I was travelling with a family member after doing a renovation with the plan of resting in the the sunshine, swimming and snorkelling and doing some course work for a work project. The experience over delivered.
The accommodation was beautiful and serene. The bungalows were neat, clean, spacious and tidy with everything you would need. There were a few signs of wear but nothing that bothered us. The view was stunning and we were blessed to be there in turtle season and so just from the bungalow we could see so many turtles first thing in morning and later in the afternoon. The sunbathing beds on the balcony were very uncomfortable but OK when padded with cushions from chairs from in the bungalow. The water was beautifully warm and calm and heavenly to keep dipping in and out of.
Our package had breakfast and dinner included. You receive a bottle of water a day. It would have been useful to know that beforehand as it was unclear where to go for water.

The food was good but limited choice. The delicious stand outs were the sashimi tuna and creme brulee.

Internet is very limited and not enough for us to do work so $16/day for extra. 250MB is free and then $16/day gives you 10GB to use in 24hrs. We were told that it was not possible to buy a weeks worth for Hilton on mainland and Escapade but after buying individual days on island, returned to mainland to realise that our log in from island was still valid. This was annoying because it would have been cheaper to buy the week package than 5 individual days but nevermind.

There was a pool that looked lovely but we did not use. There isn't a gym and the island is very small, so walking around it doesn't take long but there are various leisurely water sports to try for a price and kite surfing lessons on the other side of the island.

Overall a beautiful relaxing experience in a gorgeous setting and would definitely come back.

Room tip: We had overwater bungalow and that is only way I would do it.

Alternative island stay easily reached with taxi boat or island transfer. Cheaper because it does not involve flying or any great distance from Noumea. Great for a few nights stay, 2-3.
In my view 3.5 star accommodation, either garden, beach or over water bungalows. Needs some modernisation but then I guess the prices would increase.
Swim with turtles (amazing), see some lovely fish including poisonous sea snake.
Breakfast and dinner buffet. Yummy sushimi during some dinners. Dinner either 6500 or 7500 CFP Franks per person unless you have two for one offer. Cocktails around 1600/1800. Cheapest local beer 600, others 900.

The over-water bungalow at L ’Escapade Island resort was everything we ever dreamed of and more. Swimming in the clear blue ocean with turtles & fish 3 or 4 times a day was such a wonderful experience. You had the opportunity to do as little as you wanted or enjoy the abundance of water sport available such as snorkelling, canoeing, paddle boarding, kite surfing, jet skiing & more. The included buffet breakfast & dinners offered a good selection of food and the staff were always very pleasant and accommodating. A good suggestion is to take your own snacks & alcohol to the island as it its very expensive.

Room tip: Over water bungalow are amazing

This location is amazing.
Over water bungalows allow you to roll out of bed and into the ocean to swim with turtles, stingrays, and all kinds of fish.
Watching the sun set from your private bungalow is also amazing.

The bad part is everything else.
The staff, while friendly, were hopeless and didn't communicate at all. We booked 2 nights but they only had us down for 1, and tried to remove us, on new years eve.
Then we told the only option for nye food was the $200 a head dinner, which was mediocre at best.
The breakfast buffet was average too.

If you stay here bring as much food and drink as you can do be as self sufficient as possible, even if just for snacks.

My partner and I booked 5 days away at escapade for his birthday and weren't expecting it to be particularly high-end given the reviews but we were pleasantly surprised and couldn't get over how beautiful the place was. We had an overwater bungalow out towards the end and just loved every minute of our stay there. The only thing that lets the resort down is the food. While it's understandable given that there on a small island so food options are slightly restricted the buffet in the morning is pretty good for breakfast but the evening buffets are a little bit lacking. The best thing about the evening buffet is for sure the desserts.

For sure the overwater bungalows seem the best option, the garden bungalows would be extremely noisy given the birds that Nest all through the gardens and sound like crying babies at night time. They also don't have the same wow Factor as the overwater bungalows and they aren't quite as private either. The overwater bungalows were pleasantly well situated so everyone had their own private view once you walked in the front door you basically had an outlook to the water and you weren't directly looking at anyone else's room. They were really spacious clean and well-appointed with a lounge area and TV, large bedroom with two wardrobes and TV, and a massive bathroom with a bath and a shower with three different shower heads. The rooms have a mini fridge in them which is great for keeping your water cold and they provide tea and coffee and a kettle for you to use. The only downside is powdered milk for your coffee. The overwater bungalows have electronic stairs that come out of the water in the evening. How's didn't work but it wasn't a big deal you just have to watch out for the little sea snakes that come up the stairs. There was usually one on our deck most mornings and hip-hop back into the ocean around about 10 a.m. they seem to have a little routine of doing a lap of our deck. They are pretty docile little creatures and generally stay out of your way I would definitely recommend keeping the door to your balcony closed however as they are fast little guys haha.

We decided to try all the options for dinners while we were there so we didn't get sick of the dinner buffet. We had the tap is menu on the second night which was quite disappointing basically some of the food had come from the buffet and they just popped it on a plate for you. And it was quite expensive for what it is but that's just to do with the exchange rate. Our next night we booked a private dinner that they were offering for my partner's birthday and it was beautiful the chef meet with us the night before and we discussed what we do and don't like and what the menu would be. Which I thought was really cool service when we arrived for dinner that night they had said us up a beautiful spot next to the pool on our own and we had our own waiter for the night. The dinner was beautiful and by far the best food that we've had while we were there all of the courses were delicious and perfectly sized so we could finish the whole lot haha.

We also tried the "lunch shop" on the island which is attached to the little shack where you can hire kayaks. Their options are things like toasted sandwiches, hot dogs and chips. Not super amazing food but it fed us and it was nice.

Snorkels and masks are free of charge for Hotel guests to hire from the hire shop and they have kayaks, paddle boards, jet skis, and SCUBA gear that can all be hired as well. We each hired a kayak and a paddle board and headed clockwise around the island one morning which was the most amazing little trip ever. We lost count After paddling with 30 Turtles and we're just in all of the serenity and beauty over the other side of the Island. We easily lapped the island in the hour that we had hired our gear for and we had taken it slow and stopped quite a few times along the way.

If you can get past the food not being super great I would highly recommend staying on the island for a good few days as an amazing relaxing getaway. We constantly kept saying how do more people not know about this place!? It's so beautiful the staff are so friendly and helpful and it was just an awesome relaxing getaway with dreamtimes swimming and paddling with so many turtles. There's a lot to do on the island if you want to swim, snorkel, kayak, paddle board, jet ski, or just swim in the pool and relax. We went over to Noumea for a day during our stay and both thought why on earth would you want to stay there when there is Paradise 20 minutes away!

The hotel staff are incredibly accommodating if you want to go to the mainland during a time when there isn't typically a passenger boat running. We had to leave early in the morning before the first boat so they take us back to the mainland on the staff boat when it was running and we're also incredibly helpful with booking a few things that we did on the mainland. The hotel Wi-Fi is incredibly patchy and we had no roaming for both our New Zealand networks over there but basically if you go there thinking you're going to be off the grid and you can have some time away from the electronics you're good to go.
