Hostal Boutique Casa Violeta
Ranked #151 of 323 Bogota B&B and Inns
Reviewed December 30, 2013

We spent 5 nights here in December 2013. The welcome was warm and the staff extremely helpful - English is spoken. The hostel is very well located for Candelaria and the sites around the Plaza de Bolivar. But, despite the central location, there is no problem with noise as there are no nightclubs close. The TransMilenio terminal Les Aquas is a short walk, as is the cable-car/railway to Monserrate Peak. The hostel was very clean and the security impressive. Laundry was quick, effective and good value. The area around is safe, even after dark as there are a number of private security guards in the vicinity. The only complaint that I would make is that breakfast gets boring when you stay for more than 3 days. More variety is needed. But, this fault is minor when weighed against the overall value for money.

Room Tip: The Violeta has a shower en suite (with warm -not really hot - water) and a view of Montserrate. Rec...

Let's start here: We were a party of seven with a very low budget. We had around $500 (US DOLLARS), each one, for an eleven days backpacking trip. We went to different places in Colombia looking for places to spend the night that were cheap, clean and safe. Casa Violeta is a nice place to stay, feels like home, it's clean, has comfortable beds, it's charming, hot water, friendly personnel. It's true it does not have heater and the bed is a little cold, but I have been in other places is Latin America with cold weathers also and you will not find heaters anywhere. So anyone traveling to Colombia or Guatemala and staying in hostels should know that. We paid $12 each one and the price included breakfast, it's a bargain!!!!! We also requested laundry service and we paid like $10 or less for a huge pile of dirty and stinky clothes to get clean. It's located at very few minutes from Botero Museum, Cerro Monserrate and other wonderful attractions. You can find a taxi at any time and you can go everywhere you want from there in minutes. We rent a car and there are parking lots in the same street available (one 24 hours and other that close earlier), but everything is in you hands. In 11 days, I stayed twice at this place and the other nine nights at different places all over a route from Bogota to Medellin. This was one of my favorite place and was of the best places I stayed!!!!

The Hostel is placed in a quiet street in "La Candelaria" of Bogotá.
The crew is very nice and helpfull. Casa Violetta an experience, every room is unique. We had the suit, I could take a nap in the Hamock, my son could sleep upstairs, while I could hang out downstairs.
If I visit Bogotá again, Casa Violetta is my first choice.
Don`t forget to take a cocktail in the HostalBar..........

We stayed three nights in the hostel in the old town of Bogota. The hostel owner and the staff are young people, very friendly and helpful with questions about the city and traveling in Columbia. The house itself is just renovated by the owner (very stylish) and every room has its own name - we for instance stayed in "habitacion fucsia" ...and we enjoyed the warm shower(the only warm shower on the whole one month trip in Columbia!). If you are in the mood to play videogames or relax in the hammock you have the possibility there. The night (60 000 pesos for the doubleroom) includes a breakfast: cofe or hot chocolate (yummy!) with fried or scrambled eggs and bread! Highly recommended.

We were attracted by the great website of this place and the good reviews they have!
However we were highly disappointed.
Never have we experienced so unfriendly and rude staff.
The kitchen was so dirty that we could not use it. The water was freezingly cold, exactly the opposite of what they advertise. Same as the breakfast, since it depends on the mood of the staff if you get one or not!
We didn't feel welcomed at all and felt uncomfortable, also because there were "non-guests" linguering around in the common areas day and night!

There is no way we can recommend this hostel!

Unless there is absolutely no other accommodation available in bogota there is no reason anyone would choose to stay at Casa Violeta and here are some reasons why
1. It is dirty
2. The staff are rude, unhelpful and disinterested
3. The staff have there friends sleeping in the common areas and dorms which presents a security risk
4. Breakfast is not included on check out day or bank holiday
5. There is no coffee available at all
6. The bar is closed and dark and even on new years eve there was no beer available
7. The water is not hot ... It is cold
8. No 24 hour reception, you may wait outside ringing the door bell for up to 10 minutes

I hope this gives an overview of this highly rated but very under performing so called boutique hostel

Nice large rooms with a good location in La Candelaria. The only downside is the shared bathrooms and showers. Most hostels have showers that provide some privacy and an area where you can dress. Not so here. And the showers have electric hot water but the water does not get hot, not really warm, just not totally cold. Shared kitchen, breakfast included, free wi-fi.
