If you love sushi and teppanyaki you will love Wild Ginger. Whilst sitting at the teppanyaki bar you can watch the sushi being made which seemed more like an artform than food preparation. We ordered two sushi rolls which I have to say are the best I have ever had (and I eat a lot of sushi). We tried beef, lamb and seafood teppanyaki. The beef and lamb were extremely tender and delicious. The seafood was fresh and and the prawns were fabulous. The total bill was about $A60.00 per head including champagne which for the quality of food was reasonable. The sushi was a bit pricey compared to Australia but it was well worth it. The restaurant had a great atmospher and the service was excellent. If we had more time we would have returned to Wild Ginger.

Wild Ginger at Le Lagon Resort. Is an Asian fusion restaurant, options include sushi, teppenaki, wok dishes.

Entree: Once again we had the salt & pepper squid 950Vatu NZ$14.60 and prawn with a beer and coconut batter 1400Vatu NZ$21.50. These both were wonderful, the squid batter was light and crispy just the right amount of seasoning with a dash of lemon. The prawns were large with a sweet chilli dip.

Mains: Pad Thai Noodles with prawns and chicken 2200Vatu NZ$38.80. Poulet fish, a local fish, 2500Vatu NZ$38.45. The Pad Thai was spicy with fine chopped prawn and chicken, these could have been left in larger chunks, tasty though. The fish had the consistency of meaty fish, like groper, was served on yellow rice and wrapped in bok choy. The fish was a little overcooked, just enough to make it a touch dry.

Two tusker beers to start 1000Vatu NZ$15.40 and a bottle of NZ Church Rd Sav Blanc 3400Vatu NZ$52.30.

The prices are to be expected at a 5 star resort, the service was a little slow to start, but once we got going was fine. We had a table that looked out across the floodlit lagoon.

Total bill 11450Vatu plus 3% credit card fee 11793Vatu NZ$181.40. The evening meal was enjoyable in a nice resort restaurant you could have been anywhere in the world. Nothing to define it as being in Vanuatu.

WIld Ginger is in the exclusive and lovely Le Lagon resort 5 mins drive from Port Vila township. Arriving there we were jealous of the place and wished we'd booked to stay there instead of where we had chosen.
The restaurant is in a lovely setting, modern, bright and the staff are fabulous.
The menu is more Asian/Fusion than Japanese as we'd been led to beleive (although they did serve Sashimi and Teppanyaki) but every dish we had was fantastic and the wine list was extensive. Try the beef in Vanuatu, I have no idea what they do to it in preparation but every time we ate it no matter where, it was so tender it melted in your mouth.
As usual eating out in Vanuatu comes at an incredible price, but for a five star dining experience you really can't go wrong here.

Wild Ginger was by far the nicest restaurant in Vila. The decor and restaurant design is very professionally done, with great service and friendly staff. Kali the restaurant manager (actually from Fiji) is fantastic along with the local staff making this a memorable dinning experience in a modern restaurant but a genuine Vanuatu feel. Can't say enough about the friendly staff, Julie, John, Anna....and others!!!!
The Vanuatu beef is a MUST try, along with the stir fry Lobster!!
Did not get a chance to try the Teppanyaki however have heard it is fantastic. They have also just started Sunday Brunch, with a traditional style brunch menu, although limited has a very nice selection.
A must try restaurant when visiting Port Vila and even if your not staying at Le Lagon, the restaurant is open to resort visitors as well.
