Owner description: Big Blue Scuba teach more people to dive than anyone else in Vanuatu. We have local instructors and dive masters with great local knowledge. They love to share their dive sites with divers of all levels and experience, with multiple boats and dive sites we can cater to all.

“Great diving!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 27, 2012

Big Blue are a fantastic team to go diving with in Vanuatu. My wife and I did a total of 16 dives with them - they were knowledgeable, experienced, safe and a lot of fun to dive with. They offer very reasonably priced dives and have a good ratio of divemasters to divers. They are also great at offering courses - we both did our advanced open water while we were there. In terms of diving in Port Vila there are three wrecks and some great coral reefs. I couldn't recommend it more - having talked to people who had dived with some of the other outfits in Port Vila then came over to Big Blue they are easily the best people to dive with. As one last point, they have also just got all new equipment and kit in which is great to use.

“Must Do Big Blue!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 22, 2012

Vanuatu is a divers paradise and the crew at Big Blue know all the best spots! They were very thorough with saftey and supervision underwater and super friendly and funny above the surface! I recommend Big Blue Diving as an absolute must, it certainly was the highlight on my holiday and the CD you can get with all the underwater photos they take is spectacular! Cheers for the delicious Grapefruit and Pineapple when got back on the boat as well - that was a nice touch. Very Professional and reasonably priced for the quality of the experience.

“An outstanding experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2012

Big Blue is an incredible operation, all the staff are friendly, welcoming and go to great lengths to make sure you are happy and comfortable in the underwater world. I did the introductory pool dive at our resort one morning and then went out on the boat for a sea dive later in the afternoon. The pool session put me at ease and taught me all the basics while the sea dive was an absolute holiday highlight. I enjoyed every minute and felt looked after the whole time (the staff-to-diver ratio was I think around 7:4 which I thought was excellent). The marine life in Vanuatu is stunning. A big thanks to Mike, Maggie and the wonderful team, I will definitely be taking scuba to the next level because of you!

“Personable, professional, friendly, patient, and fun!”

As we promised ourselves (see review Feb 3, 2012) after a pool dive at Breakas, and open water introduction to SCUBA dive near Pango Point, with Jerry from Big Blue in September 2011, MsWab and I returned to Vanuatu in May 2012 to undertake our PADI Open Water diver certification. We arrived on the Friday, 4th of May and spent the weekend of the 5th and 6th hanging about Big Blue and reading and absorbing the PADI text as well as viewing the video back in our accommodation a few times as well. We’d organised with Tony the dive director at BB to start the dive course proper on the Monday, May 7th. Jerry collected us from our accommodation and we headed out to Breakas to do a pool dive to go over the theory and practice of skills we would need in the open water. We went through those routines without a problem and headed back to BB to complete the first theory exam and then do the first ocean dive that afternoon. We did the first dive continuing with the routines that are necessary to be a safe and skilled open water diver, such as dealing with mask removal, also mask filling with water, and loss or malfunction of breathing apparatus and sharing a secondary regulator with a dive buddy. On Tuesday May 8th we started the day with the final and extended exam of dive theory which we both passed without problems, mainly because of the awesome knowledge pool we had to draw on, to ensure we understood the principles and application of dive rules and safety practices. Mike spent a bit of time re-explaining the recreational dive planner and working through a few examples so we were the full deal on it . We headed out on another dive with Jerry Tuesday afternoon, continuing the training sequences required to get PADI certification under our belts.
On the Wednesday we did a double dive with Brenton Terry and a bunch of other divers although we did our training as a small team of just 3. We finished the training routines without a problem on the first dive of the day then moved with the others in the group to the Twin Bommies for our final dive of the course and of the day. This was an awesome dive as there was actually heaps to see and do around the Bommies, lots of fish and marine life, and lots of activity, with another BB diver giving us bread while down at 18 metres to feed the large fish who were very aggressive in getting it out of our fingers. When we got back to BB we updated our log books and were presented our PADI Open Water dive certificates by Brenton. We also did a double dive the following Sunday, doing the Konanda wreck and the Yankee Juliet aircraft wreck with Brenton and Andrew (Steptoe) and got to experience a 25 metre dive.

I just can't say enough superlatives about this team, Tony the Dive Director, Maggie and Mike, owners and encyclopaedic resources regarding dive theory and practice, Jerry our awesome instructor and Brenton who supervised our final dives and certified us, and Andrew who accompanied us on our first wreck dives on the 13th May.

If you ever thought you might like to try diving go and see this crew, you'll never look back nor regret it. We are already planning our next trip and diving with Big Blue. Thanks so much to you all.

“A great professional company”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 24, 2012

We were in Vanuatu in late march as part of a world tour. We did 7 dives - one night dive on the twin bommies. The briefings were excellent and the dive leaders did a superb job. The semle wreck was outstanding with fantastic visibility at 42 metres down. Lou was great on this dive. The cathedral cave dive is a must. The way the light comes into the cave just places it in a different league. We would strongly recommend these guys to everyone. It is real fun diving with them
