“pros and cons”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

We did not know what to expect when we went to this island which is just off the coast of Anse Vata beach. We went by water taxi which runs about every 15 or 20 mins. It is a quick trip over. We knew that there was a cafe so we had lunch. Be warned, they are very slow with the service and while we sat for a long time waiting to be served, someones meal was on the counter waiting to be picked up by the waiter. It sat throughout our meal and was never picked up. We ordered and noticed that our meal was also placed by the long lost meal. We just took matters into our own hands and collected it ourselves. Have to say, the food was good with generous serves.
We did not realise that everything has to be hired. The beach lounges and snorkling gear has to be hired so take money. You will also need reef shoes as it is all coral. There is lots of shade but it does get crowded so go early.

“Relaxing day trip close to Noumea”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

A relaxing day trip from Noumea. Two water taxi's make the short trip from Anse Vata to the island. I suggest arriving early and paying the fee to rent a lounge chair and umbrella for the day. We considered this money well spent and set in for a day of reading, lounging and snorkelling. The restaurant offered large meals for prices similar to the rest of Noumea and our selections were healthy and good value. Many families also brought a picnicked ate at their lounge chairs.
Snorkelling was quite good with a reasonable amount of sea life in close proximity to the beach. A relaxing alternative to a day in Noumea and better than lying on the main beaches.

You can take a water taxi right from the Anse Vata beach and get to Ile aux Canard island in 5 minutes

Good snorkelling spot with some marked areas for snorkeling, nice restaurant and bar there too

“Not worth the visit”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

The beach is not nice at all and they charge for everything including the sun bed and shade. It is also very overcrowded and only a small section of the beach could be used for swimming.
