Owner description: The largest tropical gardens in the South Pacific recovering well after Cyclone Pam in March 2015, the panoramic views from The Summit are stunning. Visit THE SUMMIT GARDENS for FREE, view health & body products being made at The Essential Oils Distillery, Cafe and Health & Body Gift Shop, DAY SPA and more... THE SUMMIT GARDENS have been developed to provide maximum pleasure to the visitor. Opened to the public in November 2011, the 11 named gardens, spread over 6 hectares, are all distinctly different, unfolding as a series of surprises as you follow the meandering pathways and steps. At nearly 200m above sea level, the escarpment garden offers the visitor breathtaking views over Mele Bay. Within the gardens are THE ESSENTIAL OILS DISTILLERY - see how oils from sandalwood, Tahitian lime, mandarin, tangelo, ginger, etc, grown at The Summit are extracted and where our range of health and beauty products based on Sandalwood, soaps and candles are made. The Gardens were devastated during Cyclone Pam on Friday 13 March 2015. Since re-opening in August 2015, admission to the gardens is free and must remain so until they recover their former glory and world class status, and we wanted to share this journey with you. However, costs for rehab and garden team wages are ongoing. We believe in Trade not Aid... So if you want to help us going forward, please call into The Summit Gift Shop after your garden stroll and choose your favourite Made in Vanuatu skincare products, 100% Tropical Vanuatu Inspired, 100% Natural & Sandalwood Based. All net proceeds from the shop go to cover the costs of restoring The Summit Gardens. And remember, our products carry a 100% Money Back Guarantee. Come to THE SUMMIT CAFE for refreshments or lunch and take in more of the wonderful views. ALLOW 2-3 hours for your stay - take a leisure walk and lunch or refreshments, or wander around at your leisure for the whole day if you wish! Enjoy a Walk at the Rainforest or Dare the Canyon Ride (Admission Fee applies), or do the Segway Tour (Admission Fee applies) BUT Remember, there's NO ADMISSION FEE to visit and to enjoy The Summit Gardens for now! You can come by bus, by your own car, by your transport. Do come visit-you won't be disappointed! ATTN: Air Vanuatu/ Virgin Blue / Air Caledonia / Fiji Airways / CRUISE SHIP VISITORS & Everyone - To Visit The Summit Gardens is FREE! Explore, Discover, Dine & Shop in the Clouds! If you're feeling adventurous, dare the Canyon Ride or do the Segway tour! ADMISSION FEE APPLIES to both these tours.

Hi ChrisyG23

Your comment is welcome even though it is the lowest rating we have ever had. I also think it is an unfair comment to say the gardens are “over rated” because I suspect you did not actually go through the gardens. Boredom is not possible in the gardens because it is a well known fact that they never fail to enthuse and delight all comers, whether garden lovers or people who have yet to become such. People of all ages and from all walks of life appreciate The Summit Gardens. We have had comments saying we are “world class”, and that what we have to offer is the same level or better as gardens in Singapore and Hawaii, in fact “the best tropical gardens I have ever seen” is a very frequent comment. A reviewer once wrote “ My husband and I are not gardeners but we loved everything the tour had to offer and appreciate the hard work that is put into it .”
Yes the views are great and I am glad we had something to please you during your visit.

“"Beautifull green garden ever"”
Reviewed May 9, 2013

I have been to summit two weeks ago with the tourism student from APTC. The tour there is part of our class requirement known as familiarisation. The location was very good because up there you could smell the plants and the flowers as well as breath the fresh air. It was a great experience to walk throught the beautifull flowers and plants at the top of the mountain. On top of that they produce oil out of the trees such as sandalwood. The garden was very attractive and colourful.I recommend summit as one the best green beautifull garden ever in vanuatu...

Hi Franco,
Glad to hear a lovely comment about The Summit from an APTC student, thank you. I’m pleased you had the opportunity and had a great experience walking through the largest tropical garden in the South Pacific that is The Summit Gardens. All our visitors, including locals, to The Summit are very surprised to find such a beautiful garden and stunning views right here in Port Vila and Vanuatu. Visitors are even more surprised to learn that Sandalwood is grown in Vanuatu and that it and other essential oils are processed and distilled on-site in The Essential Oils Distillery. We hope that you can promote us to your friends, families and to your work colleagues. Please let them know that with locals we offer a Frangipani Pass which you pay on first visit then get free admission into the gardens for the next 12 months. Please spread the word about The Summit. Tankyu tumas.

