“Charming”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

As there's really not much to see in Paramaribo the Fort is a must see site. We didn't quite realize that it's closed on weekends and their opening hours are a bit starnge, but we finally got into it. Helps if you have an own transport. Something to see in the vicinity is the Old Market, but you have to be there early to see Surinames Ladies bargaining. Interesting to see Market stands where Ladies sell two eggs in a plastic bag. Interesting times are 0700 to 1000. In the Market is a halal butcher, if somebody needs to know.

“Poor opening hours”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2014

This fort seemed like a really nice fort with high walls. Luckily we got a tour guide to give us the details and history of the fort. The fort was closed and it was a Saturday. Apparently they are opened in the week and some other odd days.

“This part of Suriname is always interesting!”

I just liked how quiet the fort and its surrounding are in contrast to their history.I wished there were placards or pictures on site telling you some more about the war and the role the fort had during it.

“History”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

Fort Zeelandia is a nice place to visit, if you walk there its like if your 20 years back into time. The buildings are restored and the site is very quiet. Nice to walk and sit under the big trees.
The history of the place makes you realize that it has not always been a quiet and peaceful place..
I think a must see for anyone who likes culture, history and old buildings.

“Must visit when coming to Suriname”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 15, 2014

Rich history experience. The fort has a museum and several other former military buildings. Also houses one of the best restaurants in town "Bakafoto". Great pastas, fish dishes. Good ambiance and nice view along the river.
