Stayed for 5 glorious nights in a very roomy 1 bedroom suite no 606. It was very quiet away from the other rooms but close to the pool & gym. The Manager Emilie was extremely helpful & polite & spoke very good English. She really helped us to get the most out of our holiday. The Hotel is very close to everything & we enjoyed our frequent walks to shops, cafés & restaurants. No need to stay at a busy & noisy hotel like the Hilton when you have paradise in a very modern boutique Hotel.

Bonjour Terri!
Thank you very much for your nice and constructive comment about our hotel. Calling us Stylish, modern and comparing us to the Hilton is something we are very proud of given the size of our establishment as we do thrive to deliver the services and products that take us in the competitive market that is Noumea’s luxurious hotels.
We are very glad you enjoyed your stay with us and we do hope to see you again soon for your next trip to New Caledonia.
The Best for you and your family for this promising year that is 2014!

Room:
- very clean. Furniture is not old and in room secured locker is available.
- In room fridge and microwave makes it prefect as eat out daily is costly.
- free wifi available and fast connection
- bathtub available. Prefect after a full day out.

Swimming pool & spa:
- good size enough for chill out but maybe a bit small for serious swimmer
- blue colour light up after dark. Very beautiful
- strong spa makes a perfect match after the pool
- facility available until 8pm. Good for someone who eats early dinner

Lobby & staff:
- clean & tidy, free light fruity taste ice water available on entry. Perfect after hot day out.
- very nice and helpful stuff. Speak English well. Thanks for night time Sarah & day time Jenive.

Location:
- Next door has 2 convenient store. Open before you wake up, close after you sleep. (1 min walk)
- top ranking bakery locate just next door. (1 min walk). Open from 5am - 7pm
- few restaurants also locate next door (Burger, Italian and French)
- 5 mins st line walk to the beach and main st. Lots of restaurant, bar, tourist information centre, bank and desert shop all line up together.
- few steps from the hotel front door can catch no.70 bus to & from the town centre. Very easy to get around
- 10 mins walk to the right will reach a much bigger French style convenient store which is perfect place to buy weekly food and souvenir. (Slightly uphill in the last part, but easy walk. Suggest you bring a backpack for shopping.)
- free kayaking rental, aqua gym, tennis class and other activity is available. Make sure you ask the front desk staff.

Recommend you ask the staff member to organise a quite room if you are a very noise sensitive sleeper. As the front facing room could be a little bit noisy when the biker drive pass. Otherwise there is nothing bad about this hotel.

We had a wonderful stay during our visit last week.

Reviewed December 23, 2013

In late December 2013 we stayed at Le Lagon for 8 nights and had a great time. The hotel is clean, friendly and well-located, and we would definitely stay again.

We stayed in room 705, in the annexe section of the complex and it was lovely. We booked a one-bed suite, rather than a studio room, and though it was a bit more expensive, it was worth it. The extra space was great to have, especially as we stayed indoors one day waiting for a tropical downpour to pass.

The hotel site is very clean and comfortable and the hotel staff are very friendly, accommodating and there’s a nice energy about the place. The service we received was fantastic and our room was spotless thanks to the very professional and thorough cleaners. A few of the staff speak English, but generally everyone speaks French. My partner is a French speaker, but I’m not and I managed to get by with a few words and phrases – everyone was very patient with me!

Eating out is fairly expensive, and there weren’t any places along Anse Vata beach that took our fancy, so we shopped at the local supermarket and ate in our room. Baie de Citrons has a few more restaurant options, including a nice gelataria called Amorino, where we had good quality coffees and ice creams during our stay. But otherwise we ate in our room.

In addition to the two small mini-marts that other reviewers mention, there’s a larger supermarket (part of the Simply supermarket chain) about 10 – 15 mins walk along Anse Vata Road, away from the beach (near the corner of Route du Velodrome & Route de l'Anse Vata). As well as regular supermarket items, it sells alcohol and household items that you might find at K-Mart. We shopped there pretty much daily. Though just be aware that the supermarket shuts at 12pm (midday) on Sundays.

Highlights of our trip:

--Half-day snorkelling tour with Aquanature – I’m an utter novice and I had an amazing time. We saw green turtles, oodles of fish, a leopard shark and a sea snake (and I felt safe and comfortable at all times!) Aquanature are very responsible and professional and cater for all abilities (my partner is an accredited diver and he said that this was one of the best experiences he has ever had).

--Mary D Amedee Island day trip. We were concerned that this might be a bit of a cheesy tourist trap, but it wasn’t. The staff worked very hard to make the day a success, the lunch was high-quality and generous, and the island itself is stunning. It was a brilliant day out and we highly recommend it.

--Jean-Marie Tjibaou Centre. Catch the local bus (number 40, from memory) from Centre Ville to the centre. Not only is the centre an astonishing and thoughtful example of architecture, it is one of the few places that is devoted to publicly presenting Indigenous identities and histories. An interesting mix of South Pacific stories and spaces, and more formal Euro-style galleries and collections. Absolutely worth a visit. Just take mosquito repellent, as there’s an outside walk that forms part of the centre and there were a few mossies around. (But don’t let that put you off! I’m absolutely neurotic about mosquitoes, and I found the visit comfortable and enjoyable).

