“Quick, cheap and tasty!”
Reviewed November 4, 2013

Port Villa is by no means a cheap city to visit as far as dining out goes. But L'Houstalet Restaurant was well priced, the service was really quick and it tasted good. Cant go wrong. Dined there twice on a 6 night trip! Free bread and water, cheap beer (350 vatu) and fruit punch (350 vatu). Top notch!

“Good food but seems past its best”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Food was pretty good but a bit over-garliced. Entrees were better than the mains. Good selection of French wines.

The decor looks like it's not changed in the 40 years it has been open and it starting to look a bit worn. Service was OK, more French curt than friendly Vanuatuan.

“Good place”
Reviewed October 25, 2013

We had dinner here a couple of times and it is my favourite in Port Vila. Good food and service

Idiosyncratic layout but really pleasant proprietor and good staff

House red and white wine is rough but reasonably priced by Vanuatu standards

French Onion Soup...excellent
Coconut Crab Soup...quite nice
Steak with pommes Lyonnaise...delightful
Bat...interesting, but not to be repeated
Lobster omlette...goodish
Profiteroles...terrible

I would eat there tonight if I were back in Port Vila

“Old fashioned service, good food”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

This is an iconic restaurant in Port Vila. Service was a bit overwhelming with staff lined up wactching us eating! Food was good though. House wine a bit rough. Old fashioned atmosphere.

“Best place to eat in Port Vila”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

We first ate here 8 years ago on the recommendation of a local expat and thought it was fantastic. We have just returned from Vanuatu for the 5th time and have eaten here every time we've been in Port Vila.
Fantastic relaxed place with great food.
Highly recommend to everyone for a quick, cheap but lovely meal.