“A tropical oasis not to be missed”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

My husband and I visited the Summit the morning of our last full day in Vanuatu following recommendations from the manager of Villa 25 and the proprietor of Gallery Blong Vanuatu. The road in is very bumpy -- luckily we had a 4WD -- and the drive up to the top is essentially a series of paved switchbacks. We stopped in first at the essential oil distillery, where a very friendly and knowledgeable Ni-Vanuatu woman explained what the workers behind the glass partition were doing and showed us some of the plants, trees, and grasses that were used in the distillation process. We then paid admission to the gardens, where we spent probably an hour and a half marveling over one beautiful thing after another -- a flower, a tree, the view. We timed our visit so that we could end it with lunch in the cafe, and we're glad we did -- the food was fresh and tasty and the serves were very generous. I had a Tahitian lime juice and the prawn salad, and my husband had a sugarcane juice and pork medallions served with vegetables. We also bought some soaps and essential oils in the gift shop, and it was very convenient to pay for our lunch and our goodies all in one go at the end. The woman in charge of the gift shop was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about all the products. She even wrapped up my bottle of Tahitian lime essential oil in bubble wrap and threw in a little sampler pack of soap, moisturizer, and body butter. She said we would have no problem getting our products (which also included two vacuum packs of Tanna coffee) through Australian customs because everything was sealed, and she was right. We did many things during our week in Vanuatu, and our visit to the Summit Gardens ranks among the best.

Hi Ferntree22,
Wow, what an awesome review Ferntree22, thank you. Yes the drive along Devil’s Point Rd is very bumpy especially after days of heavy rain. Once there’s a dry period then the road gets graded, this is the courtesy of the landholders along Devil’s Point Rd to maintain its upkeep which The Summit also contributes to the upkeep of the road. The tour always starts in the Distillery where all the handmade essential oil products are manufactured and distillation of oil; the raw materials such as Sandalwood, citrus trees, vetiver are grown at The Summit Plantations or sourced from other Islands of Vanuatu. We are so pleased you took an extended visit through The Summit Gardens, yes one can marvel over one thing after another as there are over 1000 different species of plants and trees in the 11 named gardens and the view is definitely one to rave about, very spectacular! We are very fortunate to be able to see the gardens and views each day, it makes working at The Summit a pleasure and to share it with our visitors. Your compliments have been passed onto the Chef and her team, The Café serves delicious fresh food and 3 kinds of The Summit’s own signature drinks as well as Vanuatu’s local Tanna coffee. Lily in the Health & Body Shop is a very friendly, enthusiastic person who knows all about the products and is great with customer service. Lily also says tankyu tomas and hopes that you shall give some more feedback on the products which are also available from our Online Shop. We are pleased you didn’t have any problems going through customs with our products which we know can be taken into Australia and New Zealand. As always, if in doubt, please declare on your customs form. Please do come back and visit us again.

Hi Ana L,
Thank you for your review and photos posted, they are all great. The garden walk is very relaxing and peaceful. The Summit Gardens has a diversity of over 1000 plants of different colours, shapes and sizes. It is a pleasure taking visitors through on a guided tour and with each season we excitedly look forward to see plants come into flower so we can show visitors. It is a great place to sit a while and reflect, also to get in touch with nature. We are pleased you took the opportunity to go to the Health & Body Shop which is co-located at The Café. The coconut oils infused with our other oils such as Tahitian lime is also very popular. You can visit our Online Shop for future orders of coconut oil as well as many other products made at The Summit Vanuatu. It is an enterprise that provides vital jobs for the local Ni-Vanuatu people.

“Fantastic Gardens”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

A truly wonderful place, delightful gardens, breathtaking views back towards Vila and a entertaining and informative guide. The gardens are full of interesting and colourful plants and Roy the guide knew a lot about the plants and their use.

Interesting food plants as well, particularly liked the natural vanilla plantation.

The coffee shop has great views, good food and sells skin care etc made on site.
