“Decent hotel, good price”
Reviewed November 10, 2011

Decent hotel, quiet, clean, good service, is a 70's hotel, is in the center of the city, the price is modest, good for budget people, business, foreign inmigrants, only sleep, for transit and no for family with kids, if you are a Hilton hotel stay away,
the city is too small comparate with Buenos Aires, Lima or Santiago or Sau Paulo.
Asuncion has good hotels but not in the center these hotels are made in some huge single home is like a modern motel.
free internet in the lobby
there are free internet around but the signal is too low
local mobile phone are free

Room Tip: the AC is little quite but u can open the windows and door balcony

To be honest I cant be just fair about Chaco. I hv been there a number of times ever since my first trip to Asuncion, more than 25 years ago. Of course the hotel become old and some light refurbishing along such a longtime has not kept the old standards. Beside it is truth that more new and more modern hotel have been built....However Chaco is still the place to be for an old and rich "ganadero" willing to keep the typical paraguayan understatement. The price is reasonable and the staff is good. Of course in my case they know me since so long,.. but I keep my eyes open and they are kind with everybody and willing to help. It is possible to park the car one block away, and hotel is located in the real old center, at walking distance from some ministry and other public sector offices. The breakfast is quite correct and the restaurant serves good food reasonably priced. I keep going there sometimes although it is not anymore where I need to be as Asuncion vital center actually moved to Villa Morra.
Overall I would say it is fair value for the money as other better hotels in Asuncion would cost more or much more or ...three, four times more...or over..

Hotel Chaco has everything you need - clean bathrooms, warm rooms, and a pretty rooftop deck with a view of the city.

It's not luxurious - but the breakfast is satisfying, and I have no complaints about my stay here.

May very well have been the best hotel in town: once upon a time. With that pedigree, they feel there's tradition to uphold. Unfortunately, it's a too heavy load for the Chaco. Newer, better places have opened. But, if you want the old world feel, then go for it. A Papal delegation was lodged here. There's a lot of dark wood everywhere. Rooms have a slightly threadbare and dowdy feel, but are not uncomfortable. While bathroom fixtures are from another era, everything works and is maintained and is clean. View was of the rooftop across the street where people partied late. Location although a couple blocks too far from the center is safely walkable.

We feel like the Chaco Hotel is our beloved parent. It is nurturing, kind, and loving to its guests who need a little extra support after long, sweaty bus rides. It is a safe haven from the chaos that is often Asuncion (especially if you are navigating city buses all day). The staff is the best part of the experience. The second best part is the breakfast. And the third best is everything else. We love the Chaco.

We visited Asuncion out of curiosity as nobody we know had ever been there before. We picked up Chaco from Trip advisor.
Asuncion came as a pleasant surprise, so did the Chaco hotel: Very well kept property, clean and nice.
Rooms spacious enough with all the commodities the average traveller would expect.
Nice breakfast, very nice and fairly priced dining of very good quality. Staff very friendly, even though english is hardly spoken, however the friendliness makes up for it.
Nice small pool on top floor for sundowners (not on sale-you have to improvise).
An extra plus: The bide in the bathroom.

We stayed at The Chaco while visiting our son who is in the Peace Corps. They give the volunteers a great discounted rate so it is a favorite among them. Our son had told us that it was outdated. So, we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at our room. We were in room 603. Our son said it was a matrimonial suite, but it was just a basic double. All of the rooms have refrigerators stocked with water, wine, soft drinks, etc. The price for a bottle of water was about 75 cents. They also have ice trays in the small freezer. The volunteers usually make a trip to the store around the corner and purchase soft drinks and such to keep in the fridge.

There's a small pool on the roof. We didn't swim in it, but we did sit up there one evening and watch the sunset. You have the view of the Paraguay River as well as the view of the city.

We ate the free breakfast one morning and found it to be adequate. It is fruit, breads, ham, cheese, and fresh juices served buffet style. They bring you coffee and hot water for tea as well as eggs prepared as ordered.

The location was covenient to restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, and bus stops.

All and all I would say it was a decent value. We may have received a discount being tied with a volunteer because our room was $61 per night with taxes.

The staff was very courteous and friendly and appears to have a good rapport with the volunteers. I also left an outfit in the closet and expected that it was gone. I had a friend call two days after realizing I had not packed it and they had it for my son upon his return a week later. That was a surprise.

I would recomend this hotel to anyone who may be looking for a place to stay in Asuncion.
