Le Meridien does itself no favours by having five stars proudly displayed at the main entrance. On Starwood terms it is category 4 - a superior hotel/resorts in a choice locations - and that is exactly what it is. If you are expecting a 5 star resort you will be disappointed - there is no concierge, the internal shop is often shut (and staff don't have access), rooms are a bit tired etc. But if you are after a superior hotel right on the beach then you will not be disappointed.
It is walking or cycling (bikes are free to hire) from Anse Vada which has a range of (mostly average) restaurants, or a drive or cycle from Baie des Citrons which has a bit more going on. Noumea itself is definitely a drive.
The pool area and beach is nice (if shallow at high tide), breakfast is a little better than average.
I wouldn't bother staying in Anse Vada or elsewhere in Nouema as the hotels there all seemed to be away from the beach.
