We expected everything to be expensive in New Caledonia, but the prices at this island "resort" were ridiculous! Breakfast was included in our "accommodation" cost, but if you had to pay, it would be 3500francs (more than A$40) per person. Lunch and dinner were both a buffet arrangement which cost 6500 francs per person (more than A$80 pp), except on the weekend (Friday evening to Sunday lunch) when the price jumps to 7500 francs (abt A$100 ) per person. And the buffet choices were extremely ordinary, and definitely not what you would expect for the money paid. Wine and drinks were another rip-off, and discouraged any partaking! And there was no chance of buying a nice-cream or bag of chips if that was all you wanted.
Hotel itself was old and tired and in need of a refresh, (which is imminent) but if there is no change to the meal arrangements, I would suggest you experience the island life on a different island.

A short ride by motor launch/ferry is all it takes to get to this tropical paradise.
When we first entered our overwater bungalow, the two of us stood with mouths agape facing the tranquil blue, blue waters of the Pacific Ocean that surrounds this coral atoll and laps beneath our home for just 3 nights.
But before I tell you how I swam everyday, I must confess that I am NOT a regular swimmer. In fact, I hardly ever go swimming, but here, every morning and afternoon, I took to the water, floating blissfully or swimming with the turtles and tiny electric blue fish.
Our rooms were spotless, very spacious (you could hold a party in the bathroom!)and comfortable. A buffet breakfast was included in our "package" as was the boat transfers. All the staff were friendly and courteous.
BUT, and there is a but, despite giving this resort a 5 star rating, make sure you are aware that there is nowhere else to eat on the Ilot Maitre other than the resort's restaurant, and while I'd recommend the snack bar lunches at poolside, the quality of the restaurant's lunch & dinner buffets is average at best. The prices, particularly on the weekends verge on extortion. And that's without the high cost of drinks.

A short complementary ferry from Noumea (easy airport transfer using Smiths) and a charming way to start a holiday in NC. We flew in on a Friday mid-morning and were in the sun on our private deck by mid-afternoon. The overwater bungalows are quite large with good snorkelling off your own deck. Including a turtle! These bungalows are the best place on the resort and well worth the extra. Excellent toiletries too.

It's true the food is average, but one can be selective and eat well if you're not obsessive about piling up your plate: smoked salmon, beouf Bourgignon and fine chocolate eclairs were a good enough dinner for me. With a late breakfast we could skip lunch and the price then got better overall, along with our duty free.

The water sports are good too - extra cost, except for snorkelling gear, as is usual in most places.

Staff are helpful, English is well understood, rooms are a little tired but spotless, and the wifi is free and good quality. It's a tiny, friendly spot and we had a lovely stay as a Friday - Monday island getaway prior to some mainland adventures.

We visited this resort recently with our 7 months old baby and had an amazing stay, not wanting to come back from this relaxing holiday at an idyllic place.

Location:
We stayed at the overwater bungalow, had to sign a waiver as kids are generally not allowed in the overwater bungalows. These are beautifully set to snorkel or enjoy sunset from the deck or your bedroom. The rooms were spacious, clean & comfortable. Bathroom appeared to be recently renovated. The massive bedroom glass window & windows in the lounge room have great view of the lagoon. You can see plentiful fishes & even turtles standing from the deck. Oh and yes there are snakes, didn't see any in water but in sand burrow on the island.

Free WiFi internet throughout the resort & in rooms.

Food & Service:
I had read all of trip advisor reviews & booked the resort purely for its location. We went with an open mind around service based on those reviews. We had few things going against us, firstly we didn't speak any French whatsoever other than bonjour & merci, secondly my wife is vegetarian & finally travelling with 7 month old has its own challenges.
We were extremely pleased with each & every staff member of the resort, most of the time going out of the way to accommodate our special requests. On all occasions the staff exceeded our expectations.
Special thanks to the restaurant manager Sebastian & the crew working with him to create a vegetarian menu for my wife twice daily.
Lunch & dinner option is buffet only, which at XPF 6,500 pp per time is on a very expensive side. Again bonus points to the staff as they only charged us XPF 2,500 each time since the wife couldn't eat most of the buffet.
During lunch there's the snack bar option of sandwiches & burger. Huge portions & at XPF 1000 or so very reasonable compared to buffet.

Buffet breakfast was free with usual spread and lots of variety.

Language:
If you don't speak French, it can be a challenge. However we never experienced any rudeness or arrogance. Staff tried to understand or went to find someone that understood English.

We also tried getting by using the translation app on the phone. Free WiFi came in handy here.

If you're travelling to New Caledonia, go with the knowledge that in general its an expensive place to travel.

Overall we had a very relaxing time made even better by the resort staff. We would definitely come back here at first opportunity.

I love this island resort as it is just a short boat trip from Noumea, a great place to be away if you are looking for an express getaway. The water bungalow is nice and private for couples and the garden bungalow is suitable for family with kids. The restaurant offers a variety of food, international as well as French cuisine, the grill kitchen gives us an option to order different kind of meat and seafood. The buffet of Breakfast, Lunch and dinner are available on the restaurant, not to mention there is a snack available next to the swimming pool and bar where we could order our food in a flash :D The staff are super friendly and helpful managed by professional managers.

I have been there many times with my kids and family to stay over for the weekend as well as just for a day out. My kids are into the watersports, so we use a lot of the facility there but it does not belong to the hotel. We also went there a few times with my companion and it was an excellent experience for us. Massage Thai with Yo is a must....

Overall review is a great place to be for an excellent getaway.

This resort is nested on the "îlot Maître" atoll , just 15 minutes away from Noumea Harbour.
So after a short and agreable crossing aboard the shuttle boat, you'll land on the islet.
The bungalows are confortable, roomy, and well decorated.
There you may rest by the swimming pool, or practice water different activities. Îlot Maître is an excellent place for kite-surfing (bring your own gear)
The restaurant is average for the price. The same about breakfast.

Room Tip: If you can afford, ask for a bungalow on the water. Really worth the difference.

Having read a number of both positive and negative reviews of this resort, I had somewhat mixed expectations. My main concerns based on the other reviews were the snakes, the staff and the food.

Taking previous guests advice on board, we stocked up on picnic basics and wine/beer from the market before catching the water taxi across from Anse Vata beach (approx 3000 return - handy if you are coming from this end of Noumea rather than Port Moselle where the free hotel shuttle is available.

On arrival we did experience a rather unhelpful receptionist who filled us in on the bare basics with little grace or hospitality. Thankfully this was the only bad experience we had with hotel staff with all others we came across providing very friendly and helpful service - particularly the restaurant staff and the receptionists who checked us out on the last day and organized transport for us.

On checking into our overwater villa we were thrilled with the stunning views over the water and direct access from the deck down into the sea for snorkeling etc. The rooms themselves were a little tired but spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was huge and stunning - a real highlight especially the multi-nozzled shower. While we were there they were replacing mattresses in some of the rooms and agree this would improve things but all in all the room was fine.

We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the deck, watching the water and the various yachts and other boats coming in and out. For amateurs we found the snorkeling from the deck (snorkeling equipment available for free from the aqua shed) a real treat and saw lots of very pretty fish and a sea turtle without really straying too far from the villas. Was definitely the highlight of our visit.

We did visit the restaurant for dinner one night, breakfast one morning and purchased sandwiches from the snack at lunch one day. We found the food to be very nice but nothing to write home about. The prices were about what we expected. The pastries brought to our room in the evening were a lovely treat.

My fears of sea snakes were not realised with only one sighting on land walking back to my room.

All in all a pretty special experience and well worth the price.
