“A lovely little place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 26, 2013

I rarely stay in guesthouses, and this stay has shown me why I should change this habit. The property is charming; the owners friendly and helpful, it is spotlessly clean, the room is fine, with a/c that works, and all in all it is a fine place to stay.

It lies five minutes by taxi from the center of Paramaribo, and a good (and interesting) twenty-five minute walk. There are probably buses, but the system of bus recognition is beyond my two-day competence.

I would absolutely stay here again.

And, as a comparison, business had me in London last week, staying at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane. I think the Guesthouse Amice beats it on every count.

Room Tip: The additional EUR5 for a balcony is money well spent!

This is a guesthouse situated in Paramaribo, a little outside the city Centre. You can walk to the City Centre, but because of the hight temperatures you´ll be better off taking a cab. Rooms are not very spacious, but every inch is used to the max (with veranda). Beds are comfortable, the aircon really nice. We have had three different rooms (re-entry after multy expeditions). The rooms at the roadside can have a little noise from the street (facing the red cross building), but are cooler (north-side). The rooms at the pool-side have the best view but are situated at the suny side. I liked the room number 9 ?? the most (2nd floor in the corner at the roadside). It has more windows (light), cooler and best usable space. The hosts are very friendly and heartwarming. They are allways willing to help you and have a conversation. They have emplyees but still do lot of work by their own. They say it is nessesary to to do this so they can see what is going on to improve their service standards again and again. So you can say service is perfect. At the roadside there are tables and chairs to lounge outside. Inside at the lobby there is also a table and lounge chairs. There is a good size breakfast area. breakfast is very good, serving fresh dread, fruit, cheese and other things. This is a big plus. You can also order snacks like sateh and egg-rolls (Loempia). Try them, they taste very good. The swimming pool is a real treat with these temperatures. The water is clean. There are places (chairs) to sunbathe or relax at the pool. Look for the green iguana sometimes walking on the boundarywall. This is the place for me in Paramaribo.

Room Tip: Best room: 2nd floor, right corner (room number 9 ??)

In December, I stayed in this guesthouse with my cousin. What to say: great people, great location, great rooms and very good value for money! This is really the place from where you would like to explore Paramaribo.

Short Take: Clean facility. Helpful, friendly staff. Good breakfast.
Long Take: The place was very clean. Our room was clean. Great air-conditioner and fan. Pool and internet is nice bonus. The owners and staff were sincerely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great. A nice variety of fruits cheese meats and breads. We did not have a car but did fine by walking to some nearby restaurants and taking a bus to town. We also used a taxi to go to a couple of restaurants a bit further away.
The room cost us 50 euros per nite for the downstairs double without a veranda. I think at the time they said it was 45 euros per nite.
We would recommend any of our friends to stay here and we will certainly stay there again.

I stayed for 17 nights in Guesthouse Amici. In the last 10 years I slept in several locations / accomodations in Paramaribo, but I can declare that Amice was the best of them!.
The rooms are simple and not very big, but that's not a big deal when you use the room like i did: just to take a shower and sleep :-). My room had a BIG balcony with a ceiling, so when it's raining you can enjoy your balcony whitout becoming totally wet.... The airconditioning-unit was very, very silent. Furthermore there is a cosy breakfastroom when using breakfast. Breakfast has a good choice, with fresh fruit.
Guesthouse Amice is the farout the most CLEAN accomodation I had ever seen.
Definately, I should decide to stay in Guesthouse Amice again when I should make a next trip to Paramaribo !!

We enjoyed the wooden house, very comfortable. It is clean, net, well organized. Rooms are very well taken care of. Prefer those with balcony, where a table and two chairs for good relaxing times. Swimming pool is big enough, and very nice and clean.
Personnel is discrete, polite and smiling. Owners are very friendly, and eager to give information. Location of the guest house : a few minutes by car from the city center, but it is better to have a car.
On our previous trips to Paramaribo, we came to hotels, up to the highest level available. We had enjoyed "la Petite Maison", but Amice is the best choise for us.

We stayed here 10 days. Owners are very nice and helped us in every possible way. Room was always very clean. Coffee and tea on the room is very nice. Rooms are very quiet at night. the terrace of the room is ideal during a rainstorm. Breakfast is every day something else. If you want to be at home in Paramaribo just go to Amice. Much better than a hotel. Only one word for Amice, his owners and staff : PERFECT
Thanks for everything. Bart and Anneke - Belgium
