“Nice and relaxing”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

My wife and I stayed here in late November and had a very relaxing stay. The service was great, good food (although a bit pricey the breakfast is included and was very good). The beach and pool are both great, with free snorkel and fin hire from reception you can swim out to the reef. The rooms are nice and spacious, with excellent showers. The only downsides were the lack of airconditioning - but the fan is pretty good so kept us cool enough - and the loud lizards that make strange bird-like sounds in the middle of the night. They keep the mozzies away though (which is just as well because the mosquito net doesn't fit the bed).

The wifi is pretty good, although the signal was not strong in the room (ours was back from the water, presume those closer to the water had better signal). I'd recommend getting the TelstaBroadband deal, not the hotel one. The TelSat was $40 for 1GB, vs the other one which was based on time - you can also use it on multiple devices.

We had a very nice massage on site and the tour of the village was worthwhile. Overall is was a great place to stay. Would also recommend a trip to the Cascade Falls.

Room Tip: We were in room 38, which was back from the beach, but nice and private. Some of the rooms near the...

Dear Ra F, thanks for the wonderful review. We are very glad you had an excellent time and got to experience many of the sites including Cascades Waterfalls ( very popular). Our WIFI charge is $35 for unlimited use for 7 days which compared to most resorts is incredibly cheap ( $19.95 a day in a Sydney Hotel) We are very glad you enjoyed the food. Being on the beach and with our award winning pitched roof fares (bungalows) we find the cooling breezes are perfect to keep you cool year round. We so hope you come back next year and see us again.
Tropical Regards

A couple of weeks ago my family of four stayed at Surfside Villas (self-catering), about 100 metres down from Breakas. There is a happy arrangement between the two establishments which means that those staying at Surfside can have free access to the facilities of Breakas, including bar, restaurant, pool, non-motorised water equipment and so on.

Overall, we were delighted with Breakas. The meals we had there were really good (particularly the dinner on our last night - that Poulet Fish was to die for!), the staff were unfailingly friendly and polite, and the areas we used, such as the bar and the pool, were always clean and tidy. It was a real pleasure to be there. Sometimes our sons (16 and 18) went on their own and that was fine, too. We were never once made to feel that we were "just visiting from the Villas".

If there is a point or two to be made for improvement, it would be these. Firstly, on our last night we had dinner in the downstairs section of the restaurant and the food was fantastic, our waiter very attentive. There were 4 sets of couples who had tables for two set up on the sand just a little in front of us; the evening was lovely and it all looked very romantic. We were enjoying the music coming from the bar area which was just loud enough for everyone to enjoy without being intrusive. Then, we became aware that a DIFFERENT sound track was being played in the restaurant section where we were. Thinking it was a mistake, we asked our waiter to turn it off as it clashed terribly with the other music we were enjoying from the bar. He said that he couldn't as the manager was adamant that there was to be different music played in the restaurant. What? That just seemed plain silly! It was so discordant and very distracting. It didn't ruin our evening, but it was just downright weird and off-putting. It would stop every now and then, and then start up again. We would have been happy with either selection of music but just not both at once because it meant we couldn't enjoy either! Anyway, as I say, it's a small thing, but it should be brought to someone's attention and sorted out.

Secondly, before we had finished our meal, (which, I might add, was not at all late in the evening), the waiters were already bringing in the tables from the 'honeymoon diners" out on the beach who had by now left. So as we were trying to enjoy our dessert, tables and chairs and dirty tablecloths were being stacked around us. I know that things like this need to be done, but couldn't it have waited until AFTER we'd finished? It did just make us feel a little that we should hurry up and finish as they wanted to get on and close the restaurant up. We hadn't asked to sit in that section; that was where we were put, so perhaps they should have seated us somewhere else to begin with? Again, not a deal-breaker, and it didn't detract from the delicious food, but it could have been done better.

We spent a happy time on the volcano tour to Tanna and, on our trip, was Tony, the father-in-law of Glen, who is in some way connected with improving Breakas Resort. Although we have no experience of how Breakas was before, we were certainly impressed with whatever Glen is currently doing to improve the customer experience overall. Keep it up! We'd love to visit again!

