Hideaway island is very accessible from anywhere in port vila. The number of different varieties of fish is quite amazing in such a small area. The snorkelling is very accessible just by walking off the shore. The coral is not as good as some places like the Barrier Reef but the sea life is outstanding.
The accessibility makes it suitable for all ages and ranges of swimming ability as it is possible to stay close to the shore and still see a lot. confident swimmers can swim to the outer edge of the reef or there is a boat that goes out as well.
The staff working on the island are friendly and helpful. Lunch prices were reasonable and the burger I had was tasty.
Bus from town should not be more than 300 vatu and if there is no bus waiting when you get off then walk to the end of the short road and you won't wait long for one to come by. Admission is 1000 vatu as it is a national park.
Definitely worth doing and can be for as long or short a time as you like.
