“Thoughtful staff”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

My family and I stayed here while attending my father's funeral. I was most impressed with their acts of kindness and thoughtfulness. After the funeral, they brought sandwiches and drinks to our rooms without being asked and left us a sympathy card on our last night. We had an extremely early morning flight and provided us with sandwiches to take. All of the kitchen staff were very polite, helpful and accommodating. We ate at random times and they were very patient. The food is freshly prepared and delicious. The Sunday brunch was amazing, with delicious Guyanese staples. The lodge is in a quiet neighbourhood and we felt safe while staying there. But the most outstanding feature is the pleasantness and helpfulness of the staff. We will definitely stay there in the future.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days in January, and we were well pleased with our choice. The lodge is located in a relatively quiet neighbourhood, but only moments away from the botanical gardens, the seawall and number of fast food restaurants. The staff were all very pleasant and very helpful and made us feel very welcomed.

Had brunch there many times, always amazing the chef knows her stuff she cooks up a storm a lovely lady who even came out to see if all is well, this is the classiest place we went to for lunch in Guyana, a must try if you are in Georgetown, if we had known about it we would have stayed there instead of the B.
The owners a lovely family that hoovered around making sure everything was perfect, attention to detail which seems to be lacking in Guyana was definitely top of their list here.
A beautiful garden to look at whilst eating.

Stayed here for 3 nights, 25-27 October 2012 and regretted I did not book for my entire stay. This is a lovely old home with interesting rooms which are spacious and include small refrigertors. The staff make you feel special and part of their family. Simply delightful. Our room was #2 and was entered through a the most wonderful covered porch which has comfy seating, some dining tables and chairs, a computer (no charge for use) and a coffee/tea bar. Staff is on call 24 hours a day is the kitchen staff. Front desk clerks were eager to assist us and called our tour company for us and set up an in-person meeting between us and the tour guide prior to our trip! Staff also assisted in relocating us for the remainder of our stay as they could not accomodate.

BTW, the grounds are lovely as are the grounds across the side street which houses the Brazilian Embassy.

The remainder of our stay was in Brickdam at the SleepIn International which was fine but not a 5 star in terms of the cordiality and helpfullness of the staff.

The Herdmanston is not the cheapest ($110/night) but not the priciest either but in a place like Georgetown Guyana, cheap can mean an interesting assortment of unpleasantries including surly looking staff and no air conditioning even though you hear something running in your room that sounds like it should be an air contitioner (we stayed one night in a sub standard hotel before locating to the Sleep Inn International that this was the case). We frankly felt a bit unsafe so moved on.

Room Tip: We liked the room we had and in fact chose not to relocate to the larger room offered us that was in...

Visiting the beautiful Guyana, Land-of-the-many-Waters, together with my wife for one month, we enjoyed staying at the Herdmanston Lodge indeed. What a lovely, quiet and romantic place to relax and meet great and friendly people. The lodge is still in its original colonial stage, very cozy, exremely clean and ready for those seeking warmth, comfort and serenity. Apart from a quality local kitchen you will also have your own microwave, fridge, A/C and plasma-TV as well as private security. The staff spoils you everywhere, is so natural and friendly, you cannot imagine. They all make you feel like at home and are there for you for 24 hours/day. Our stay was just fantasic und unforgettable. We herewith thank the whole staff, especially Dee, Juanita, Tuana, Shannel, The various Sharon's, Edna, Malcolm, Mohan and all the others not mentioned who all made our stay so great. Do not forget that Queen Elisabeth II, Pierre Trudeau, Julius Nyerere and other heads of state and diplomats also stayed/stay at The Herdmanston Lodge.

Room Tip: All rooms are great. We occupied the only Apartment No.7 (huge kitchen, sitting room, enormous bathr...

Georgetown has a limited offering for places to stay. Herdmanston Lodge is well located, has spacious rooms, very helpful staff, exudes colonial history and is a good value for the price. It is a good choice. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Get a room on the second floor and enjoy the balcony.

Nice looking hotel and friendly people. However, I have the impression that they simply don't care. I ordered a cab with them for us to be picked up at the airport but they never showed up. Got my own cab in the middle of the night and when I informed them about it they acknowledged the fact and shrugged their shoulders. I never heard of it again. Their communal computer for internet use has a corrupted operating system or some other serious problems. Same story when I asked about it. They explained they didn't know about it but most of all they simply didn't seem to care about it. They are expensive enough to get some basic services properly organised but do not. I am staying clear of this place from now on!
