Wow.....this restaurant was just so yummy!! It is just up the side street from the Hilton La Promenade. The service was great and as I said before the food was just devine. The best place we ate in the 5 nights we were there.

After reading the reviews we decided to add it to our list of restaurants to visit. We left bitterly disappointed.

The decor is beyond eclectic... a water feature, a fish tank, silk draped from the ceiling and slate table placemats.

For entree we both ordered the lobster ravioli and it was excellent. In hindsight we both wished we'd ordered a main size and left it at that. Instead for main - we ordered fish - one mahi mahi which was ok - and one snapper with spinach that was actually algae! It was revolting. Scrapings off the bottom of a fish tank. Both the side salad and steamed veggies were below average.

Dessert was ok - creme brûlée w coconut and berries.

The Chablis was great, as was the sense of humour of the wait staff.

For 22,000 francs. Don't bother. There are other nicer places with a better outlook.

My last night in New Caledonia, Right next to Le Lagon Hotel. The food was fantastic. The chef served the meal at the table, A main, dessert (another crème brulee for me) , half bottle of Rose and a bottle of sparkling water for XPF7,150. Highly recommended.

Amadeus is one of those restaurants that do not initially inspire you when you first enter. The place looks more like a chinese cafe with its indoor water features complete with live Koi and large fish tanks. The indoor waterfall was surrounded with dead plants still in their pots, others with the price tag still intact. Hoses and plumbing were in view for all to see. Do not request a table near the water feature. The timber floorboards make a lot of noise, particularly when the hostess wears high heels (watch for the steps when you first enter). The place needs to get rid of its kitsch decor and hire a professional interior designer.

The service was prompt and polite but unfriendly and matter-of-fact. The menus are huge (in physical size not content) and other tables received an amuse-bouche but we did not. The trainee waiter poured wine with both hands on the bottle. The chef prepared some dishes at tables but never smiled or engaged in conversation.

Having said all this, food and wine are fantastic, yes even to die for. The food is a blend of French and Italian. I had Pork Parcels wrapped in Smoked Ham with Ravioli. My wife had Crevettes a la Caledonienne. We both had Cannelloni Gratin side dishes. Sweets were Panna Cota (me) and sorbet (her). Two courses each and a bottle of wine set us back $AUD 158.

With two weeks spent in Noumea and eating at many restaurants, this was one of the best meals we had during our stay. The locals and Tripadvisor reviewers seem to agree. The place was packed. Reservations are a necessity.

Would we go back? I would, just for the food. My French wife prefers the total package: good food, ambience and an engaging attitude. A disagreement is sure to ensue with our next visit to Noumea.

When you walk past the smoky glass windows of Amadeus you are unsure of what you will get,
however reading the Trip Advisor reviews, we decided to spend our last nights dinner here.
Happy to say the reviews were correct. The Chablis was chilled to perfection, the foie gras was sublime, the lobster ravioli was good. The prawns cooked in whisky was fantastic.
Reading the other reviews I ordered the duck and whilst quite quirky cutting it up in front of you and cooked "rose" I felt it was ok but a bit bland (but plenty of it) Unfortunately had to leave so no desert. It was a Monday night and all tables were full, the staff seemed to consist of a waitress & the owner /chef, they managed all the tables with minimum fuss. Would definitely go again!
