We had a very good meal at L'Assiette du Cagou. The menu is written on the wall and consists of the normal range of meat and seafood, but you can choose the sauce to match your taste. Although the restaurant was packed, our meals (prawns and steak) arrived quickly. Both dishes were excellent and served with a range of vegetables in their own bowls. The flavours were a delicious combination of traditional French cuisine and Pacific Island.

Most of the clientele were locals; always a good sign. Beware, the steaks are cooked bleu, the way we like it, but perhaps not everyone's taste.

if you want to try local food this is the place to try.
I had fish with a coconut curry sauce and my husband had the mixed grill well we could not finish our meal as it was copious.
Highly recommended if you are in Noumea.

This small eatery is off the main strip of Noumea restaurants and opposite an imposing tattoo parlour but don't be put off. The menu is small and not particularly accommodating of vegetarians but that criticism aside the feed is interesting, infused with New Caledonian flavours and the vibe more than makes up for it. Chic young Noumeans frequent this place for good reason. Drinks are not cheap but nothing is in Noumea and the service is lovely. Well worth a visit

We enjoyed our visit to this traditional new Caledonian French restaurant. It was small and about half full on a Thursday night. The restaurant has a blackboard menu and offers only main courses and deserts. Food was really amazing with fantastic side dishes and flavours. The deserts were really good in particular a three chocolate slice. We would recommend this restaurant for an easy and high quality meal in Noumea..

This is really the only restaurant in Noumea that offers caldoche (caledonian non aborigenous) cuisine.
The restaurant is seased just on the same road that Mobil petole station facing "tatoo" shop in the Latin district (Post office area).
We went for lunch today, and I ordered "sauted of prawn with poingo banana" and my husband ordered "filet mignon of venison" (check pictures joined hereafter):

The Good points:
- main dishes are priced between 2800 & 3300 CFP which is the normal prices in noumea
- quantity: generous, very generous (I had no more space in my stomach for the dessert).
- taste: gorgeous.the sauted of prawn needed a bit more spices but was fantastic. I think it is a bit too much to have rice, sweet potato and some choped poingo banana in the same dish. the filet mignon of venison was gorgeous. the sauce was yummy and well balanced.
- really clean
- presentable
- waiters: owner, and tender were good. a bit discrete.
- menu: a great choice of main dishes (at least 20), wine and dessert. each main dish is served with 4 siders (white rice, salade with vinaigrette dressing, cooked chinese cabbage and sweet potato gratin).

the weak points:
- service: slow. u should not be under pressure or rush.
- no view, no outside terrasse. indoor only.
- decoration is sober and simple. but who cares when the meal is delicious.

Conclusion: we will definitely be back to savour more dishes
