“Stunning architecture”
Reviewed July 13, 2014

Renzo Paino's creation is a site to be seen. One of the great pieces of contemporary architecture in the world. The centre itself has little to recommend it. Don't be out off ...a short trip from Nouméa and breathtaking

The Tjibaou cultural centre with its amazing architecture provides an interesting insight into the Kanak world and is well worth a visit. Pack some walking shoes and allow a couple of hours to see it all.

“World class architecture”
Reviewed July 7, 2014

Worth a visit just to see the fabulous architecture which soars into the skyline. It's in a lovely spot on the water. There's not a lot to see here though and we were a little disappointed they hadn't made more of it with detailed displays of local and traditional cultural. There's a lack of English translation in places. There are some traditional huts on display outside which were worth a look.

interesting to learn about the Kanaks. but that's it. nothing much there. the structures did not feel like authentic. these are more architecturally significant then cultural (to me)

“Really disappointing”
Reviewed July 2, 2014 via mobile

I come here as part of a school group from Australia every two years. Normally, I love this place, but this time I was thoroughly disappointed. In the entire building only two rooms were opened - one on the design of the building and one on the life of Jean Marie Tjibaou. I had pre-planned a stay of two hours with my students but we were finished after less than one hour. Waste of an afternoon when time was precious to us. Lesson from this: check that the expositions will be open before coming.
