On a wet day in Noumea it seemed to be an ideal way to learn about New Caledonia. Very disappointed to be curtly told that a smal sign inside the foyer said cash only. Then told local currency only. One would expect that a government operated establishment would adhere to its government tourist policy of accepting Euros, US$ and AUD. It was the only venue we encountered which did not accept credit cards. We did not feel inclined to look for a money exchange just to enter the museum.

The Kanak art specialty seems to be totem poles, and they don't follow a strict format, they allow themselves a good deal of creativity. So that was my favorite part of this museum, which also featured other artifacts of island life (which I had been expecting to see at the Djibaou cultural center but didn't).

I enjoyed seeing the displays and marvelled at the skill involved with creating the various tools, implements, clothing etc but the information about the displays is extremely limited, even in French. Would have appreciated more information and also readable ... Small print in dark cases not helpful.

The french govt should invest in some tech to provide the info ... iPads to borrow?

Also thumbs down to the French visitors with the screaming kids - you allowed them to run rampant, climb on displays etc.

Large structure with historical artifacts on New Caledonia and other islands. Maintenance is required internally and the exterior garden was in disrepair. This Building requires a cash injection fast to return it a well regarded establishment.
