“Not what it use to be”

Staying here this week for work in Honiara, this hotel has certainly seen better days. Staff definately need the boot up the backside for attention to customer service, no one seems to care or want to even help. Captians Bar is a disgrace no cooling that works properly, lack of choice of drinks, and a definate lack of service, staff more interested in sitting in the corner watching TV rather than serving the paying customers at the bar. Resturant attached to the hotel, well lets just say the less said the better when it comes to this place for dining. This was once a great hotel, it needs new management and somone with vigour to drive it and return it back to its former glory of the premier hotel in Honiara.

If you'd like to be located mid way between the city centre and the airports, Pacific Casino Hotel is an excellent choice. Good idea to re-confirm price of hotel room, before arrival. If you are charging meals and drinks to your room, keep all receipts (you may need to double check bill). Rooms vary in quality (from very nice to basic). I stayed at the Pacific Casino Hotel on 3 occasions. Most staff are very nice and helpful. Walking from the Hotel is not recommend (too far in the tropical humidity), however taxis are readily available as are the bus stops ($3 SOL will take you one way anywhere in the city). Checking in and out can be lengthy. If you have an early morning checkout, recommend you pay the night before. The in-house laundry service is very good (just double check that all returned clothing items are yours). Restaurant staff are very friendly. The quality of the food is variable. Dining/having a drink outside the restaurant offers a great view of the harbour, however be warned that there is a resident cat colony (with offers a pungent aroma). On the hotel complex, you also have walking access to several other restaurants (including an amazing Korean) and the casino. The pool looks amazing on the brochure, a little different in reality. The water is so refreshing, however the pool area offers little privacy from onlooking staff and nearby restaurant diners (to avoid unwanted attention, if you're a woman - stick to board shorts and rash tops). If you'd like to exchange some money - the Pacific Casino Hotel offered the best rate in town to exchange $AU to $SOL.

Room Tip: Any room around the hotel's upstairs bar could be noisy. Personally, I'd avoid any room upst...

Too many chinese prostitutes, security dont keep the riffraff out. Crooked as well- negotiated a price inc drinks then they charged fir drinks! As for room it was infested with malaria mosquitoes. Outsude at poolside is overrun with feral cats and prostitutes from the onsite brothel. Yuck.

Everything worked - hot water shower worked 4 out of 5days in a country where 80% of homes do not have access to clean water - everything was old and worn-down. Still, the staff are friendly. Internet is expensive (25 Euro for 250 MB over 7 days) but it was pretty fast. Take bus to center (0.30 euro, 3 Sol dollars) or walk in 35 minutes. Korean restaurant next door is excellent.

OK for 1 night. 1 small room with a small double bed and a shower that had seen better days! Air con was a bit smelly and noisy plus afew night critters flew in and flew out!!
Just as well as this was only a stop over to the Islands.
Reception wasn't the best! Alot of people buzzing about but really only 1 person who seemed to know what was happening!
We kinda new what to expect so our spectations were not high! We didn't know that Pacific Casino Hotel caters not only for travellers but for locals also. We met a lady who came for a holiday 6 years ago and has never left!
The room overlooked the pool and a chineese restautant. I totally recommend the chineese for dinner. The owner is also the chief and is great! You can't beat the sweet and sour pork.YUMO!
We only had a total of 2 nights in Honiara. Next time we come we will wing it and book when we arrive. We felt totally safe and we just loved what we did see.
The 1st morning we went for a 2 hour walk. We were amazed at the ships just parked up on the locals sections. The people were really warm and friendly.
Take a heap of water cause you will need it!

Room Tip: Book the rooms overlooking the pool. Might be abit noisy at night but the view is better than the vi...

There aren't a lot of places to stay in Honiara and this about middle of the road.

A/C worked, bathroom needed a good clean, staff were friendly and very helpful when asked. The dining room needs to be seen to be believed as it is decorated with large abstract tropical murals on all walls as well as a huge Grecian themed frieze.

We spent one night there on our way elsewhere and for that it was fine. If I was staying longer, I'd want something more comfortable.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, budget comfort but good value for money long term. Ask for rooms along water which are newer and are fully tiled, have separate lounge rooms, and overlook ocean. Restaurant has great meals at cost.
