“Great location and overall very nice!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013

My husband and I recently stayed at the SeaPassion with our daughter who is serving in the Peace Corp in Airai. We had difficulty booking the hotel on line so my daugher did it in person.
She chose it because of the location and price. It is much more reasonably priced than the other "resorts" and has most of the same ammenities including it's own pool, beach and docks. The room came with breakfast included for $244/night. Since there were 3 of us, we got a large corner room on the top floor with a balcony which was fantastic - plenty of room and great views. The room was equipped with a refrigerator and a very large bathroom. It was very clean and the staff very helpful. We could walk into Koror and to a couple of local restaurants including Kramers, Rock Island Cafe and Drop off. Also, easy walk to Sam's Tours which we highly recommend. There are also many convenience stores nearby for snacks and drinks. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 5th floor - it is quiet and most of the rooms have lovely balconies with great...

Sea Passion Resort Palau
We spent 12 nights at the Sea Passion while scuba diving with Neco Marine ( see separate review for Neco). First impressions of the Sea Passion as you enter the lobby is a nicely kept area with efficient check in. We rented a mountain view room as the hotel was fairly full and only had mt. view or honeymoon suites available. The mountain view was substantially less money so we decided to take the risk. Room 322 was located one room away from the main road but the noise didn't bother us. But, the musty smelling room was awful. We decided to stick it out knowing we had paid less, but each night laying down on the bed the smell from the filthy carpet kept wafting into our bed. The mt. View from this room was a half of a balcony overlooking an ugly roof down below. No room for chairs on any balconies, even the ocean view rooms. Next impression was the breakfast buffet. It was amazing. Clean room set up with tablecloths, napkins and a huge variety of good food. Salads, meats, cereals, waffles, toast, fruit, cakes, an omelette bar, and Asian hot dishes that were very good. We ended up eating a big breakfast each morning then went out for a small dinner elsewhere each evening. The staff at the buffet were always friendly, clean and respectful. Wifi was OK in the lobby, breakfast and dinner areas as well as out near the small beach. It wasn't fast wifi but OK for email. It sometimes took 10 minutes to send a picture. The small beach was usually empty and quiet with a nice cove to swim or snorkel in. The beach chairs are wooden and we checked out beach towels each time to sit on making them bearable. . The beach and whole lobby area were very clean and comfortable. But, after 8 nights going up to our stinky room we finally decided to complain to the management. We were told the only room available to move to was the honeymoon suite and it was more money. We told them we deserved to pay the same and should be moved after enduring the dirty room for 8 nights. So, the manager let us move for the same price for the remaining 4 nights to room 310. What a relief when we checked into the newer, cleaner room. It had 180 degree ocean view with a seating area and king bed. Huge bathroom too. Much cleaner but the carpet was still not really clean. It smelled 100% better though so we were very happy. If we ever return we will definitely pay extra for the ocean view room and request one away from the main road. The "safe" area for your passports etc was behind the front desk, always manned by 1-3 people. It felt comfortable leaving our valuables in the individual lock box that we had the key for. The staff at the front desk were the most delightful people ever. We always felt welcomed with their smiling faces and quiet, respectful attitude. We would stay again at Sea Passion because the location is less than a 5 minute walk to the dive dock at Neco Marine where we found the land based dive operation to be very good. I took lots of pictures around the resort and would be happy to share.

A friend booked this hotel for our weeklong dive trip last month. Upon arrival, we were not impressed. It was dark, so we couldn't see the beautiful grounds. The entrance was not all that. And then they put us in a "Mountain View" room. It was small and dark, like the rooms in a cheap motel.

Next morning, we woke up to the "Mountain View". It was the hillside 30 feet behind our room through a smallish window. It's looking bad! Our friends' room was only $30 more, and it has ocean view, so we went down and asked for the upgrade. Since the room was booked through the dive shop, we had to get the upgrade through the shop as well.

After a few calls, we were moved to room 310. It was at least double the size of our other room; it had big windows on two sides with ocean and pool views, and it has a balcony. The stay was a lot better!

We dove each of the first 5 days, and the breakfast was good. It has a bit of everything (even some I wouldn't consider breakfast item). We only ate at the lobby restaurant once for dinner. It was good, but there are so many options around the hotel and in town, there is really no reason to eat at the hotel.

There were some small markets down the street from the hotel. After we finished the drinks we brought, we went down the market and re-stocked. Since we had a couch and extra chairs in our room, we had our own happy hour in the room each day after the dives. One day we decided to get some sushi from the in house Japanese restaurant for happy hour. That was a mistake. Even though they were open, they weren't ready to take the order. When we got the food, they weren't that good.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The grounds were clean and pretty. It was overall a very nice stay.

Room Tip: Rooms 310 and 410 are nice rooms. 588 has a larger balcony. There are other bigger rooms on the 5t...

The location of the hotel is peaceful, and a taxi ride to "city center" is no more than $5 each way. It is within walking distance to Drop-off Bar, Kramer's Cafe, PRR, Dolphins Pacific ticket center, Sam's Tours, Neco Marine, etc. There a couple of little marts nearby if you want to buy snacks and drinks. The private lagoon was a bonus...there are several giant clam near the hotel bar, pretty awesome! It has its own dock so most of our water tours were able to pick us up and drop us off right at our hotel dock.

We stayed at room 410 for eight nights on our recent trip to Palau. This room is a corner room (180-degree oceanview romantic/honeymoon room) on the 4th floor. It's in a small hallway, away from the elevator/stairs. There's a separate sofa seating area, great for a relaxing afternoon reading session. The only "negative" thing I have to say is that there's no real privacy between the bathroom and the living/bedroom area. Wooden blinds separate one wall, and the bathroom door has similar design (for better ventilation). So, if you are here as a newly dating couple or with your friends, it's kind of embarrassing when someone does the number two...minor details.

