stand up paddle board, kayak or small sail catamaran free of charge and we had a lot of fun on the kayak.

Day trips:
We did 2 trips to Hideaway Island, which has world class snorkling and diving right from the beach. Accommodation and restaurant in Hideaway Island Resort looked very basic and we were glad we were staying in Holiday Inn. Here are some photos from diving/snorkling around Hidaway Island - https://picasaweb.google.com/105582055654165020855/DivingVanuatu

Mele Cascades trip was very pleasant and highly recommended.

Mount Yasur volcano on Tanna Island is very impressive and lets you get very close to the volcano craters. It’s a bumpy ride and expensive trip, but very surreal and unique experience. It’s a very bumpy drive to get to volcano on the dirty road and I only recommend it to adults. We didn’t stay overnight, but heard it looks much more impressive in the dark as lava is more visible.

We also went to Secret Garden, which was a waste of time.

Tips:
Register for Holiday Inn priority club before booking, apart from reward points we got free internet and cocktails.

Overall, I would highly recommend Holiday Inn if you are planning to visit Vanuatu with small kids.

Room Tip: Lagoon wing ocean view rooms.

Good Afternoon ecybers

Thank you for your detailed review.

Some very good good tips on some of the tours that are available around Efate and the growing trip to Tanna island to experience a very active Volcano.

Hope to welcome you all back to Vanuatu in the near future.

One of the best holidays we have had, everything from check in to check out was fantastic.
The staff and management are great and can't do enough to help you, all with a huge smile.
The location is great, not far airport so no long transfer, which is great
The food is great and a good variety, the bar staff make great cocktails, the baileys banana smoothies are great.
The kids club staff are awesome and welcoming all the time, our daughter keeps asking why we can't have them at home, lol.
Staff are great with the kids, whilst we were having dinner drinks they were always willing to help use get some piece and quiet, particularly Florence who really went out her way to ensure our kids had a great time.
The entertainment on site is suited to all tastes with all bands ensuring a range of music tastes, the band in the lobby bar even mixed a bit Gangam Style in to their set which was fun. The local dancers and fire show do a fantastic job and captivate the whole crowd.
The pool area is great for a relax and fun for kids with plenty of noodles and the big buckets and mushroom keeping both our kids entertained for hours.
The whole resort and staff are a credit to Management and the owners, we are looking forward to our next visit and have been pointing plenty of friends and family towards the resort for their holidays.

Room Tip: Highly recommend a interconnecting room if travelling with kids as it turns it in to a spacious unit...

Good Afternoon Glen D

Thank you for your 'Great' review.

Some fantastic comments here for us to share with the team that I am very lucky to have working at the resort.. The Kids Club continually gets great comments with plenty of tears around the time to go home.

Look forward to welcoming you and all the family back to Vanuatu in the near future.

Let's make it very clear, this is the worst hotel experience in all my life!

- We requested airport pick-up (at booking via hotel website) but nobody was waiting for us and nobody apologize when we arrived and no compensation

- We requested (at booking via hotel website) a room for 2 adults + 1 kid (9yo) but the room was not ready and the reception staff ask us to have dinner first so they can prepare a room. No apologize or any compensation

- During the night I was bitten on my face by a 20cm giant centipede. Horrible pain Only treatment offered by hotel was a relief spray and to apply toothpaste on my face! We had to push the staff to call a doctor for emergency (cortisone injection, pills,...). We paid all the medical bills and no apologize and no compensation offered by hotel management. I suffered major pain for the next 2 weeks.

Presence of a giant 20cm venomous centipede in the room proves that the room was not well checked by staff before check-in by guest and that the hotel maintenance and disinfection of its premises is poor.

Hotel security came to kill the centipedes with a shoes on the wall. When we checked out the next day, the wall was still dirty and not cleaned.... again proof of poor hotel management and maintenance.

- The air-con control panel was useless and we were freezing in the room. We complained at reception. When we check-out it was still not working properly. Again no apologize and compensation for the hotel.

I try to complain directly to IHG but their only action is to forward the complain to the hotel management and the hotel management reply was always "we are not liable".

So don't stay in this hotel without the best medical coverage because whatever happens to you , both this hotel and IHG will never feel liable and will never even give any apologize!

From now I boycott any hotel under any IHG brands (HolidayInn, CrownPlazza, Intercontinental) and as a manager of a company I already ensured none of my employees stay anymore in a IHG hotel.

We just had a wonderful 7 nights at the Holiday Inn resort in Vanuatu. The service was fantastic, food great and the rooms good. The small touches to make our trip with our three young kids easier were much appreciated ... great kids club activities and schedules, welcome packs for adults and kids alike, not to mention basket weaving at breakfast so mum and dad can have 5 mins of peace! We had a wonderful time and hope to be back soon.