In late November we had the privilege to stay at Breakas resort for 8 nights. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the resort and can say without a doubt it has been our most relaxing holiday to date and it was the perfect way to get away from phones, TV and internet and forget about work! We also chose Breakas for the “kid free” experience. We often sat on the lounges at the front of the bar overlooking the beach or in the “honeymoon” cabana – just to relax and get away from it all.
We stayed in a garden fare which we found very comfortable and suited our needs. The king size bed was a treat! The room was cleaned daily.
We found the staff to be helpful and cheery. Pam the General Manager is an extremely likeable and approachable person. A couple of issues we had were dealt with promptly and effectively. She would do her rounds at breakfast, lunch and dinner and even took the time to sit and have coffee with us at breakfast one morning. She made us feel welcome and special at all times. Nothing was ever too much trouble.
A special mention must go to our favourite staff – Salote, Eamon, Bradley and Becky. Wonderful service every day with a smile. Salote especially went out of her way on her day off to co-ordinate a special visit to Mele village for us. We will never forget our time at Mele. Thank you. :)
Breakfast was included in our package and the variety of fruit, pastries and toast was perfect. We ate at the resort restaurant every single night and the quality and variety was excellent. Best pork belly we have ever had. The seafood platter was enormous!! We found the pricing very reasonable and were quite pleasantly surprised when we got our final food and bar account which included all food, beers, spirits, coffee and cocktails! Each night had a theme and we enjoyed the culture of the Ni-Vanuatu dancing, music and fire show. The group from Santo in particular were fantastic.
Our package also included a scuba experience. We made use of this to get our scuba legs back after a break of 2 years. Special thank you to Jerry of Big Blue. Our 30 minute massage was a wonderful bonus as well.
The snorkelling on the reef out the front of Breakas was a little disappointing but we also went scuba diving in Mele Bay and can say that the reef was not much better even down at 20 metres. Overfishing has depleted the fish life and algae buildup and cyclones have damaged the reef but it was great to see conservation being undertaken in repairing the reef and replanting corals.
We would recommend Breakas to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday. The staff are great, the scenery is beautiful (best sunsets) and the food was lovely. We made new friends with like minded travellers which made for easy relaxing nights by the pool and bar. We will definitely be back. Thank you to Pam and staff for making our time at Breakas NAMBAWAN!!

Everything was getting me down and then my friend and I decided to go away, found a cheesy deal to go stay at breakas and booked our week away the next day. Fantastic. Lovely room, lovely beach, tasty cocktails, lovely staff, and the prices were normal Australian prices which k saw as a good thing as I loathe the kind of discount tourism / colonialism that happens in Bali for example. I read an agatha Christi's novel every day and loved every minute especially when the beautiful tropical rains came in.

Milestone birthday and 3 kids under 5, my partner and I were desperate for a holiday and needed to catch up on 2 years of sleep after our twins were born. Kids spent the week with my parents in Sydney and we headed to Breakas and had the holiday we were in search of...... no kids, awesome service, pool, bar and warm tropical beach that was always welcoming.
The hotel was blissfully quiet, staff were very helpful, free snorkel gear to explore reef and masses of fish so close to the resort, cocktails and more this holiday far exceeded my expectations
Pam the manager was extremely helpful and even gave us a free upgrade to a beachfront fare due to my turning 40! I also just discovered it was also thanks to Summerland Travel in Merimbula for mentioning my birthday upon booking. This was a complete surprise and a great bonus, though we thought the garden fares were also so lovely.
I would revisit Breakas Beach Resort in a heartbeat.
Thank you so much for taking care of us

We stayed at Breakas Resort for rest and relaxation for 9 days, and every night was wonderful. This resort is a beer budget with Champaign taste.

The accommodation was really great, with a traditional bure, they are extremely clean and just what we expected. We had an ocean view room, which had plenty of room. The large bathroom with an outdoor shower, (which we have never experienced before). The verandas are great to sit and watch the sunset and have a quite drink.

