Owner description: The largest tropical gardens in the South Pacific recovering well after Cyclone Pam in March 2015, the panoramic views from The Summit are stunning. Visit THE SUMMIT GARDENS for FREE, view health & body products being made at The Essential Oils Distillery, Cafe and Health & Body Gift Shop, DAY SPA and more... THE SUMMIT GARDENS have been developed to provide maximum pleasure to the visitor. Opened to the public in November 2011, the 11 named gardens, spread over 6 hectares, are all distinctly different, unfolding as a series of surprises as you follow the meandering pathways and steps. At nearly 200m above sea level, the escarpment garden offers the visitor breathtaking views over Mele Bay. Within the gardens are THE ESSENTIAL OILS DISTILLERY - see how oils from sandalwood, Tahitian lime, mandarin, tangelo, ginger, etc, grown at The Summit are extracted and where our range of health and beauty products based on Sandalwood, soaps and candles are made. The Gardens were devastated during Cyclone Pam on Friday 13 March 2015. Since re-opening in August 2015, admission to the gardens is free and must remain so until they recover their former glory and world class status, and we wanted to share this journey with you. However, costs for rehab and garden team wages are ongoing. We believe in Trade not Aid... So if you want to help us going forward, please call into The Summit Gift Shop after your garden stroll and choose your favourite Made in Vanuatu skincare products, 100% Tropical Vanuatu Inspired, 100% Natural & Sandalwood Based. All net proceeds from the shop go to cover the costs of restoring The Summit Gardens. And remember, our products carry a 100% Money Back Guarantee. Come to THE SUMMIT CAFE for refreshments or lunch and take in more of the wonderful views. ALLOW 2-3 hours for your stay - take a leisure walk and lunch or refreshments, or wander around at your leisure for the whole day if you wish! Enjoy a Walk at the Rainforest or Dare the Canyon Ride (Admission Fee applies), or do the Segway Tour (Admission Fee applies) BUT Remember, there's NO ADMISSION FEE to visit and to enjoy The Summit Gardens for now! You can come by bus, by your own car, by your transport. Do come visit-you won't be disappointed! ATTN: Air Vanuatu/ Virgin Blue / Air Caledonia / Fiji Airways / CRUISE SHIP VISITORS & Everyone - To Visit The Summit Gardens is FREE! Explore, Discover, Dine & Shop in the Clouds! If you're feeling adventurous, dare the Canyon Ride or do the Segway tour! ADMISSION FEE APPLIES to both these tours.

Hi traveltragic50,
Thank you for your ‘lovely hidden gem” reference to The Summit. Yes, the team of 5 gardeners do a wonderful job of maintaining The Summit Gardens. There are two orchid gardens. At the entrance its mainly local orchids where as in the 'White with a Dash' they are all exotic orchids. The Café always makes great food using local fresh produce. We hope you can come and visit us again on your next holiday in Vanuatu.
Regards, Katrina and The Summit Team

after zipline we did the summit garden, it has the most beautiful tropical flowers and the views are spectacular, it was ashame we couldn't take mum as it was very up and down small track and steps, not good for elderly with walker, but she could sit in the lovely cafe , which offered great food, and the shop which sold the locally made soy candles and soaps with all the fragrances from the flowers, spices etc all local grown.

Thank Lizrea

HI Lizrea,
Thanks for your review and glad you did the combo of the Zipline and The Summit Gardens tour, making the most of your visit to The Summit Vanuatu. I'm sorry too that your Mum couldn't do the Garden Tour, sometimes we have a 'mule' vehicle available to do part of the tour from the grassed area and whilst one can't see all the various 11 named gardens this way, they can appreaciate all the hard work put into creating The Summit Gardens. I'm pleased Mum was able to enjoy the views from The Cafe as well as a meal and I'm sure the staff would have kept her company. The Gift Shop is delightful, filled with many health and beauty products Made in Vanuatu at our on-site essential oils Distillery.

Unless you are a fitness ninja, I'd get a taxi up the drive as it's one of the longest and steepest driveways I've encountered. At the top it's very serene and pretty and the view is wonderful. There is a distillery (I didn't go there, can't comment) and the Ziplining, which is awesome. The entry fee was $20 but if you just want the view and no gardens, you can just go as far as the carpark.

Hi Joanna B
Thanks for your comments but it sounds like you may have walked up the hill, and yes it is great exercise but the normal way up is by vehicle. It seems you may not have paid Admission Fee to go into the actual escarpment & terrace gardens which is The Summit Gardens, whilst the views from The Cafe are good, one does not actually get to see or appreciate the work that has gone in to create The Summit Gardens. There aren't actually any views from the Carpark. I'm pleased you had a great time on the Zipline and perhaps next visit to Vanuatu you might like to visit The Summit Gardens - it is beautiful and very peaceful. It's a great day combo doing the Zipline and the Gardens Tour, then have refreshments or lunch at The Cafe and a spot of shopping in the Gift Shop for Made in Vanuatu products, much of which can be seen in the essential oils Distillery located next to the Carpark.

Hi Semci,
Yes, it is a very steep hill to climb but it’s certainly worth it! Thank you, and great that you made use of your morning at The Summit. We value our customers so the staff are always friendly and helpful. The garden is always colourful year round so lots to see. For when you visit next, we now have a new tour 'The Summit Plantation Tour' which showcases our essential oil plants including sandalwood, Tahitian limes, mandarin, tangelo, vetiver grass, ginger, ylang ylang to name a few. More reasons to come visit Vanuatu and The Summit again soon.

We combined the Summit Garden with the Zipline. The tour of the gardens is interesting and informative but the highlight for us was the Cafe. We had spent probably 3 hours there eating and drinking while our group worked its way through the zip line. The pizza's were fantastic out of a wood fired pizza oven and the pork belly was great too. Fantastic view from the verandah

HI Brett T,
Thanks for your review. What a great way to spend several hours at The Summit combining The Gardens tour with the Vanuatu Jungle Zipline, then coming down from the 'high' by having a delicious lunch and cold refreshments at The Cafe, and to enjoy the views some more. But remember, the views are so much better and lots more to see whilst doing the Garden Tour. We also now have The Summit Plantation Tour where you will learn about all the Essential Oils plants grown at The Summit and how we distill the oils which are infused with our range of health & body products sold at The Summit Health & Body Shop as well as via our Online Shop. We hope you shall visit Vanuatu and The Summit again soon.
