“Te best”

As a Starbucks lover, I couldn't leave Bogota without trying the famous Colombian cafe of Juan Valdez. And it was so good that I had it many times. Try the granizado de café with chocolate syrup, it's amazing! Completely worth stopping by! If you have the chance to try there or even in other countries they are, do it so!

“Tea Drinkers Not Welcomed”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2014

This is a chain of coffee shops a little like Starbuck's, with prices to match. This IS Colombia and the coffee is great but if you a looking for something else to drink, forget it. You will have to settle for a fruit smoothie. There are no soft drinks or tea.

“World class cafe's”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013

I'm in the coffee business; that's why I was in Colombia. These cafes are well run, and the staff knows what they are doing. The coffee is very good and the baristas make designs on the lattes just like in NY. Very well done.

“Beats Starbucks Any Day!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013

There are a number of Juan Valdez Coffee Shops in Bogota. I've tried 4 of them and all were excellent experiences with the best-tasting coffee I've had in the Western Hemisphere. The Shop on Calle 93, Carrera 13 (overlooking Parque 93) is a wonderful place to enjoy a great cup of coffee as well as watch the locals and tourists enjoy walking around the Parque which happens to be a full city block, surrounded on all four sides by an astonish number of bistro's, pubs, and restaurants of various types, with a similar ranging variety of prices. But, the coffee is why people come here and it is, indeed, tasty; the top quality never wavers, irrespective of which barista happens to prepare it. IMHO it is double the flavorful taste of Starbucks, but at less than 1/2 the price. Pastries are fresh, tempting, and delicious - a perfect companion to the best cup of coffee you'll ever enjoy. Service is fast, friendly, and even warm....always with a smile.

“Best coffee in the americas so far (and a few locations)...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2013

I have been travelling through the Americas for 8 months now starting in Miami, working my way around the US coasts before heading south through Central and South America. I am yet to get as far as Chile, Argentina and Brazil but I have to say that Juan Valdez has been the coffee highlight for me thus far.

Not only is the coffee superb, but the setting is also very relaxed in the style, that I confess, Starbucks do quite well (at least in their prime locations). They provide real fresh cinnamon (not the cheaper alternative that we are unaware is provided elsewhere in most cases) as well as actual cacao (rich, bitter cacao...lovely) to sprinkle on top. Admittedly, its a minor point, but its often the little things that count.

I also have a soft spot for the brownies that they serve here...tell them to give it a little extra time to heat up and the rich center begins to melt, its delicious.

So far as locations (should good coffee be of upmost importance to you), in Bogota, I visited one in Chapinero (round the corner from the Hilton), one in the historic center and one on one of the corner of Parque de la 93. In Medellin, there is a nice relaxed cafe on one of the greens in Poblado (round the corner from Happy Buddha hostel where I stayed). I was also happy to discover a small outdoor Juan Valdez in Larcomar (modern shopping mall on the coast) in the Miraflores district of Lima as well as by the Metro supermarket in the Colorado district in north Arequipa.

Yes, its Starbucks prices in there, but damn, is it great coffee.
