This ancient church has the most beautiful reredos in Bogota, and also a wonderful side chapel in honour of the Virgin, plus many other monuments. No wonder it is always full.

I really feel the church looks neglected. i was not impressed at all. I've seen nicer churches in South America.

Personally I don't understand the big fuss about iglesia de San Francisco, sure it's worth a quick visit before the gold museum but all it did was remind me of the disgusting opulence of the church. Surely the amount spent on the front altar alone could've been better spent?

I doubt you'll want to spent more than 10-15 minutes in here.

Free and open to the public, this working church is in the heart of the city. No flash photography and be respectful of this in prayer. The ornate front altar is lovely and particularly noteworthy.

The altar is a master piece of art, done in wood and treated with gold finished, just wonderful, recommend to visit on Sunday, as near by in the park across you can see all sort of vendors.
