“great snorkelling on the doorstep of Noumea”
Reviewed October 18, 2013

I did not expect to find such great coral and plentiful fish populations so close to Noumea, but this is the real deal. The water taxi ride is only 1200 CFP and you can lie under a tree on the beach for free, or hire a lounge chair and umbrella if you prefer. A bar and restaurant serves the usual. Snorkle gear is available for hire. The water is ultra- clear and present every variety of coral imaginable. The fish are protected, and they know it and are just as curious about you as you are of them. A large octopus basking on the top of a coral head one meter from the surface shows how relaxed the creatures are about the human presence.
DO NOT MISS THIS EXPERIENCE!!

“Great island and so close!”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

Just go as many times as you can, it's so convenient, boats can pick you up anytime...lots of beach lounges you can rent (CFP2800 for two lounges and umbrella). Snorkelling was fun, not great though. We went on Saturday and it wasn't too crowded at all.

“Tourist trap”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

The idea of heading out to an island close to the mainland is very appealing, but once there things are a bit disappointing. Umbrellas on the beach are charged for, the snorkelling is okay but not incredible and the food was a let down -- pretty much matches the full Noumea experience.

“Worth a morning vist”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Nice cafe in the centre of the island. Scuba trail is good. It is a pity you have to pay for the lounge chairs but then that is part of the up keep I guess. Take shoes as the coral is hard on the feet. Colleen water taxi's best price 1000 pff retun

“Great snorkelling and lots of fish”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

The island is a very short boat ride from Anse Vata beach and is becoming very popular. I suggest that you are there during high tide as this provides more options.
The visibility was better than Amedee and a lot more fish of bigger size and more variety, close to the shore. There is a good self guiding snorkel tour.
Plenty of amenities are now on this Island, but costs extra. Just take your snorkel, mask, flippers and a picnic and you will have an enjoyable day.
One advantage is that you can return to the mainland whenever you are ready via the water taxi.