The beach at this resort is not great but you can go snorkelling and reef walking. They have lounge chairs and umbrellas along the beachfront which you can use. They also have plenty of double hammocks around the resort if you want to waste time in.

The resort does not have a lot of sporting facilities but it not that sort of resort, as it’s a very relaxing and quiet with no small children it’s a great place to totally relax. There is a beautiful restaurant with excellent food with breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s like eating at a four star restaurant. You can have dinner on the beach, which is very romantic. My husband went fishing and caught some fish which he brought back to the resort and the chief cooked it up for us with out any hesitation, (which was cooked beautifully)

The staffs were all great and very friendly. Everyone was happy to talk to you but would leave you alone if you wanted to be. The front desk staff Solote and Cartia went beyond what they need to do. Pam the manager was very bubbly and made everyone special. She went around to everyone each night to see how there meal was. If you ever had a problems she was very approachable.

Overall I would recommend this resort to anyone. The staff were great, food excellent, accommodation excellent, I would have no hesitate to return for another holiday. As a travel agent this resort would rank up there with the best. We loved our stay there, thank you Pam for the extra touch.

Our louvre-windowed large room provided all the cool breeze we needed and who the hell needs a phone in your room when you are on holidays. Besides our mobiles had full reception if the urge grabbed us. Our sky view shower was sensational and there were endless amounts of hot water, fresh white fluffy towels and a face-washer (in Europe you never get a face washer). The only creepy crawlies I saw was the odd mozzie at dusk and I had coils to guard against bites. My whole sleep pattern changed to one where I slept like a baby the moment my head hit the pillow - the king sized beds are so comfortable.

We are cushy travellers and like our comforts and loved the slow pace of Breakas, enjoying a cocktail before dinner, bruschetta at lunch and a couple of meals there. Sure the food in Vanuatu is not as cheap as you'd expect but that applies to the whole country unless you want to eat at the local market (which we didn't) and there it's very cheap. We ate at several recommended restaurants and they were all of a high standard.

After leaving Breakas to fly to Santo, my dear husband got sick, so what did we do - we flew straight back to Breakas where the manager called the paramedic who was on our door step in minutes with all the equipment required to check him out. The service was impeccable and all our requests were delivered, even when our taxi driver was running a little late for the plane - the reception staff quickly rang to prompt him. The manager (Pam) was exemplary in helping us with the medical stuff but had also personally organised our Santo side-trip.

We stayed in room 47 the first time which is in a quiet spot and with a sea breeze but not on the beach. If you want to be right by the sea, those rooms appear to have a few more treats like an extra mirror and maybe an upholstered chair. We met many people who have returned again and again and I suspect we would be one of those.

Also, there is nightly entertainment with 'native' themes - local dancers, kava, music bands - quite fun if you don't want to leave the resort at all. Breakfast had an excellent selection of all tropical fruits, cereals, milks, toast and vegemite etc. But for hard core diners, you can order a full cooked breakfast for extra cost.

By far the best thing about Breakas apart from the helpful staff is the location and setting. It's just stunning by the beach with an infinity pool to tempt us to do some laps, centrally located where guests congregate and if you want to chat to other guests. We could dine on the beach or inside and there is also a romantic private dinner spot under a canopy where a single table is set for just you and your beau. We even saw a wedding take place which was quite touching, along with a small reception.

BTW - very few resorts in Vanuatu have air conditioning. It's only going to get more humid until after the wet season so choose your travel time carefully if humidity bothers you. We were there in mid November, it rained for 2 days and then perfect sunshine. Free snorkeling gear and beach towels were provided. We hired a car for a day which they organised for us, went on a village tour, enjoyed a Melanesian evening and lay on their beach lounges - a relaxing week.

Room Tip: Away from the restaurant, there are 3 rows of bungalows (fare they call them). 1st - by the sea - m...

Dear OKAussie, what a very thoughtful and lovely review. We are so glad your husband is feeling better and all is well back home. Mrs Pam says hello to you and hope to see you back again next year. We counted 16 returning guests in November which was nice for all the team. We hope that you too become one of the returning Breaks Beach Resort Family. Have an excellent festive season and see you soon.