I booked the rooms by contacting World of Diving (we did not dive with them), and they were able to help us secure great room rates, better than those posted online or directly through Sea Passion.

Although WiFi is only available at the lobby ($5 for entire stay), we were actually able to get some weak signal in our room right next to the TV, yay! The water pressure and temperature were both great, but the bathroom was little bit dark.

Staff is amazing. I told the front desk that we needed more toilet paper and within 30 seconds they delivered it to our room. Complimentary breakfast was alright, but who can complain about free food?! :)

Side note: I would recommend avoiding rooms on the 2nd floor. My friends stayed at room 210, right next to the massage place. The entire floor hallway is super dark. The Japanese Restaurant (Umi - would NOT recommend, they messed up our orders on two separate visits) is on the same floor...plus the breakfast/banquet area is right below this floor...so their room smelled like sesame oil and food the entire day. Plus, on weekends, the hotel sometimes throws karaoke or parties so my friends could not sleep a couple nights.

My wife and I spent 7 nights at the Sea Passion whilst visiting Palau on a dive trip.

There is a lot of potential, but it seems to be a bit let down by the management not running the place very well, not providing information on the facilities available etc.

The hotel is situated about 1 mile from the centre of Koror, about a $7 cab ride. There are several restaurants within walking distance if you don't wish to venture into town.

The hotel has it's own private beach and swimming pool.

There are nice touches such as beach towels available for guests, safety deposit boxes behind reception, and the reception staff could not be more helpful, especially Judy.

The rooms are very well furnished. The beds are extremely comfortable and the en suite bathroom is well equipped with a great shower. There is a fridge and TV in the room.

The buffet style breakfast available was fine, although a little basic.

There is also a lovely gift shop in the hotel foyer, which is good for souvenirs, although it is worth while taking a taxi into central Koror where a wide range of shops are available for a more extensive shopping experience.

The hotel lets itself down in a few ways;
1. The bar; in all the time we were there they hardly had any beer, maybe the odd tin of Bud Light, and no wine. The lack of drinks made us wander outside the hotel to find another place to drink, which is a shame as the bar is well located by the beach.
2. The bar had no menu for the cocktails available, it was only when we found the western restaurant (more later) that we found a menu of the cocktails available in the bar.
3. The bar has a happy hour, though we only discovered this on our last day.
4. There is only a basic list of facilities the hotel offers in the room. For example we had to ask at reception if we could get clothes laundered, which was entirely possible. Surely this type of service should be advertised?
5. The western restaurant - We'd been staying in the hotel 5 days before we even knew this existed. We were not alone in this; we got to know an Australian group well, and they were also blissfully unaware that there was a western restaurant. This was a real shame as the food in the western restaurant is very good. There is a Japanese restaurant as well that is well publicised.

All in all the Sea Passion has the potential to be a very lovely hotel. It just needs running more professionally, which would have made our stay more enjoyable.

Nice hotel. Big comfy rooms with really good beds. The hotel mainly caters for Japanese which is clearly seen in the fact that everything is in Japanese with an English translation below. They have an ok Japanese restaurant in the hotel. This is also one of the few Koror hotels with a small beach.
The breakfast is rather uninspiring and again shows the amount of Japanese guests. Lots of hot Japanese dishes but nothing as simple as yoghurt which you can get if you ask for it.

They also offer Thai massage and the sign claims that all the women working come from Thailand. They don’t they are all from the Philippines.

If you want to stay close to Koror this is for sure a good option. If you decide to go for one of the deluxe ocean view rooms then ask for rooms that overlook the pool. That way you will be further from the road and closer to the lagoon.

What I love most about this hotel is its location. About 5-10 mins from the so-called CBD area of Koror by cab, but just a stone throw away from our dive shop Neco Marine. Every morning we left our hotel at 7:55am and a short walk will bring us right on time at 8:00 at the dock of our dive shop.
Rooms are spacious and the bathroom although basic has what you need and is kept clean by housekeeping everyday. No complaints there. Shower area is HUGE - perfect for washing diving gear and drying stuff.
Having read all the comments about the room carpet I didn't trust it at all, but it did looked alright to me. Didn't look too soiled.
Our bed is big and linen clean and crisp, however the mattress is too soft for my back.
Our corner room has a lovely view of the private beach and lagoon - no complaints there either!
There' satellite TV although it can be a bit temperamental but you get all the usual channels eg AXN, CNN, NGC, discovery channel, when it's working.
Breakfast is basic, the food mediocre but edible. Sometimes their stir fry is alright! Being on a low carb diet myself I am happy with the eggs and chicken stir fry. Coffee is awful! But they do provide some packet coffee in your room which might be a touch better. Bread selection is wide - they have bagel, white bread, what it appears to be pumpkin bread sometimes, some chocolate swirl bread some days - interesting but I haven't tried any so can't comment.
Staff at the hotel are friendly and I can't fault the housekeeping.
Internet speed is SLOW, ESP at night when there are 20 other people trying at the same time at the lobby. I find trying to check my emails during breakfast works much better - it still takes a while to load each email but at least you get it!
For the first few nights we just ate dinner at the Japanese restaurant on the 2nd floor. Prices are reasonable and the food decent. When you add the cab fare going to town and back the deal at the hotel is not too bad.
After realising that Kramer cafe is within walking distance from the hotel we just ate there every meal from then on. It's only a 10 min walk but try to bring a small torch at night.
Overall this hotel suits our purpose in Palau and we have our best dive trip ever in Palau.
For divers I find this hotel adequate and actually enjoyable to stay in. And I will certainly stay there again.
Wouldn't stay there if you have in mind a luxurious holiday with 5-star services and facilities.
