we found some good reviews about this guesthouse and due to the holiday season there weren't many options. Anyway, it seemed to be fine . Upon arrival we began to understand why this guesthouse still had rooms available while all others were booked solid! Mold in the bathrooms, broken shower faucet and the rooms weren't too clean. Onwards it wnet from bad to worse. Service was a big issue for these people. It wasn't possible to get clean towels every day. They tried to fool us by drying our used towels and hanging them up as if they had brought clean ones. Worst thing was when we had asked the cleaning lady for a towel. We left for the day and when two of my friends came back, the owner simply went crazy on them. Shouting, screaming and insulting them. Why? Because we took a towel! I'll save you the details on all other crappy sh.. they pulled on us but this is not the place to be!! We packed our baggs and left the same day!

Whether business or holiday, if you are looking for a clean place to stay with a friendly staff in a familiar atmosphere, Guesthouse Amice is your place to stay.
Although Amice is a Guesthouse and not a hotel, the reception desk is staffed 24/7 and they have snacks, refreshments, laundry service and bicycles available.
The place is far enough from the city center to be away from the noise caused by 24 hour activities there, and close enough to get to that center on foot (35mins), by bicycle (10mins) or by affordable taxi (from 10SRD / 2,10EUR). It is also far enough from city center to avoid the daily traffic jams when traveling out of town.
The rooms are kept very clean on a daily basis and are fitted with enough power outlets and TV/AC. Most have a balcony.
WIFI is available free of charge, very reliable service and good bandwidth.
Breakfast is presented in a buffet continental style with cereals and fresh fruits daily.
Want to do some reading in your room? You may find the (reading) light insufficient, although this may also be caused by the quality of my own eyes . . .

Amice Guesthouse is a safe bet if you want a clean, quiet, friendly accomodation in Paramaribo. Highly recommended. One must be aware, though, that it is not located in the heart of old town, that can be reached with a bike or a short taxi drive.

As everyone else has said, it's clean, comfortable, nicely decorated. Lots of windows that open to let in the breeze. Also AC and ceiling fans. Owners are great and all staff is friendly. I stayed here for a business trip - wifi was excellent. Pool is wonderful as are the sitting areas around the grounds. Beer, wine, bottled water, soda and juices available for a small fee. You can also get a sandwich and snacks. Bicycles are available for rent for a small fee. The owner, Jasodra can help with directions to everywhere and advised me about getting to the Pepperpot plantation/nature reserve by bicycle one Saturday. You can store leftovers in the guest refrigerator, but you're not supposed to bring in your own alcoholic beverages or eat in your rooms. As in most hotels and guesthouses in South or Central America, lighting in the room and bathroom was pretty dim. There were reading lamps but also very dim.

Taxis are about $10 Suranamese into town (the taxis that the guest house calls for you. Double that coming back if you get a taxi at a taxi stand in the street.

Several restaurants in the area within walking distance. Some more distant than others. Most are cafeteria style or take-out - better to bring the food back to the guest house to eat in most cases. A new small Italian place with pasta and panini and espresso just opened a few blocks away - Pane y Pasta. I recommend it.

I would stay here again.

Room Tip: The rooms with balconies that overlook the pool seem like the best choice. I had a room with a balcony that looks out on to the street - not that attractive and i could hear street noise.

This is the place to stay in when you're in Paramaribo! The owners are really nice - always smiling and doing everything to make you feel at home. What I like most about it is the informal feeling. You always start talking to people at breakfast and the owners often take part in the conversations which helps to create the informal and friendly atmosphere. Of course, if you want privacy noone will bother you. All the general things you want in a hotel is there - good breakfast, wifi, clean rooms and so on. Two things however that stand out are the balcony and the pool, both of which are nice places to relax after a sweaty day in Suriname. A negative thing could be that if you want to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle of downtown Paramaribo it's quite a walk. It's easily solved with a taxi but I always enjoyed the walk to and from the hotel. The hotel itself is in a very calm and safe area. I highly recommend Amice to anyone visiting the lovely city of Paramaribo!
