“A delightful Niuean find”

We chose Stone Villas largely because of their positive Trip Advisor reviews and our preference for non-resort style accommodation, spending a week here in late August. As others have stated Ida & Albert and their family are delightful hosts. A very nice touch was the welcoming bottle of wine and fresh drinking coconuts (along with opening lessons which ensured we returned home with all our fingers intact). They also make a point of chatting to all guests at the end of their stay, to check if there is anyway they could improve their service. As an example of their unobtrusive attention we left washing out drying whilst we were out and it pelted down rain. We arrived "home" expecting a sopping mess only to find the washing had been put up on the balcony and was dry. Fakaaue lahi Ida!!

The location was tops for us with most of Alofi's restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. So too is the police station (so no excuse for not getting your pretty souvenir licence), shopping centre (check out the art gallery and deli) and Post Office. Swanson's supermarket is a little further away but still walkable if you wish. Then again, you have a car (without any tedious rental agreements to deal with) so bulkier shopping is no problem anyhow. You are also very close to the location of the thrice weekly market where you may find wonderful paw paws (papaya),bananas, cakes and, at the Friday night market, fresh cooked fish parcels which you can tuck into straight away. Be quick though, many items were only available in limited numbers.

Other places within easy walking distance are the Information Centre, Sir Robert's wharf (great spot to catch a breeze and watch fish and the focus of a great deal of interesting activity if the monthly freighter arrives during your visit) and several churches. Do consider attending the Ekalesia church near the wharf where the hymn singing is stunningly beautiful.

Our stay was in the very private rear villa-number 2. Villa 1 is closer to the entrance and is a little less private but has a more useable balcony area. The tiled rooms are delightfully cool, fully insect screened and with very effective timber louvers (not a piece of window glass to be found). The bed was very roomy and comfortable and we also found the couch very good for the mandatory mid-afternoon siesta. The walk in shower was given a very thorough work out and the hot water never failed. All other items in the very well equipped kitchen and laundry worked without trouble.

All in all a very pleasant experience and one we are already looking forward to repeating.

PS Watch out for the wood pigeons early in the morning

“Great accommodation in beautiful location”
Reviewed August 25, 2013 for a stay in August 2013

We loved Niue and enjoyed our stay at Stone Villas. Owners Ida and Albert were very welcoming and have two clean and spacious villas, located in Alofi, near to shops and restaurants. We had a very relaxing week, ate lots of fish and want to go back.

“No better place on Niue”
Reviewed July 23, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

It's seriously beautiful, sparkling clean inside cool local stone. Add oh, so comfortable and quiet, in a garden setting 5 minutes walk from all Alofi township has to offer and you have a haven in the truest sense. If Niue's people are part of its treasure, then Ida, Albert and family have made a perfect addition with Stone Villas. Their presence is unobtrusive, their local knowledge prodigious and nothing is too much trouble for this warm, generous couple, their children and friends. All those little extras that make this home away from home stand apart at a cost that is great value for money. It's a perfect balance for anyone wanting the total real -thing Niue experience. 'Thank you Ida & Albert' seems inadequate somehow. You made Niue unforgettable!

“Perfect couple’s accommodation for a wonderful destination”

Niue is a great Pacific destination for a total winter R&R holiday. The Stone Villa's cottages (2) are really convenient (central) but totally private. Walking distance to the sea, most eating places on the island and to the only cafe with espresso coffee end of the street. Stone Villa is fully appointed for the self catering option, nice big frig/freezer, small oven/grill and microwave, everything you would expect in a well appointed kitchen. The well stocked breakfast "starter pack" included everything most would need. The accommodation package includes a car for private use for the week, essential if you are going to fully explore the island's beauty spots. We were collected from the airport and the ability to leave the car at the airport on departure certainly made everything easy and efficient.
Ida and Albert (the hosts) are lovely folks and we were well looked after. Everything they say and show on their web site is as good as it looks.
If this is important for you we found that the free Wi-fi (wireless) operated (emails arrived, web sites opened) but service was very slow daytime. The plus ofthis was we ignored it and got on with holidaying!

