I have to start by saying i did love this place even though things didnt always go the way we would have hoped but that it part of it charm. Its a local owned and run place so those are the standards you get.

It is a lovely little hideaway down the end of a 5km unsealed road which means it doesn’t get any passing trade or very busy. Occasionally when the cruise ships come in they do take people for the lunch time period as this is also a fantastic spot for snorkelling (free snorkel hire for customers). There are an amazing amount of different varieties of fish, corals and anemones. Unfortunately there is also the “Crown of thorns" starfish present so the corals may not be around for much longer. They will also loan you kayaks for free too.

The couple who run this place are lovely - Lulu and Christine. We felt at times like we were staying with our granny she was so sweet and Lulu plays the guitar for you when you arrive with some welcome songs. Wonderful. Eric and Vince are their 2 right hand men and they are cool too.

Our bungalow was right on the water front with our own terrace for sitting on.
When we arrived in our room everywhere was covered in tropical flowers so it looked lovely too. There was a musty smell too but it is a very humid island so there probably isn’t much they can do to help that without installing AC.

Our bungalow was huge for just 2 people. It had 2 double beds (one in its own room) and a further single and a futon in the lounge so could accommodate at least 6. There were 2 large patio windows which could open up and lots of windows for letting the air through. However none of these had mozzi screens on so at night time the place was jumping! None of them shut very well either.

The bed was comfy though and everywhere was fairly clean although the whole place could do with repainting and freshening up. We had a fridge and a kettle which worked fine but of the 3 ceiling fans in the bungalow, only the ones in the bedroom areas worked but only on one speed.

The bathroom was very basic and seems to be where the worst of the musty smell came from. It was clean but just looked worse because it too could really do with an upgrade now and something was leaking badly. There was a shower but no hot water (even when the sun shone). it was a 8 squirt shower at best.

It is a little way out of town and takes about 30 mins by car to get there - mainly because of the poor state of the road they have to drive so slowly. But Vince will take you there for £1 per person each way. Or where ever you need to go.

If you book any trips with them, do ensure you get proper confirmation it is running as we only found out at breakfast one morning that Christine had decided not to run our trip we had booked for that day and had taken the day off instead! very frustrating.

They will do laundry for you but that is very expensive - £12 a load. That’s ok if you don’t mind paying but there are laundrettes in the town which cost £4 including powder if you don’t mind taking it yourself.

The food was extremely limited. no menu but anything with chips was about it.
Except curry which i have to say was wonderful
Very limited for vegetarians - no choice with chips (chicken/burger/fish) but when i asked if i could have egg and chips - sorry no eggs!

Breakfast was lovely - some days - some days not. I resorted to cornflakes every day but with no one really paying attention to the store cupboard - they ran out too and were not replaced until i mentioned they had all gone.
The fruit plate was lovely and thoroughly enjoyed every day.

Would we stay here again? probably not. For Port Vila this is good value accommodation but by spending just a fraction more you can get better run places closer to the town.

....unless of course you are looking for the un-touristy, remote escape feel of Tara Beach.

Room Tip: all the bungalows face the sea - the beach is by the restaurant a 1 minute walk away

Halo Jodi

Tankiu tumas for staying with us at Tara Beach for 4 nights ( 2 nights book through travel agent and you extended 2 nights) and for the constructive and helpful review. We have definitely taken your suggestions on board and are working hard in 2015 to give our future guests an even better experience than before.
We started to upgrade our lovely oceanfront villas one by one and these are just the first of many new things on the way.
We do hope you and Bryan can come back soon to enjoy.
Have a great year and we are looking forward to welcome you both back to our Little Slice of Paradise.
Tropical Regards,
Eric

If you are after remote and somewhere quite then this is your place.

The room, or more like villas, can sleep up to 7 all for the same price.

All rooms/villas have a sea view.

The staff are lovely, Christine and Lolo are both relaxed and helpful.

Only issues we real had was the road was so bumpy it was unbearable.

However the snorkeling from the beach over the coral was just amazing, and crystal clear

We stayed in the Tara Beach Resort for one week and it was just excellent. The staff is so friendly and helpful to spent the best time of your life on vanuatu. The reef just in front of the Restaurant is the nicest one we´ve been on Efate. The Bungalows are basic and not the newest one´s. So wasn´t our fan working and we haven´t had warm water all the time. But you won´t need it with this temperatur here anyway:) There´s a small beach and you can also enjoy the gardens. Everything is very clean.

A great place to stay in Vila. When I arrived at the airport I was picked up by a very nice young man, Thomas. Return transfers only $10. The place was quiet, friendly with a lovely waterfront veiw. Clean & tidy. It's not too far from town and for only a few dollars Thomas will drop you off to anywhere you need to go. Christine was lovely organising breakfast for only a few dollars and Eric the Manager always tried to help. Great way to get to know the people of Vanuatu. I'll definitely be back!!!

We had a lovely family holiday here for one week. The Bungalows are comfortable and perfect for a family of five. The bathroom was a little tired but clean, we had intermittent hot water and a shower that tended to leak onto the floor. The gardens were lovely and a nice place to spend the day. Tara beach is off the beaten track, but this is a feature we enjoyed, and it is only a short drive into Port Vila. Christine is always happy to organise transport and any tours you may be interested in. The menu was limited at Tara Beach and so we chose to eat out most nights. We enjoyed the Melanesian night with lovely food, music and local dancing. The snorkelling only 20 metres from the front door was fantastic and enjoyed by all the family. The walk up to the Summit was well worth it. This is a friendly, family run place, while it could do with some updating I would still recommend Tara Beach for a comfortable family holiday that is affordable in a beautiful country.
