I have stayed at several of the Viaggio properties, and have been uniformly happy with them. This one is larger and more hotel-like than others in this part of town. However, the rooms are still more like mini-apartments: bedroom (beds are super-comfortable), kitchen (including large fridge and mini-stove), living room, desk, bath. Units have wifi (ethernet is also available). My room was huge with a large window looking up the mountain - very pleasant. The street outside was quiet and I slept very well. My room had an easy to operate safe (instructions in Spanish and English), a wardrobe with hangers, and a flat screen tv.
The hotel itself is lively. Since it is just a few steps from the Universidad Javeriana, I suspect that many of the guests are visiting students - many were young and nearly all were Colombian during my week-long stay.
Breakfast was better than at other Viaggio properties where I've stayed since its dining space is a full service restaurant. Thus, in addition to the usual coffee, juices, cereal, yogurt, breads, fruits, and egg dishes, they also offered a hot item each day (sausages or other regional specialties). They also had a menu available for lunch and dinner. While I ate lunch there once and was not impressed by the food or the service, the restaurant was often full of people. It is definitely convenient to have it available.
The location of the hotel is convenient to the Parque Nacional (just a couple of blocks from the first rate public red clay tennis courts) and the Javeriana. The historic downtown or financial district are walkable (maybe twenty minutes each) or a quick and cheap taxi ride (probably $3 or so) away. The neighborhood is a pleasant residential area. The only inconvenient aspect is that it is at the top of a steep hill, which means that a walk down to Carrera 7a requires a somewhat taxing walk back up, even though it's really just a question of a couple of blocks.
Front desk staff was very helpful. I recall one guy named Richard who was especially friendly and efficient. They helped me figure out where to get a SIM card for my phone (at the mini-Exito market at the bottom of the hill on Carrera 7a - an UFF brand card cost only about $8 and lasted the whole week without needing further payment), printed my boarding passes, ordered me a reasonably price taxi to the airport (25,000 pesos) etc. Maid services were also friendly and efficient.
Viaggio properties have a modern boutique hotel styling and are reasonably priced. Since the rooms are more like apartments, they are ideal for those in Colombia on business or needing to work while traveling. While the Viaggio Parque 54 is much quieter, I think I prefer this larger property as it offers a broader and more hotel-like range of services.