Room Tip: Rooms don't have large balconies, so additional living space (ie. a suite) might be a better opt...

A beautiful place filled with beautiful people. We were a family of six visitng Holiday Inn and also accompaning us were my mother father and brother. All 9 of us were made to feel welcome and part of the "place" within hours of arriving. The resort is very big and offers plenty of space so it was easy to find a quiet place to be alone in your own private paradise or chill out by the pool and enjoy the company of others. Everyday came and went in a haze of sun, cocktails, swimming, kayaking, eating, dancing, golf and the sneaky kava or two, and that was just at the resort! We adventured out in the day and evening to town and sightseeing places and the front desk at the resort always helped us out in planning these. The breakfasts are indulgent with all the delicious fresh food/juice/fruit on offer. We also ate in the resturant in the evenings and found it adequate and choose to eat in town a few nights also to experience the nightlife. The rooms were great and spacious. I changed around the room to make it work for us and it wasn't an issue. The bath is lovely and deep and the showers have great pressure. For me as a fulltime working mum of 4 it was a real treat to walk out of the room in the morning and come back to a neat room, made beds and fresh towels. The staff are an absolute pleasure and very engaging. I think the friendly attitude is filtered down from the top mangers to the staff as we had the pleasure of meeting the G.M and Chef etc and they too are great conversationalists. Although I'm sure they still owe me a shot or two. The kids went to Kids Club and the ladies are lovely, they stayed awhile and had a blast although they only went the once this wasnt because they didnt love it there was just so much to do! The holiday was so rememberable and was exactly what we wanted as a family. If your considering going, do it. You wont regret it.

Thank you for your review and photo's.

Looks like you had a great time and got to know the team. Vanuatu is well known for having some of the most friendliest and happiest people in the pacific who are genuinely interested in you something you clearly experienced during your stay. You have also mentioned one of the points that makes Vanuatu slightly different to other Pacific destinations which is the close proximity of both some great tours but also fantastic dining options to the resort.

Hopefully we will see you back to create some more memorable experiences in the future.

What a beautiful place for a wedding. We stayed there late September early October. My daughter was married on the lagoon and we had a small reception following. Jenelle, the wedding coordinator did an excellent job, she was meticulous, thoughtful and considerate, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Both sides of the family stayed for about a week and enjoyed many activities together. Although it was school holidays the resort is big enough that we never felt crowded or couldn't get a seat in the restaurant. We were there for both football grand finals in Australia and my husband enjoyed watching the Swans with one of the managers at the beach bar, he was friendly, helpful and always approachable throughout our stay. My suitcase didn't arrive on our flight and we had a few anxious days waiting for Sydney to find find it. The managers were all very helpful, arranging for my husband to go back out to the airport at midnight for the next 2 nights. When showing friends the photos of the wedding, one comment has been repeated, that it looks like a fairy tale. There were plenty of activities on the island to keep us busy, the resort is only a short taxi ride to town. We did off road adventure with swimming with turtles and sharks, the waterfall , one daughter did the parasailing and the bride and groom went on the jungle zipline. What a wonderful place to visit , we will be back again.

Good Morning bethrod

Thank you for your review and photo.

Some fantastic comments regarding you and I will make sure she sees the review. As you mentioned the resort is well set out so you can space for yourself either around one of the two pools, hammock or lazing in a cabana!

You shared some of the most popular activities on offer and all very close to the resort with the Casade waterfalls always being a highlight for everyone.

Look forward to welcoming you all back for the next chapter of the fairy tale in the near future!

This was our first trip to Vanuatu and we were so pleased we picked the Holiday Inn. What a wonderful resort. Stayed with my husband and our 11 yr old son, and there was plenty for us to do and lots of time to relax and chill by the pool. The staff are a real credit to the resort and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. (Especially Fridya, who we loved having a chat with each day). Booking activities outside of the resort is also made easy through the resort itself. My husband and son loved their big game fishing trip!

We especially loved the buffett breakfasts each morning. A huge variety of foods and the fresh fruits were amazing. We weren't so keen on the buffett dinners, so we ate a la carte most nights, and the food was delicious, especially the Santo eye fillet!! Also had room service dinners and they never got our orders wrong once and delivered in a timely manner.

The resort is very clean and beautifully landscaped. Definately book a lagoon view room if you can.

We would definately come back again :-)

Room Tip: Go for a Lagoon View Room. Views are stunning

Thank you for the 'Wonderful' review and photos.

We a re certainly lucky to have so many fantastic experiences close to the resort including some great fishing! Vanuatu has become very well known for its beef and its is now exported around the world. The rumour is the biggest stress any of the cattle have is a coconut falling them from a tree that's why the beef is so good.

Look forward to welcoming the three of you back to Vanuatu in the near future.
