“Well worth a visit!”
Reviewed July 8, 2013

The central markets in around the world make for both an interesting local experience and a place to buy cheap food, flowers, clothing and souvenirs.

My favourite things to buy were fresh flowers to decorate my hotel rooms and to walk back drinking a fresh coconut.

The markets have a great selection of locally grown vegetables, fruits, meats and seafoods. Go early seafood - though freshly caught, it sits in the hot sun.

Souvenir are cheaper here that in the boutique stores - all sorts of jewellery (including illegal tortoise shell items), strands of pearls, sarongs and carvings are available.

“Great experience!”

Great to see the local catch, as well as handicraft. Worth a visit, and right near other shopping areas

“Great variety - get amonst it!”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

I worked in the Sols for six months and the markets is a great way to get into daily life for the Islanders. Lots of local produce, coconut and pawpaw is always a good choice but try the slippery cabbage and other things you won't find at home. Wonderful coconut oil as well. Lots of little souvenirs to take home as well. Have a good browse and mix with the locals, you can't go to the Sols and stay in the hotel grounds. The people are so friendly and warm :)

“love the Honiara central market”
Reviewed August 15, 2012

Love the market, lived there practically every day, plenty of fresh vegies and fruit, fish is worth buying and bbqing it. Lived on all the fresh produce, have a walk around the back and meet the local firewood choppers and leaf hut makers. They are such hard workers and work bloody hard for their daily food etc. They have to get there at about 4am to get a spot, i was there for the F.O.P.A and saw them arriving one morning. No security so be careful. Dont be a gross ugly tourist and go click happy with your camera, before asking, its obnoxious and rude, exactly what you dont want them to think about you.

“Great local atmosphere”
Reviewed June 4, 2012

The Central Market is a must see in Honiara, stalls selling everything from fruit and vegetables, to fish and interesting mementos of the Islands. The local people in the market were so friendly and helpful and, provided we asked, didnt mind being photographed. Go early in the morning to see the wonderful array of flowers. At the back of market behind the Fish stalls is the dock - more photograph opportunities.
