Husband and I stayed for four days. We had a bungalow right on the beach. The room itself was lovely, very clean - looked a little tired - but was fine. The only mistake we made was to come without sun screen (thinking we could buy on the Island) very wrong, there are absolutely no shops so nothing to buy, as a result we both burned to a crisp! The swim up bar wasn't opened either, which was a little disappointing. The island itself is beautiful, you can walk around it in 30 minutes (which we did everyday) lots of activities if you are that way inclined (canoeing, kite surfing etc) a bit too energetic for us. The only place to eat is the restaurant, or the kiosk in the same place - food was good. All in all we had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed relaxing - Lady in the bar made the best gin & tonic I have ever tasted!

The decision to go all out and book an overwater bungalow was well rewarded. We'd only been in the water a few minutes when we were inundated with sights of beautiful fish, colourful corals, turtles, stingrays, and even a reef shark. The buffet breakfast and dinner were amazingly fresh and plenty to choose from. I find it quite strange that in all the reading I had done, I hadn't read that turtles were abundant here and thought I had to book a day tour to the lighthouse. The grounds around the hotel could do with some work though. The boardwalks around the bungalows were in need of the bolts being tightened and those staying in beachfront bungalows looked like they had one or two beach chairs carelessly tossed on the grounds and and some of them looked broken. The island is very pretty and the reef is undoubtably worth visiting. I feel it's quite a shame the resort only seemed interested in up-keeping the pool and restaurant

I was travelling with a family member after doing a renovation with the plan of resting in the the sunshine, swimming and snorkelling and doing some course work for a work project. The experience over delivered.
The accommodation was beautiful and serene. The bungalows were neat, clean, spacious and tidy with everything you would need. There were a few signs of wear but nothing that bothered us. The view was stunning and we were blessed to be there in turtle season and so just from the bungalow we could see so many turtles first thing in morning and later in the afternoon. The sunbathing beds on the balcony were very uncomfortable but OK when padded with cushions from chairs from in the bungalow. The water was beautifully warm and calm and heavenly to keep dipping in and out of.
Our package had breakfast and dinner included. You receive a bottle of water a day. It would have been useful to know that beforehand as it was unclear where to go for water.

The food was good but limited choice. The delicious stand outs were the sashimi tuna and creme brulee.

Internet is very limited and not enough for us to do work so $16/day for extra. 250MB is free and then $16/day gives you 10GB to use in 24hrs. We were told that it was not possible to buy a weeks worth for Hilton on mainland and Escapade but after buying individual days on island, returned to mainland to realise that our log in from island was still valid. This was annoying because it would have been cheaper to buy the week package than 5 individual days but nevermind.

There was a pool that looked lovely but we did not use. There isn't a gym and the island is very small, so walking around it doesn't take long but there are various leisurely water sports to try for a price and kite surfing lessons on the other side of the island.

Overall a beautiful relaxing experience in a gorgeous setting and would definitely come back.

Room tip: We had overwater bungalow and that is only way I would do it.

Alternative island stay easily reached with taxi boat or island transfer. Cheaper because it does not involve flying or any great distance from Noumea. Great for a few nights stay, 2-3.
In my view 3.5 star accommodation, either garden, beach or over water bungalows. Needs some modernisation but then I guess the prices would increase.
Swim with turtles (amazing), see some lovely fish including poisonous sea snake.
Breakfast and dinner buffet. Yummy sushimi during some dinners. Dinner either 6500 or 7500 CFP Franks per person unless you have two for one offer. Cocktails around 1600/1800. Cheapest local beer 600, others 900.

The over-water bungalow at L ’Escapade Island resort was everything we ever dreamed of and more. Swimming in the clear blue ocean with turtles & fish 3 or 4 times a day was such a wonderful experience. You had the opportunity to do as little as you wanted or enjoy the abundance of water sport available such as snorkelling, canoeing, paddle boarding, kite surfing, jet skiing & more. The included buffet breakfast & dinners offered a good selection of food and the staff were always very pleasant and accommodating. A good suggestion is to take your own snacks & alcohol to the island as it its very expensive.
