If you have 20 minutes to kill then visit here. I love history so it was ok to walk around and read the history. It is designed to kids to discover and so for that it is good. Adults may be bored.

We managed to fill in an hour or so at this museum on a windy day when the other museum wasn't open and the beach wasn't an option. Adults cost 500 francs (about $NZ8) so it was very good value for money in Noumea! It has the history of many shipwrecks and also about the early explorers (like James Cook) as well as info about the different cultures to settle in New Caledonia over the years. It wasn't solely "maritime" stuff.

Not to big but interesting story to tell of the island and how it has struggled over the years to keep going.

Quite hard to find down by the wharf and down a long roadway but well worth the visit. Excellent presentation and the displays were well done and very informative. Can highly recommend.

If you are interested in the maritime history of the area and the early explorers of the Pacific you will enjoy this museum. Takes about 1-2 hours to absorb it all and was very informative. It was recommended to me and I enjoyed my visit very much.
