I visited with a local friend who is knowledgeable about Senor Botero (I admittedly am not) and it was a great learning experience. The museum also has works by other artists. It's free to the public. Well worth a visit.

If you like Botero's work, you definitely need to visit this museum. It is totally free, the paintings and sculptures are one of a kind and so is the building.

Before our trip to Colombia I confess I’d never heard of Botero but I am so glad Travel the Unknown recommended this museum in their suggested itinerary. Botero is a skilled artist - study the way he draws hands. His enlarged figures show human frailty and apply it to men women horses birds FARC fighters and whoever.

There is a variety of paintings, sketches, bronzes displayed as well as some impressionist pieces from European masters.

Finally the building on two levels is set around a flowery courtyard. It’s just a very pleasant place to be. Allow a couple of hours. And thanks to Botero himself, it’s free.

Don't let the name fool you. While there is an extensive collection of Botero's work, there is so much more in terms of modern art including Picasso, Chagall, Pollack, etc. Free admission is a plus, as well as the beautiful internal Colonial-style plaza with trees and flowers. A definite must visit along with adjoining museums of Modern Art and Money.

This museum has a great collection of contemporary art from Portocarrero to Jackson Pollock and of course the highlight of the exposition is the biggest Botero collection. Is so full of colors and magic that sometimes you can find yourself smiling in front of painting for quite a long time, Botero embodies the sarcastic mockery to today's beauty canons by portraying women masculine enough, fat and sometimes ugly but managing to do all this with such a grace that will really make you feel beautiful and fantastic. Plus point is that the souvenirs shop is not that expensive.

The collection of Botero pieces is in the same complex as the numismatic museum and the Coleccion de Arte. The exhibit contains many fine examples of Botero's works. While his particular style of painting isn't a particular favorite of mine, he is important to Colombia. I'd have liked to have seen more sculptures. This is essentially an extension of the Coleccion de Arte (or that is an extension of the Botero collection) with an excellent variety of Colombian and European modern art pieces.

Wow. What a museum- a lovely collection given by Botero to the city bank on the condition that it would always be free and never be lent out.
And it’s super- lots of amazing artists including Picasso, Renoir and Giacometti- and a collection of his paintings and sculptures.
Tranquil, pretty and really well laid out.
If you only visit one museum in Bogota make it this one.
