not impressive like Antigua or Cartagena..but a decent colonial town, with some alternative crowds. Nice little restaurants and interesting buildings

“great sites - watch for theft new swarm scam”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

Lots of great sites in this area and defineatly worth a few days with the museums etc. The gold museum is worth the visit alone. This was our second time here as we spend a day shopping before flying home. We are just finishing 3 months in Colombia and Ecuador and have had a fantastic trip with no safety issues or theft etc until our last day here. Even being aware of the potential for theft and being careful we found ourselves suddenly swarmed by a group of women, ( the main tourist street Carrera 7 and Calle 12 mid afternoon ) one spit on me and pointed up as to show a pigeon crapped on me while another one riffled into my pocket for my wallet. A few others were involved to box us in so no one could see and had us hemmed in briefly. This took three seconds and was well orchestrated. Thanks to the hotel staff at Casa Guadalupe for helping us out etc, the police were great but little they can do, even though the police are everywhere in that area these con artists still seem to have their way. Don't let it stop you from coming here, just be very aware of your surroundings at all times and carry minimal cash as we were.

“This is where it began...see Bogotá here first”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

My second trip to the Candelaria. The focus "seems" to be on the central plaza, large cathedral, government buildings...alpaca, vendors. Fun and lovely, but in the surrounding streets is where I found the history and charm. Go. It's a "trip"...
I've listed the local website...check it out on Wikipedia and YouTube, as well...

“Busy, Busy and Busy”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

Alot of fun for people watching. This is a very crowded town. THe streets were lined with people hustling all day long. Traffic was horrid and no parking available. But very interesting. Good area for photos of local historic buildings. Be prepared to walk alot. You will need comfortable shoes. Alot of uphill walking and the sidewalks and streets are full of pot holes. I felt very safe.
