A beautiful upstairs room -it was secure and we had a partial ocean view. The staff could not have been more helpful, The aircon was great and at night we had a lovely breeze flowing through. As we were up on a ridge we were safe from any tsunamis

Date" 3 - 12 March, 2009
Destination - Honiara, Guadacanal - Solomon Islands.

This was my husband's and my first trip overseas, and we decided to go to Solomon Islands. I had met quite a few Solomons in 2008 whilst they were in Australia. We were treated like royalty.

We were the first guests at a brand new apartment block - Sanalae Apartments owned by Hedley Toata and Doreen Tinga. The apartment was furnished consisting of a queen size bed, kitchette with the necessary equipment to cook your own food), bathroom/toilet, lounge with TV/internet, airconditioning, private balcony and view overlooking the ocean. The rooms were serviced every day and anything we needed was always addressed. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. They even supplied us with a 4WD and a tour guide to take us around Honiara. The apartment administrator - Francis Dara along with his father Francis Deve were at the airport to greet us off the plane to take us to the apartments. I had heard of other people staying at other places in Honiara and having the staff go through thier belongings, I can honestly say that we had no problems at Sanalea Apartments. The staff of Sanalae apartments are very respectful and friendly. We arrived on Tuesday the 3rd and on the Friday they had the offical opening of the apartments. My husband and I were one of their offical guests and were given shell necklaces as a gift for being the first guests.

We both found Honiara and Guadacanal to be a very lovely place, the war museum was very interesting so was the relics left from WW2. One thing I did find interesting was their beaches, you have to pay the land owners to actually get to the beach anywhere along the coast, be prepared to pay anything from $25 to 50 Solomon Dollar to be allowed to go onto the beach. But considering the exchange rate between Australia and the Solomon Islands this was not problem. The money helps the landowners to provide basic facilities - toilet and tables and chairs to sit on as well as paying a cleaner to keep the shore clean and tidy. I can tell you a lot more of our experiences of Solomons if you would like to know more just email. We plan to return to Honiara in the near future and visit the provinces of Solomons as we only had 10 days there and it just was not enough time to explore and sightsee Guadacanal let alone the rest of the provinces. I think that you would need a least one month to see and experience Solomons properly. But we both enjoyed our first overseas holiday in the Solomons.
