“Good for short stays without frills!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2012

As a solo traveler I spent one night here in a single room in transit from Tanna to Noumea. The rate for the room was very competitive at 2500 Vatu per night. The room was basic but clean. Earplugs are a bonus if you are sensitive to noise as the walls are quite thin and the sound of people opening and closing doors in the neighboring rooms can be annoying. The shared facilities were worn but reasonably clean. The “hot shower” didn’t have hot water but I didn’t mind that too much. The garden is nice and gives the whole place a friendly vibe. I had a small problem with the curtain in my room which was promptly and well dealt with by the receptionist. Hibiscus is in walking distance to the center of Vila which made it easy for me to go for a good meal before retiring to my room. There’s a little Chinese-run shop around the corner as well. All in all I was happy with my stay at Vila Hibiscus.

We were looking for cheap accommodation close to the "center". We stayed only 2 nights as we couldn't cope with the mold and the unconfy bed.
Pros: cheap, free wifi, little TV (with 2 channels)
Cons: mold (even around your bed), no pressure & proper hot water in the shower, crappy toilet, dirty towels/linen, no proper kitchen.
And even worst, there are some local shacks just front of the motel, and as the people are burning their waste, the smoke and ash is coming straight to your room!
I wouldn't recommend this motel - we moved next door to the "room with a view" - almost same price for a room, but better and cleaner facilities!

This is probably the cheapest accommodation with basic western standard in Port Vila. I payed 1500 vatu plus 100 vatu tourist tax per night for a so called "dorm bed". In fact it was a bed either in a 2- or 3-bed-room and half of the night I had the room for myself ...
There are shared facilities (even a hot shower, make sure you find it ...) and a kitchen with basic supplies to use. The garden is lovely and well maintained and the staff is friendly. From the Hibiscus Motel it's about 10 minutes to walk to downtown Vila. If you do a trip to an outher island and come back and stay one more night you can leave the luggage that you don't need on the island at the storage room behind the reception for free.
Another nice thing about this place is the free wifi.
There are also affordable ensuite rooms and apartments avaliable.

Room Tip: If you book a dorm bed ask if you can stay in Room 1 or Room 12, because both of them have full rang...

Stayed with a group of 7 for 2 single nights with a 2 week gap, the place is great value we each paid 1500 vatu per night with the following points noted. First room/dorm had a cold shower, and was grubby throughout, the outside grounds were sweep to perfection, it is a shame they don't spend as much time in rooms as out side, the floors could do with a mop, my feet got black walking on them. The second night was a 2 bedroom apartment once again floors were horrible under foot, rubbish under beds and in rubbish bins from previous guests. Shower was broken so you had to perch it up to try and get water in your general direction, but was heated in this room. But 1500 vatu? not bad value I guess (NZ100 for 5 of us)

Room Tip: upstairs 2 bedroom apartment quite roomy.

We stayed here for three weeks in August. Given our tight budget, we were looking for somewhere that was clean, close to town, and which allowed us to cater for ourselves.

For the first few nights of our stay, we were in one of the double rooms with shared bathroom and kitchen (2,200vt/approx $35NZ per night). While pretty basic, this was fine if you just want somewhere to sleep for a couple of nights. Bathrooms were not far from the room, and were all functioning and cleaned pretty regularly.

Because we were staying for a while, the manager upgraded us to more expensive accommodation - a three room 'apartment' with bathroom, bedroom (double bed) and living room. I would definitely recommend this option if you're planning on staying for any length of time. There was plenty of space and everything was clean and comfortable. We had the option of having our room serviced most days. In terms of sleep quality, staying anywhere in Port Vila is likely to be noisy. The Hibiscus wasn't too bad, but if you're looking to get a full 8 hour sleep each night, you'd probably prefer a resort (unless you're a very heavy sleeper).

The cooking facilities were fairly minimalist, but ok to make simple meals (e.g. pasta, steak). Don't expect a microwave or oven, but there is a gas stove top, and if you ask at reception the manager may well give you your own pots to use (as she did for us).

The motel is set over quite a large area, with a very nice garden where it was lovely to sit and enjoy a drink or have dinner. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. It was about a fifteen minute walk along the harbour to the main market in Port Vila, and buses ran past the motel all the time.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Vila Hibiscus. It's a great spot for travellers on a budget - just don't expect any frills.

Room Tip: Apartments with living room and bathroom were very good. (We were in Room 3)