Perfect personalised service from the airport pick up and orientation to the generousity of supplying local delicacies. We stayed with our 4 year old for 2 weeks which is the right amount of time to do all the fantastic walks and snorkeling spots. We found albert and Ida to be very good at letting us have privacy but still being very attentive. The villa was spotless everytime we returned this a feat we had never experienced before and really did not expect.
We cant wait to come back to Niue later this year for a short stay without the little man to do some great off reef snorkeling we missed out on.

“Stone Villas are rock solid”

We had two weeks in Villa One, with our son, his wife, and their son in Villa Two. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. The hosts, Ida and Albert Hekesi are kind and thoughtful people who saw to our every need. Their daughter, 9 years, was a appreciated companion for our grandson, just turning 8 years. The Hekesi family live next door.
It being Christmas time, Ida supplied decorations and coloured lights for us to hang. Local foodstuffs would appear. The church carollers, a party of ten or so, came to sing for us in the dark on Christmas Eve. We had fun-filled lessons on cocunut splitting, ukelele playing and uga eating.
A great deal of thought has gone into making the cottages as comfortble and efficient as possible. There was nothing we wanted for. On the rare occasion a special utensil was required, a quick visit through the fence to Ida would solve that.
The online photos don't really do justice to the charm of the villas.
We a had a car supplied for each Villa, although the five of us travelled together in the people-mover when it suited. If the younger ones went swimming to sea-track pools with difficult access, we could still get around the island.
The villas are just 800m away from the main street and the commercial centre, so easy walking to cafes and shops. They are a real adornment to the 'Rock of the Pacific'.
Faka'alofa, Ida, Albert and Family.

“Clean, stylish and well located self catering villas - great for families”

Our second visit to Niue was with extended family and for a two week stay we needed a self catering arrangement, just to make it more relaxing. We found Stone Villas on TripAdvisor - didn't see them on our first visit in 2010 as they are tucked in the quiet leafy area, a stone's throw from the small town of Alofi and all of the wonderful coastal sea tracks. Ida and Albert are lovely people. Very accommodating and helpful. Everything we needed was there in the attractive, whitewashed stone villas : spacious airy rooms, comfy beds, roomy bathroom, cool tiles, big fridge (the website photos don't show the nice big fridge and new comfy sofas!) . All this plus flat-screen TV/DVD, washing machine, outdoor seating, and ceiling fans. Bliss. There is no cellphone coverage in Niue, but there is free wifi all over the island. On top of all that, they popped over with papaya, lettuce, tomatoes, coconut and at the end of our stay, they treated us to a Uga (pronounced 'oonga'), the huge land crab that is a Niuean delicacy. Delicious. Oh, and don't forget that each villa comes with a car! Our young son befriended their lovely daughter and we enjoyed many wonderful swims in sea pools, and at micro-beaches It was boiling hot some days, but thankfully rained mostly at night. We swam every day and the nearest sea-track led to a micro-beach and snorkeling and it was at the end of the street! Less than 5 mins walk. I was a complete fool and forgot to to take my contact lens fluid. Ida was cruisey about it and before too long, arrived with her nieces lens fluid for me - what a relief! Thanks Ida. They also provided a terrific BBQ when we asked, and that made our Christmas meals really special. There were mini Christmas trees in each villa and they gave us plug-in twinkly lights and a few decorations which made it all a lot of fun. We love Niue. It's a rough diamond and you need to be a bit adventurous to get the most out of it. The supermarket has expanded a bit so there are more products - but it has to be hottest shop I have EVER been in! If you need something, make a quick dash in and out before you pass out! There are a few nice restaurants, with the new Kaiika sushi and pizza place being our favourite - the best sushi we've tasted outside Japan. I had a wonderful Suka (sugar) Handscrub at 'Hei Niue' just up the road - lovely Niuean beauty products made of local ingredients. Here's a tip; if you are fed up with sea swimming, just go the the Matavai Resort for lunch or dinner and they will let you use the pool! Even though it was not the season to swim with whales (did that unforgettable experience last time) we still had a brilliant time and found some great snorkeling spots. The sea-tracks all over the island are stunning, but there is not a lot else to do so just chillax and enjoy. Bring your underwater camera and some sturdy waterproof walking sandals.
