Thank you for taking time to comment. Our horticulturalists and gardeners do a great job at keeping the Park clean and tidy and as we continue to build, we plan to add additional breakout zones for kids.
We hope to see you again soon. Don't forget it you are a Port Moresby resident that we do offer annual Membership which gives you, apart from unlimited entry, lots of extras and discounts.
As a city resident, the tranquility and noise of the wildlife is the only thing I would like to hear for a change. It is as close as you can get to natural tropical settings without having to drive or fly out of POM.
The children love not just seeing the wildlife (birds(paradise, toucan and others), wallaby, bats, crocodile, cassowary, cuscus, tree kangaroos, crown pidgeons and off course the snakes, but rolling around on the grass. The names of the animals and plants help our children learn what they may not learn in class. So good science/biology learning experience for children and adults alike.
The play pen for under 6yrs appeared to be exciting for my nieces; climbing and crawling through tunnels. And the settings have served by family and I for weddings and birthday parties so far.
Lots of places to sit and rest; have a bbq; or just a picnic;or just to rest and read on the grass; toilet amenities are good and many; the boardwalk is more secure and bigger as well. The cafeteria serves good food and the little gift shop complements it all. Security is good and customer service has improved alot.
I will continue to visit the place whenever I want to visit. Never tire from it.
There is not too many attractions in Port Moresby so it is definitely worth a visit. It is a very quiet and tranquil spot to walk around and was very relaxing. The animal enclosures were a little dodgy in some cases. Great opportunity to see some of the beautiful birds as well.
Thank you for taking the time to visit the Nature Park and to comment on TripAdvisor. The Nature Park is the highest visited attraction in Papua New Guinea so definitely worth the visit.
I am not sure what you are referring to regarding the dodgy animal enclosures. Port Moresby Nature Park is the only internationally welfare-accredited wildlife facility across the South Pacific and is one of less than 100 Zoos and Aquariums to sit, what is considered globally, one of the highest standard animal welfare audits by the Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia.
Perhaps you are referring to a couple of older exhibits, such as our converted WWII American Army Quonset Hut, which is now a walk-through bird aviary and compared to the many new exhibits does look older. However all animals contained within enjoyed the same welfare standards which we assess through the Five Domains Model, developed by Prof. David Mellor. The Five Domains Model enables us to extend beyond the 'Five Freedoms' for Animals and into the measurable assessments of nutrition, environment, health and behaviour which leads us to provide an assessment of the animals mental state to determine its animal welfare status. As an accredited facility none of our animals have been audited and assessed in a negative welfare state. The Park is very proud of the achievements of its staff, particularly wildlife department to be able to manage our collection through such a scientific and sophisticated process.
As time goes on, some of our more unattractive older exhibits will be replaced, but please rest assured that wildlife contained within are well looked after and are not welfare affected by a less attractive exhibit.
Thank you so much for visiting and for giving me the opportunity to explain our animal welfare practices on this forum. More information can be found through the Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia.
I do hope you are able to visit the Nature Park again soon.
only Kina15 for non-residents and worth a visit for the selection of birds of paradise. sadly the snakes section was being renovated during our visit. friendly staff and very tropical setting
The Nature Park is a great place to spend some time even if you're just visiting Port Moresby for a short stay. Well run, great attractions and full of interesting information on the many animals in PNG

One of the few places in POM where you can relax and be in a peaceful environment. If you reside on POM, I highly suggest purchasing the annual membership to support the center and receive discounts.