--Maritime Museum. A newish Museum on the port, about a kilometer from the cruise ship terminal. The museum presents the histories of the New Caledonia region and is well worth a visit.

--Just walking around Noumea. If you’re reasonably fit, it’s a great way to see the town. We felt very comfortable wandering from the Le Lagon into Centre Ville and back. Everyone we encountered was friendly, and most people say hello as you pass in the street.

Overall, we loved Noumea and are planning to return at some point, and we would definitely stay at Le Lagon again. One of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had (and we’ve travelled a lot!)

PROS
– The 1 bedroom apartment was spacious, comfortable and nicely furnished (we asked for one on the top floor, as it was our honeymoon, which we got - room 505 is on a corner and has views over the pool and out to sea, with a living and a bedroom and a huge balcony - I would recommend it)
– the staff speak english and are friendly and helpful
– free wifi throughout the hotel plus 2 computers in reception
– there is a nice small, heated pool and spa as well as a paddling pool and sun lounges
– there is a little gym
– there is a vending machine with chocolates and drinks and a separate one with microwave dinners (though we were not game enough to try them)
– 5 mins walk to Anse Vata beach

CONS
– though helpful, the staff didn't always know the current tourist information and prices - best to go to the tourist office
– 'kitchenette' consists of a kettle, microwave, sink, plates and cutlery, and a fridge so can only eat microwave or cold dinners in the room (bring your own sharp knife)
– they do offer breakfast buffet but at an additional, quite expensive rate

OTHER INFO:
– there are two small grocery stores 2 mins walk if you turn right out of the hotel
– A must do is a day trip to Amedee Island with Mary D - worth every penny - amedeeisland.com
– walk around to Baie des Citrons which is a lovely bay for swimming and has plenty of restaurants (go to 'Astrolab' there for delicious food)

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor (Level 5) We got studio room 508 which has a sea view and 1 bedroom 505 which...

Dear AussieClare

Thank you for taking the time to write this long and detailed review. We are truly delighted that you have such good memories of your honeymoon with us and in New Caledonia! Your tips will surely benefit our future clients.

It is true that we do have proper cooking facilities in our kitchenette to avoid any fire hazard. We are very close to many shops and restaurants, which make it easy for our guest to dine outside of our hotel. The kitchenette is ideal for breakfasts or a quick lunch in your room. We will remember to sharpen our knives :P

If you decide to come back to our side of the South Pacific, make sure to come and stay with us to witness the new features we are adding to Le Lagon. A Sauna will now be adjacent to the swimming pool and spa area, free of charge for the pleasure of all our guests. We are also renewing our Suites’ bedding comfort and decoration as well as putting some new Smart LED TVs.

In the meantime, the team is joining me to wish you the best for this end of the year 2013 and the year 2014.

Best Regards

Good, clean and modern hotel. The staff were helpful and hotel is well situated close to cafes and shops.
After a later brief stay at a so called 5 star hotel (see my review of the Ramada) La Lagon shone even brighter.
My only complaint would be the large window between the bedroom and bathroom, perhaps this is a French thing but we would have preferred a little more privacy!

All of our employees are friendly and trained to respond to each and every guests' needs and wants with the courtesy their deserve.

I am please to tell you that we have known the defect of the bathroom/bedroom window for a while and are placing, in the following weeks, some wooden blind which will, once closed, give a much better privacy to the bathroom. It is thanks to your comments and those like yours that we are able to improve some of these miscalculations.

We recently spent our 25th wedding anniversary in Noumea & and chose hotel Le Lagon from tripadvisor reviews, and like other reviews they lived up to their positive ratings.
Great location, great facilities, (the pool & spa were great ways to unwind & cool down at the end of each day)
The staff were great (although english was limited) & the room was clean & tidy. Close to all the touristy things with the bus stop basicly being just along the road making it easy to get around.
Remember to look right first when crossing the road though.
Well done Le Lagon I hope you make it 3 yrs in a row for your award.

We had a lovely stay in the hotel. very clean and nice. There was a small shop very close so we bought all our food there and heated in the microwave. No problems with night club noise, the traffic noise was easily shut out if balcony door was closed, the aircon was very quiet as well. They have strange way of having a window between bedroom and toilet/shower with a blind that is see-through as well. Not so good if you want privacy!

Room Tip: Higher floors have less traffic noise

Bonjour Birderforever !
Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review. Our guest’s comments are really important as they help us to improve the service and the quality of our Hotel.

A lot of customers write about the noise coming from the roadside of the hotel, and I am glad that you mentioned the fact that with the balcony closed and the air-conditioning on, the noise is non-existent. Unfortunately a hotel is often composed of a roadside (noisy or not very pretty depending on the location) and a calmer, prettier side. We do price the rooms according to these elements of course.

I am please to tell you that we have known the defect of the bathroom/bedroom window for a while and are placing, in the following weeks, some wooden blind which will, once closed, give a much better privacy to the bathroom. It is thanks to your comments and those like yours that we are able to improve some of these miscalculations.

Let me add that we are adding some new feature to Le Lagon such as a Sauna, adjacent to the swimming pool and spa and smart Led TVs in all of our Suites.
We hope to see you again on your next trip to New Caledonia so that you can enjoy all these changes.

In the meantime, Le Lagon's team is joining me to wish you the best for this end of the year 2013mand the year 2014.
