There are not a lot of hotels to choose from in Downtown Cayenne. This one fits the bill if you like them clean, central, reasonably priced. Rooms are not deluxe, but they are spacious, clean, and bright. The pool is available for a dip at any time of day or evening. The breakfast is excellent--lots of fresh fruit and french goodies.

Room Tip: Back building is quieter. Those facing street are noisier but livelier (there's a police station next door).

The location of this hotel couldn't be better, right in the center of Cayenne and next to the police station. It's very safe; all the gendarmes stay here. The staff are all very nice -- everyone from the front desk to the management to the cleaning staff is friendly and interesting. They're apologetic when something goes wrong.

That said, there are some very frustrating things about this hotel. First of all, if you plan on working from here via the wifi, know that the signal is very poor and goes out every few seconds to every few minutes, and sometimes never works at all. You have to login with these little codes on pieces of paper, and you're frequently logged out. The hotel staff tries to tell you this is a problem in all of Cayenne, but it's not. In the lobby, for instance, you can see the full bars of internet connection from the travel company next door (password required). If you're working, it's maddening. And some devices don't pick up the signal at all.

Also, the rooms vary wildly. The first night, we were put in one of the rooms overlooking Rue Charles de Gaulle. Ask for a room that is NOT on that side. Those rooms are tiny and old and extremely loud. We were moved finally to a room on the other side of the hotel overlooking the courtyard. For 10 euros more per night, these rooms are much bigger and have kitchenette-like-spaces. I say this instead of kitchenettes because it took five days of asking before we got the hot plate and other items it comes with. It turns out they were in a storage closet next door to our room the whole time, and communication was just breaking down.

Communication breaks down a lot here. This happens with the cleaning too. Some days your room isn't cleaned despite having the sign requesting cleaning. Some days your room is cleaned despite having the do not disturb sign. It's anyone's guess as to whether you'll get towels replaced, or all your towels taken away and not replaced, and whether you'll get toilet paper or not.

But if you need a safe place to stay, and can get in one of the larger rooms overlooking the courtyard on the non Charles de Gaulle side of the hotel, it's a good place. There's a tiny pool and places to sit outside by it.

If you want a cheap, clean hotel with better wifi but with smaller rooms and without the added extremely safe factor, Hotel Central is two blocks away and much cheaper.

Room Tip: Overlooking the courtyard and on the back side of the hotel. Not overlooking Rue Charles de Gaulle or in that building.

This hotel is convenient to the city center of Cayenne but is an average property. Staff are well intentioned but not necessarily well informed or able to help. English is clearly a second language for most of them. A better value than the Cayenne Novotel (twice the price). Rooms are clean but a bit Spartan. Large bathroom but no shower curtain. Breakfast buffet is overpriced. A small car park is available at no charge (if you can get in). Easy access to N1 Highway if going to Kourou and to the airport. Everything in French Guiana is expensive so this is probably a reasonable value for the price.

French Guiana has European prices so that means value for money is very hard to find. Whilst not exactly great the hotel is probably the best value for money in Cayenne - definitely much better than staying in the larger chain hotels.

Hotel amenities are clean, the rooms OK and the bathroom quite good but nothing really to make you say Vive le France about.

Hotel staff were pretty good but speak limited English (this is France after all)... and there is a reasonable travel agent next door. Swimming pool was a too cloudy to use one evening upon return to the hotel (due to a large group of kids peeing in the pool) but the hotel staff quickly dosed it up with chemicals and it was right the next morning.

Breakfast is not included in the price and dining and bar facilities are very overpriced. Go for a walk to the local boulangerie and cafe for meals instead.

No real parking out on the street to speak of and finding a park is difficult anyway because all the locals park out front to take advantage of the security offered by the Police Station just down the road. However, the hotel's offf street parking (accessed from the back) is a godsend. But make sure you get in there early as it's quite tight and there's only a dozen or so parking spots.

Room Tip: Secure off street parking very good but limited room so get in early

It's an ok hotel, but nothing special, and not worth a 100 euro. It's a bit old, bathroom was huge but couldn't use the bath tub :( For the wifi you had to login every 5 minutes, annoying. Staff was very friendly though.
