Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: The largest tropical gardens in the South Pacific recovering well after Cyclone Pam in March 2015, the panoramic views from The Summit are stunning. Visit THE SUMMIT GARDENS for FREE, view health & body products being made at The Essential Oils Distillery, Cafe and Health & Body Gift Shop, DAY SPA and more... THE SUMMIT GARDENS have been developed to provide maximum pleasure to the visitor. Opened to the public in November 2011, the 11 named gardens, spread over 6 hectares, are all distinctly different, unfolding as a series of surprises as you follow the meandering pathways and steps. At nearly 200m above sea level, the escarpment garden offers the visitor breathtaking views over Mele Bay. Within the gardens are THE ESSENTIAL OILS DISTILLERY - see how oils from sandalwood, Tahitian lime, mandarin, tangelo, ginger, etc, grown at The Summit are extracted and where our range of health and beauty products based on Sandalwood, soaps and candles are made. The Gardens were devastated during Cyclone Pam on Friday 13 March 2015. Since re-opening in August 2015, admission to the gardens is free and must remain so until they recover their former glory and world class status, and we wanted to share this journey with you. However, costs for rehab and garden team wages are ongoing. We believe in Trade not Aid... So if you want to help us going forward, please call into The Summit Gift Shop after your garden stroll and choose your favourite Made in Vanuatu skincare products, 100% Tropical Vanuatu Inspired, 100% Natural & Sandalwood Based. All net proceeds from the shop go to cover the costs of restoring The Summit Gardens. And remember, our products carry a 100% Money Back Guarantee. Come to THE SUMMIT CAFE for refreshments or lunch and take in more of the wonderful views. ALLOW 2-3 hours for your stay - take a leisure walk and lunch or refreshments, or wander around at your leisure for the whole day if you wish! Enjoy a Walk at the Rainforest or Dare the Canyon Ride (Admission Fee applies), or do the Segway Tour (Admission Fee applies) BUT Remember, there's NO ADMISSION FEE to visit and to enjoy The Summit Gardens for now! You can come by bus, by your own car, by your transport. Do come visit-you won't be disappointed! ATTN: Air Vanuatu/ Virgin Blue / Air Caledonia / Fiji Airways / CRUISE SHIP VISITORS & Everyone - To Visit The Summit Gardens is FREE! Explore, Discover, Dine & Shop in the Clouds! If you're feeling adventurous, dare the Canyon Ride or do the Segway tour! ADMISSION FEE APPLIES to both these tours.

Dear 265JoyW,

When you hear the words “The Summit” you know that it’s on top of a mountain and you get a fair idea that the views as you drive up the mountain will be even more amazing from the top . But once you get to the top you’re amazed by how spectacular the view really is. . You see the view from driving up the hill, walking through the garden and sitting at The Café. The tour of the distillery is very interesting as you mentioned because you get to see the demonstration of essential oil products being made and distillation of essential oil. Once you see how we grow our plants, and then make our top quality products, then it entices you to buy them at The Health & Body Shop. There is always a great selection of products at the shop and I hope you bought lots of goodies to take back with you. We would love for you to shop for more online and tell all your friends and families to also shop online. We are very proud of our “Made in Vanuatu” products as we are in the process of developing The Summit as The Essential Oils Hub of the South Pacific.

Regards,

Katrina

“BEAUTIFIL PLACE Excellent scenery LOVELY TIME.. Very Friendly”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

We did this during a P&O tour.. March 13.. but we it booked online.
This is a very reasonbly priced and very lovely tour - esp if you like good views, gardens, lovely food at the cafe and some very nice oils/essences/soaps and candles to buy. Plus because we booked on line we got $12 each free stuff as well.
The folk running the place are very very friendly and helpful. You get a 40 min taxi ride up to the SUMMIT which gives some sight seeing of the country side and a real pic of the locals... and the views from the SUMMIT are ezquisite..Then have a lovely rest in the cafe and have coffee or a drink at the bar & look around the shop...Take your camera.. you can look right out across the bay to the ship. This tour is better and a lot cheaper then the P&O on board tours. Thye dropped us back to the city and we shopped after that.

Hi Marilyn peach,

Thank you for your lovely comment. Yes I remember you and your husband booked and paid online to do The Garden Tour and you came on the Pacific Jewel cruise ship. As you say the beauty of booking online is the tour includes transfers from the wharf return (or if you wish to get dropped off in town after your tour for duty free shopping, this is up to you), admission into the gardens, voucher for light refreshment at The Café and on top of that each paying adult customer receives a FREE GIFT. By booking a tour online you avoid the bad behaviour of the taxi/bus drivers at the wharf. Yes, the tour is much cheaper than a comparable tour sold on board the cruise ship. Another advantage is that because our tours are not sold on the cruise ships, we ensure our visitors do not experience any crowding and discomfort caused by lots of people being crammed into one place at any time. The 35 minute drive from the wharf to The Summit is certainly a good drive because it gives you some sightseeing as you mentioned. Yes, from The Summit you get a really good view of the cruise ship especially standing at the Look Out Point which is at the bottom of The Terrace Garden. After the garden walk you again enjoy the view of seeing your cruise ship at The Café while enjoying that cooling lime juice or Summit Punch and then to conclude your visit, you can find all your souvenirs and The Summit Range of fabulous essential oils based skincare products in our Health & Body shop. We are happy you had a very good experience and please recommend to everyone you know to book online before they come to The Summit. Our friendly and lovely staff are always keen to meet new people and always take the time and effort to show them the magnificent delights of The Summit.

Regards,

Katrina

“Great Garden, Great View, Great Food.”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

What more can you say than, Great Garden, Great View, Great Food. Any one of these things should put a visit to the Summit Gardens on your list of things to do in Port Vila!

“Island Paradise”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

We got a bus up to the Summit Gardens and the staff there couldn't of been more helpful despite clearly being surprised to see us as we had not used the bus they provide from Port Vila but one of the normal local buses. They even saw we had large bags with us and offered to store them for us. They showed us the distellery and then a guide started our journey around the gardens before leaving us to have a romantic stroll around the beautiful gardens with spectacular views. The walk ends on a shop and cafe and while we did not eat we brought some great products that they make in the distellery. Definately a highlight of our trip.
