We did the snorkel trip. What a great experience! Shannon was professional, patient and enthusiastic. It was safe, fun and easy to manage, even with some mobility problems. The dolphins were amazing and there was very little risk - either to us or the dolphins! An absolute must if you're in Niue end worth every cent.

We went out on the swim with dolphins snorkelling trip with Shannon. Getting our gear was quick and efficient (and they had a wetsuit that fit me perfectly, which often isn't the case!) and the boat was a comfortable size for the trip. The only thing that took the edge off the trip was a lack of dolphins! We spent most of the time looking for them, and when we found a solo one he swam too far away from the boat for us to be able to see him in the water. Being towed alongside the boat was hard work, but Shannon stopped immediately when I signalled my bad shoulder had had enough. We spent the rest of our time snorkelling outside the reef at Snake Gully and got good guidance on where to find the best fish, corals and snakes (or how to avoid them, in my case). The water clarity was extraordinary and the water temperature very comfortable.

Dives were fun but not "south pacific amazing", we did two easy but interesting cave dives, not much coral on the west coast as it was all smashed by cyclone Heta 2004. Apparently there are healthy corals on the south coast, which we didn't dive on. Plenty of snakes, and many kinds of tropical fish but not in masses as elsewhere. Dolphins and turtle sighting from the boat though.

Diving is generally a heavy sport, lugging all gear, but not here! Their inflatable boats on trailers were all packed with tanks etc already at the dive shop and then winched in the water at the wharf. Great stuff.
Owners were very meticulous, our certifications was duly requested, examined and recorded, probably the first time that has happened to me anywhere!

Hanging on to a rope on the side of an inflatable whilst being towed in pursuit of flipper with an unguarded propeller meters from your toes is in my opinion dangerous. Could so easily be avoided by using a stirrup rope

Hi Hugh
I think these sort of suggestions would be best received directly to us, rather than the www! But thank you none the less. Unfortunately a stirrup rope would be impractical as we would be forever adjusting it, as well as it would not have the ability to stabilise the person whilst in the water. It would also create more of a hazard, as if the person was to let go of the boat, a stirrup would keep them next to or under the boat, as opposed to letting them drift free. As with all activities, customers have the option to do it or not, and we of course do not pressure people to get in if they are uncomfortable. We also have a briefing on shore, so any questions that arise about safety can be addressed before going out on the water. The boat itself idles at a speed that is comfortable for the person in the water, and the guide has a hand on the gears in case of someone letting go. Also as they are 5m boats, and we position the in-water people at the bow end, there is more than 3m clearance on the average person.
This tour has been running for 13years, the same way, and has a 100% safety record, and a satisfaction record nearly the same. It is unfortunate you did not enjoy the trip, but we do need to remember they are wild animals not circus animals, and we have to fit in to their encounter.

Appreciate the feedback. Best Fishes.

We booked a ten dive package with Nuie Dive and loved every minute of it. Everything you have heard about the water clarity it true. The limestone caves and caverns were wonderful, very different from anything we have dived before. Sea snakes were in abundance and fascinating too, especially for Richard! Thank you to Shannon, Krystal and Richard for a great experience.
